Is Instagram Down? Login Issues Reported by Users. (Snopes.com)

Instagram users reported on Twitter and the Down Director website that they were unable to access the service.

This appears to be nothing more than a way of compromising an account. Is Meta, Instagram’s parent company, to ask about the apparent outage. This story will be updated if we receive further details.

Instagram is down (The Verge)

Instagram is having an outage, as many users report messages saying they aren't logged in or feeds that won't load all of their pictures.

The network disruption trackers at Netblocks have noticed Instagram’s “intermittent” issues are happening internationally, but there doesn’t appear to be any wide-scale blocking going on anywhere. The outage doesn’t appear to be tied to any specific area, and other services are still working. In response to inquiry from The Verge, Instagram communications lead Seine Kim said, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Instagram users began reporting many feed issues on May 26, when posts reportedly wouldn't load. Here's what to know about Instagram going down and if it's ...

If it’s not, you might want to try updating the app, logging out and logging back in, or even deleting and re-downloading the app altogether. As of 2:41 p.m. ET, there was no post about the reported issues on the Instagram Comms Twitter account, aka where the company usually addresses app performance issues, so perhaps it wasn’t as widespread as Twitter would make you believe, although the reported issues still hovered at around 2,500 at 2:26 p.m. ET. As of 2:11 p.m. ET, Down Detector’s number of reported issues has decreased to 2,878. As of about 1 p.m. ET, there were a range of different issues plaguing the platform — some people were experiencing a glitch that shows you old posts from weeks ago, while others had trouble scrolling through more than a few posts. Many people (including myself) are seeing posts they already saw and engaged with when they were originally posted. Some users have even reported not seeing feeds at all or being logged out of their account and haven’t been able to get back in, making them think they’ve been hacked.

Thursday afternoon, users noticed that the posts they're seeing on the home feed were all actually posted a few weeks ago, while Stories are still updated normally. An Instagram spokesperson told Mashable that they're aware that some users are having trouble, and are working to get things back to normal. People reported Instagram outages on Down Detector, too, starting at around noon eastern and peaking at around 12:30. Since then, users reporting the outage on Down Detector slowly began decreasing in frequency and, at 3:20 p.m. ET, Instagram is already retuning back to normal for some users.
