KNOWING how to get rid of poison hemlock is crucial if you have this pesky plant growing in your garden as it 'can be fatal' according to gardening experts.

Apply it to poison hemlock before it starts to bolt. Giant hogweed tends to grow even higher – up to around 16.5ft (5m). These appear in the plant's second year of growth. So, be careful not to get it on any of your other plants or lawn, as it can damage them, too. But don't be deceived by its delicate appearance – poison hemlock is infamous for its toxicity. With its pretty white blooms, it is commonly mistaken for cow parsley.

The photo below shows the "flowers" of Poison hemlock. Obviously, I'd recommend against smelling poison hemlock up close, because of what happened to Chavana's daughter. According to Iowa State University Extension, Poison hemlock "contains the toxin coniine which disrupts the central nervous system... Using the "PictureThis" app, which says it can "identify plants with 98% accuracy," they determined the culprit. Her parents took her to the doctor and she was treated for poisoning with prednisone. Early this week a young girl who lives just over the Mississippi River from southeast Iowa, had a terrible reaction to a wild plant.
