If he can find what’s funny about the absurdity of the situation, he can distance himself from the danger of it.” Gosling stars as “Sierra Six,” a top CIA mercenary who keeps his identity secret due to the sensitive missions he works on. Ryan Gosling has been absent from cinemas since he starred in 2018’s “First Man,” but that’s about to change in a big way.

From the Russo Brothers and Netflix, 'The Gray Man' is set to hit theaters on July 15.

The spy thriller is one of Netflix’s most expensive films ever, with a budget that came in at a whopping $200 million. The Netflix movie premieres in theaters on July 15 before heading to the streamer a week later. Based on the Mark Greaney book series, Gosling plays CIA operative Court Gentry, who inadvertently spills secrets about his organization, forcing him to go on the run from Evans’ mustached Lloyd Hansen, an unhinged former colleague.

Netflix has released a full trailer for upcoming action movie The Gray Man, and it wisely plays right into its strengths. No, we're not talking about ...

Then, you spend two minutes watching Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans trying to kill each other, with some pop-ups from Ana de Armas and Billy Bob Thornton, and then the trailer pulls out the INTENSE MUSIC AS WE LIST EVERY FAMOUS PERSON IN THE MOVIE trick. Now, none of this is a complaint, because god damn that’s a good list of names and those Russo brothers Marvel movies are the best ones, we just feel like pointing out that “this is the plot” doesn’t need to be the focal point of every movie trailer. Like, the movie is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers behind Avengers: Endgame, so this trailer could just say that.

No, 'The Gray Man' is not the one we just wrote up in the 'Thor' trailer post. It's a Netflix movie about assassins fighting each other.

But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. “‘The Gray Man’ is CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), a.k.a., Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. So, Netflix isn’t having the greatest time right now: Between losing subscribers in their last quarterly earnings reports (and the layoffs that ensued), having one of their biggest and most controversial talents attacked on stage at a comedy festival they were running, and tie-in merchandising spoiling one of their biggest cash cows only a week before they release its new season, it’s safe to say that 2022 could have gone better.

The Gray Man’s main selling point is its ensemble. If, like Red Notice, it breaks a viewership record, it may justify The Gray Man’s costly production and make a sequel worth the time and money. Joining the fun are Ana de Armas (“Knives Out”), Regé-Jean Page (“Bridgerton”), Jessica Henwick (“The Matrix: Resurrections”), Billy Bob Thornton (“Sling Blade”) and Indian actor Dhanush making his Hollywood debut. Leading the charge is a psychopathic former colleague named Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans). So unhinged, he sports a creepy mustache and botches commonly used phrases. If the two-minute clip is any indication, the film looks to be full of thrilling action sequences, intense fight scenes, intriguing spy games and funny one-liners.

The Gray Man's first trailer pits an evil Chris Evans against Ryan ... (The Verge)

Netflix's The Gray Man from The Russo Bros — in theaters July 15th — will put Ryan Gosling on the run as Chris Evans leads a worldwide manhunt for him.

That being said, Hansen isn’t the only professional killer hunting for Gentry, and being in a constant state of motion is seemingly going to be the key to his survival. The Gray Man’s first trailer introduces you to Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling) as he fights to stay alive with one of the world’s largest bounties looming over his head and a mustachioed psychopath hot on his heels. Gentry’s able to hold his own against Hansen to a point, but his survival seems to hinge on the support people like Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) are willing to give him.
