He ends the season trying to advocate for that rule to change. After keeping it a secret for a while, Owen told Teddy about his plans and actions. Cormac was furious at Owen for telling him about his involvement in an illegal medical procedure. He also broke up with Nico (Alex Landi). Owen was fully accepting of however Leo identified but Teddy was more concerned about how their family and friends would react. Owen promised to distribute the same medicine to others in this position at Noah's request, even in situations when physician-assisted suicide would not be legal. After that, she asked him to move out. But Meredith made a bad surgical call, Grey-Sloan lost more surgeons, and the hospital experienced a dire blood shortage. Though her marriage to Winston was strained by the arrival of his brother, the two appeared to have made up by the end of the season. (Right on cue, moments later "Chasing Cars" plays in the background; the song has become synonymous with death and goodbye on Grey's.) Having decided to perform a risky procedure against Richard Webber's (James Pickens Jr.) wishes and the patient subsequently dying, her actions leave a bad taste in the mouth of a member of the Medical Accreditation Council. The May 27 'Grey's Anatomy' finale featured plenty of callbacks to past moments — including a memorable Season 6 episode.
On a show that’s known for its Easter eggs — even Ellen Pompeo herself was on the hunt this season — and an episode that was particularly full of throwback references, this tiny little line might have been a subtle nod to the Japril journey. As it turns out, “I Saw What I Saw” is actually the name of a previous Grey’s episode — Season 6, Episode 6, to be exact. To jog your memory, “I Saw What I Saw” was the whodunit in which none of the surgeons were willing to acknowledge their culpability in a patient’s death.
Grey's Anatomy season 18's finale was full of twists and turns, shocking revelations, and emotional stories. Here's every question about it answered.
It all proves that Meredith Grey is still central in Grey’s Anatomy and will finally be the sun in Grey’s Anatomy season 19. The Grey’s Anatomy season 18 ending left the story open to the possibility that, while the show might end with Meredith leaving Seattle, it could also end with Meredith accepting her complicated history with Grey Sloan Memorial and permanently becoming its Chief of Surgery. The setup makes Grey’s Anatomy season 19 the perfect one to see former characters return to save the hospital and the best possible way to close out the storied series. As a result of Owen’s actions, Grey’s Anatomy season 19 might see him and Teddy standing trial. In a twist justified by everything that happened at Grey Sloan, Grey’s Anatomy season 18 ended with Bailey (Chandra Wilson) resigning as chief to Jackson (Jesse Williams) and handing her office’s keys over to Meredith. While Meredith’s decision to leave didn’t formally change from what could be seen, she did go to Bailey’s office to reflect on Jackson’s offer, and she begrudgingly accepted that she’d have a lot of work to do to save Grey's Anatomy's hospital. Grey’s Anatomy season 18’s main threat to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was its residency program being shut down, but that wasn’t the only development reaching a turning point in Grey’s Anatomy season 18's finale. Here’s every question of the Grey’s Anatomy season 18 finale answered.
Meredith was blamed for Grey Sloan struggling throughout 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18. This is is why fans are defending her.
The program was put on probation and Miranda Bailey ( Chandra Wilson) went to great lengths to improve things. A huge question fans probably have after the finale is if they’ll see Bailey next season. She gave Meredith the keys to her office as Chief of Surgery. Meredith reluctantly takes the job despite having a better job offer in Minnesota. There is good reason to believe they will see Bailey in some capacity. Meredith Grey ( Ellen Pompeo) was accused of not being dedicated enough to Grey Sloan. This is why fans are feeling bad for her after watching the finale. But season 18 showed Richard Webber ( James Pickens Jr.) trying to change it, which resulted in the death of a patient.

Amelia was reeling the whole episode over her breakup with Kai, and it turns out Kai was reeling as well. Nick suggested she may have made the wrong decisions based on her complicated feelings about leaving Seattle, and Meredith did not take kindly to that. Did the risk of losing him force her to push past her demons? Her visions of her mother’s abusive words and trying to save Derek the day he got shot indicated that her trauma will always keep her bound to Grey Sloan Memorial. She quit the hospital with no notice, handing Meredith the keys to her office on the way out and telling her, “You broke it, you bought it.” But wait, wasn’t Meredith moving to Minnesota? She and Richard decided to celebrate the news by taking a sabbatical to see the Great Pyramids — interesting timing, as the hospital faced its biggest challenge yet with the shutdown of its residency program.
