Senior Tommy Schelling of the Lehigh men's lacrosse team was recognized late last week as a Senior CLASS Award first team All-American.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character, and competition. Leggett was also a finalist and first team All-American last season, while Craig Chick was in 2019 (there were no finalists announced in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Even as he regularly featured for one of the winningest-programs in the last decade, Moore maintained his commitment to his studies. Moore was named a team captain for his last season with Virginia and continued to do what has made him one of the most successful players in the country. He finished tenth in country in total points (67) and became just the fifth Cavalier in program history to reach the 100 goals and 100 assists marks. Moore’s incredible season saw him finish second all-time among Cavalier freshman in goals and points (34), and he was aptly named the ACC Freshman of the Year and to the All-ACC Tournament Team. Leading Virginia to 17-3, Moore helped the Cavaliers reach the sport’s pinnacle as they were crowned NCAA Champions. He contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Moore was also honored as an All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament Team selection, as well as a USILA All-America honorable mention, after winning the ACC Tournament with the Cavaliers. The award, chosen by a vote of Division I men’s lacrosse coaches, national lacrosse media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior or graduate-level student-athlete in Division I men’s lacrosse.

Due to this, teams across the country saw the “value” in these Black players. Not because it was the right thing to do, but because it was the most profitable. NCAA teams across the country began to integrate. When a coach (Saban) who makes $9.5 million annually can argue in a public square about pay and who has the right to recruit the best “bucks” who should be paid nothing, it’s a form. People and/or “bucks” who are at the bottom are only valued by how successful and rich they make the top. The fact that Saban is questioning why a top “buck” recruit wouldn’t just flock to him, have the audacity to choose an HBCU, argue about not compensating them for their services and worry about losing power should cause many to reflect.

Middlebury catcher John Collins (New York, N.Y.) of the Panther baseball team has been selected as a Fourth-Team All-American by D3baseball.com.

Herrera is the only Centenary player in the division III era (2012-present) to win both the conference Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year awards in the same season. Centenary claimed the SCAC title on May 8 in Cleburne, Texas with a 10-5 victory over nationally-ranked Trinity. Ten Diamond Gents earned All-SCAC honors this past season and seven were named to the 2022 SCAC Championship all-tournament team. He was named both Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year on the 2022 D3baseball.com West All-Region Team announced on Tuesday and also earned First Team distinction as a starting pitcher. He finished in the top 10 in the country in ERA (1.59) and went 7-1 with two complete games. Herrera becomes the first Centenary player to be named an All-American since 2017 and just the seventh in program history.
