But perhaps this is for the better – the original certainly doesn’t fit the modern design aesthetic nearly as much as it fit the aesthetic of its time. The power comes from a 100kWh battery good for “more than 300 miles” of range, and it will have a top speed of 155mph – not quite fast enough to send you back in time twice over. In the movie, the fictional time machine was “ electrical” – what better way to make use of 1.21 gigawatts of onboard nuclear power. And, in case you’re looking to time travel, 0-88 will take you 4.35 seconds, according to the manufacturer’s estimates. The new company acquired the old company’s logo and parts inventory and has mostly worked as a service and restoration company for old DeLorean cars since then. The original DeLorean came out in 1981, and about 9,000 cars were made.

DeLorean is back from the future with a luxury electric vehicle (Interesting Engineering)

DeLorean Motor Company is coming back with a luxury electric vehicle that has the performance to match Porsche Taycans.

Autocar also reported that the vehicle will be sold in limited quantities. There were rumors that the iconic DeLorean DMC-12’s new model would be released as an electric vehicle. The new DeLorean Motor Company was founded in 1995 by British engineer Stephen Wynne, who acquired the old company’s logo and parts inventory.

DeLorean Motor Company has revealed the first full look at the Alpha5 — and this sucker is electric. "There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future...I think we did both with the Alpha5." Early access subscribers received the first look on Monday, one day before DeLorean Motor Company's redesigned website goes public worldwide.

While the Alpha 5 does hint at its heritage to its gas-powered predecessor with gull-winged doors and a sloped design, it trades an angular look for smoother curves and four seats instead of two. DeLorean plans on showing off the Alpha 5 to the public on its website tomorrow morning, but you can sign up to get a sneak peek at its images and specs right now. An unrelated Texas-based company, which supplies replacement parts to the owners of vintage DeLorean vehicles, snapped up the rights to the DeLorean brand and teased an all-electric revival in April.

DeLorean Alpha V electric car arrives in 2024 — here's your first look (Tom's Guide)

The DeLorean Alpha V is the all-electric reimagining of the classic sports car.

The downside here is that the car will only be sold in limited quantities. They won’t all be electric, with de Vries confirming that a V8-powered sports-coupé is next on the agenda. The driver will also be able to take advantage of two separate displays — one behind the wheel, and another attached to the center console. That's where the similarities end, however, because the DeLorean Alpha V is very much a modern coupé. That’s not Tesla-beating performance, but that still makes the Alpha V a pretty speedy car. After quite a bit of teasing, the DeLorean electric car has finally been unveiled.

As for performance, the Alpha5 "base performance model"—this suggests more potent models are in the pipeline—packs a 100+kWh battery powering "multiple electric motors." At this moment that is pure speculation, though. The wheelbase is also generous for a coupe, measuring 90.5 inches (2,300 mm). Elsewhere, the multi-spoke aerodynamic wheels and chunky rear diffuser will certainly not go unnoticed either. The DeLorean is back as an all-electric 2+2 grand tourer with striking looks signed by Italdesign and exhilarating performance. Its massive gullwing doors are arguably the main highlight and the reason they are so big is to allow access to the rear seats.

DeLorean EV: Stunning design for new electric car revealed (Belfast Telegraph)

After 40 years in the motoring wilderness, the DeLorean Motor Company has finally revealed a stunning new design for a new electric vehicle.

The resurrection of the DeLorean Motor company first began in the late 1990s, when the English mechanic Stephen Wynne bought over the name and opened a DeLorean showroom and restoration facility in Texas. While the present day Delorean Motor Company only shares the name of the company founder, the design was created by ItalDesign who also created the original look of the DMC 12. The specifications also show the car will have a 100kWh battery that is estimated to allow over 300 miles of travel on a single charge, and 0-60mph in 2.99 seconds. Keen to capture the futuristic feeling of the original, the DeLorean EV will have two electronically powered gullwing doors that allow access to the front and back seating. It’s a bold step to bring back a car that has remained one of the most iconic yet mocked cars in the motoring industry and pop culture. When Doc Brown sent the original DeLorean back to the future with a bolt of lightning, little did he realise that its successor would also be powered by pure electricity.

DeLorean Previews Electric Sports Car, Plans 3 New Models (CleanTechnica)

The DeLorean Motor Company will unveil its new battery-electric gull wing sports car at Pebble Beach this fall.

Joost DeVries will need some pretty powerful mojo to ward off the ongoing consequences of John Z. DeLorean’s reckless decision to disturb the ancestral home of the fairies in Northern Ireland more than 40 years ago. But when it came time to stake out the site for the factory, John Z. himself selected the location. In order to build where DeLorean wanted it, it was necessary to uproot a whitethorn tree. The SUV will take its power from a hydrogen powertrain because DeLorean is “not convinced that batteries are the end goal.” Whether this will take the form of a fuel cell electric system or a combustion engine remains to be seen, Autocar says, but de Vries is firm in his belief that “there’s no one road to Rome” when it comes to phasing out fossil fuels. DeVries may have the best of intentions but that may not be enough. After that, production of cars for sale to the public will begin, probably in late 2024. That’s where things stood until 1995, when Stephen Wynne of the UK acquired the rights to the defunct company and started a business supplying replacement parts for DeLorean owners. Joost DeVries talks a good game and he is serious about reinventing DeLorean as a company that makes thoroughly modern cars, but the history of automobiles is littered with good companies that failed. The SUV will be sized to compete with such full size luxury SUVs as the BMW X7 and the Cadillac Escalade while retaining stylistic links to the halo car. DeVries promises it will have performance similar to a Porsche Taycan. Without providing any details, he says the car will have a 0 to 60 time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph. In 1973, he left General Motors to found DMC, the DeLorean Motor Company, which took almost a decade to bring its first car to market. The DeLorean would be just another footnote in the history of the automobile were it not for the movie Back To The Future, which turned it into pop culture icon.

The company estimates that the base performance model will run 0-60 mph in 2.99 seconds and reach the time-travel target of 88 mph in 4.35 seconds. The company claims it is highly aerodynamic, which can help with range and noise. The silhouette is sleek, with interesting sculpting on the fenders and hood. It is curious that the design for this new car bears no resemblance to the original. A true international car, it was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign fame, with engineering by Lotus Cars, and a 2.8-liter V6 from the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo consortium. This is a high-performance four-seater, with gullwing doors and a claimed 0-88 mph in 4.35 seconds.

DeLorean Shows Off New Electric Car With Iconic Gull-Wing Doors (Futurism)

DeLorean Motor Company has teased a brand new all-electric take on the iconic 80s sportscar from "Back to the Future" called Alpha 5.

The company is hoping to begin deliveries some time in 2024, so you'll have to be patient — unless, of course, the company opts to travel back in time to visit us in the summer of 2022. As expected, the Alpha 5 will feature two gull-wing doors that open out and upwards, just like the 1982 car that took the Marty McFly and Emmett "Doc" Brown for a variety of time travel adventures in the "Back to the Future" movies. The company — technically a new Texas outfit that bought the rights to the DeLorean intellectual property after the original company went defunct in 1982 — gave us the first glimpses of its Alpha 5 vehicle in a series of images this week — and, at least at this development stage, it looks like an absolute beauty.

DeLorean officially unveiled the Alpha5 on Tuesday, May 31. San Antonio approved a $562,500 incentive package in April, followed by a 10-year 100% tax abatement from Bexar County, worth an estimated value of $512,828, that same month. The new vehicle is a sleek reimagining of the 1981 stainless steel DMC DeLorean with the iconic gull-wing doors, except this new iteration opens up to four seats instead of two.

DeLorean Alpha5 EV Revealed with Gull-Wing Doors and 300-Mile ... (Review Geek)

After several months of teasing a new electric vehicle, the DeLorean Motor Company has officially unveiled its first EV, the DeLorean Alpha5.

That said, DeLorean will fully unveil the Alpha5 in Pebble Beach later this summer, and it’ll be available to see in person from August 21st at the Concours d’Elegance event. It’s worth noting that DMC is using the popular Porsche Taycan as a benchmark for many of its specs, suggesting the Alpha5 will surely be plenty fast and have a lot to offer. Obviously, the new DeLorean Alpha5 EV looks great and goes fast, but what about the rest of the specs?

The luxury car has a less angular body than its 1980s-era predecessor that was made famous in the “Back to the Future” films.

The company also calls itself “a new energy mobility brand.” DeLorean is looking at also producing an electric SUV after the coupe hits the market. Along with sharing images, DeLorean this week added more information to its previously barren website. The interior images show two large screens on the dashboard and infotainment console. DeLorean hasn’t shared more traditional vehicle specs such as horsepower and weight. The Alpha5 features two doors and four passenger seats.
