“We kind of lost our structure a bit and kind of having our numbers where we need them in order to generate some offense. “I think there was a little bit of a momentum swing there,” O’Connor said about the Blues changing goaltenders. Nathan MacKinnon assisted on the goal to give him points in seven straight postseason games. “Of course it was a good answer from the last game,” Lehkonen said. “I was just kind of sitting behind him and just tried to poke it with my stick. I think their defenseman kind of collided with me and pushed me into him.

Blues goalie Jordan Binnington out for the series against Avalanche (The Denver Post)

Blues coach Craig Berube on Sunday said goalie Jordan Binnington will miss the rest of the series against the Avalanche with a lower-body injury — believed ...

He played in five NHL games for the Blues, going 5-0 with a 1.22 GAA and .958 SP. “That D (Rosen) and Naz are both going for a loose puck sitting at the top of the crease, skating in there, downhill, as hard as they can go and both guys go in there. They’re both going after the puck the same way and they collide before they go in.” Binnington was injured 6:45 into the game after Avs center Nazem Kadri and Blues defenseman Calle Rosen collided with him. It’s a loose puck. It’s unfortunate but it is what it is,” Bednar said.

Injured Blues goalie Jordan Binnington is out for the rest of the Colorado series, coach Craig Berube said Sunday. “Yeah, it is (a blow),” Berube said.

With the Blues during the regular season, he was even better, with a 5-0-0 record, 1.22 goals-against, and a .958 save percentage. There is no goalie who has played better than Binnington in the series. Berube said Binnington would not need surgery.

Avalanche Relying On Defensive Depth With Loss of Girard (BlueJackets.com)

Next man up. With the indefinite loss of Samuel Giard following Game 3, the Colorado Avalanche will have to rely on their extensive lineup depth as they ...

But they're not letting themselves get too far ahead and are focused on the task at hand - and expecting a push from the Blues - in a pivotal Game 4. And while this loss comes at the most important time of the year, the team has confidence in their abilities to raise their own levels and that of their extensive depth as they did so in Game 3. They did so playing virtually the entirety of the game with just five defenseman; as Toews logged a whopping 30:56 minutes and Cale Makar skated 28:49 minutes. While Girard's absence is unfortunate, the circumstance of losing a regular is a familiar one for the Avalanche. During the regular season, the team utilized their depth and "next man up" mentality all season long as injuries continuously plagued them. They have to put in the extra work because obviously on a game night everyone else is getting an extra three hours of hard work." The loss of Girard vacates a substantial role on Colorado's blueline where the left shot was consistently paired with Josh Manson, averaged 17:59 minutes in the postseason and anchored one of the Avalanche's power play units.

Who should replace Sam Girard in Avalanche lineup? (+) (Colorado Hockey Now)

Sam Girard is out for the rest of the playoffs, so the question is: who should replace him in Colorado Avalanche lineup?

He played 74 games for the Avs in the regular season and he played very well. The Avs, uh, might need some of that element in Game 4, with this entire city up in arms over Jordan Binnington being lost for the series to a knee injury after a collision that involved Public Enemy No. 1 here, Nazem Kadri. ST. LOUIS – I’m already on record saying I believe Jack Johnson should get the job of filling in for the injured Sam Girard, who will be out the rest of the playoffs with a broken sternum.

Makar finds his way in Western Second Round for Avalanche ... (NHL.com)

That wasn't the case during the opening two games of the Western Conference Second Round when the 23-year-old defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche found ...

The Avalanche deserve a lot of credit too, because they put him in a position to succeed." "He's got his head and he's got his hands," Kadri said. "I think my overall game in terms of evening it out around the ice has improved," Makar said. It wasn't just straight-ahead speed but being able to create time and space in small areas ... he did that exceptionally well. But sometimes you just don't have that jump in your legs and you got to find a way to get it back." That's what we've come to expect from Cale. It's a deep desire to win and help our team win and to be the best you can be." "He understands how big of a role he plays and comes out and, in Game 3, has a great night. "He's more physical than what people give him credit for and he's dialed into our structure." Makar appeared to be floating on the ice at times, dazzling with the puck and setting up teammates for offensive success throughout. He's such a mature kid for his age and it doesn't matter if he's feeling it or not, he's going to get the job done. Makar had no points and was minus-2 while averaging 26:33 of ice time against the St. Louis Blues in a best-of-7 series that was 1-1. He did, like great players do, in Game 3 with one assist, three blocked shots, nine shot attempts and a plus-2 rating in 28:49 of ice time.

Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington will miss at least the rest of the series against the Avalanche after suffering a knee injury in Game 3.

He paused for a moment and then continued, eventually telling the broadcast that Binnington may have thrown a water bottle at him. The Avalanche hold a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 on Monday night in St. Louis. In his postgame news conference, Kadri didn't back off that insinuation. "I just see a loose puck, really. Had that not been the case, I don't think I would have hit him at all," he said. "Look at Kadri's reputation.

About his inadvertent collision w Binnington. Naz has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in. 3 Takeaways From Blues' 5-2 Loss to Avalanche in Game 3 (The Hockey Writers)

The St. Louis Blues lost Game 3 on home ice 5-2 to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche will now carry a 2-1 series lead going into Game 4.

I started with FanSided as a Baseball Contributor. Now I am writing about the NHL and the St. Louis Blues for The Hockey Writers. I grew up in Central Illinois as a huge fan of every sport. The Blues must come out fast and be ready to play a lot better in front of whoever their goaltender is. The series was an uphill battle for the Blues before it started, but now with the Binnington injury and series deficit, it becomes even more difficult. The Avalanche played nearly the entire game with only five defensemen, and the Blues could not take advantage of that. Binnington has been somewhat of a savior for the Blues in the playoffs, with a .948 save percentage (SV%) and a record of 4-1. It was less than seven minutes into the game when he left, and he had made three saves with a 1-0 lead.

Multiple NHL sources told ESPN on Sunday that the league would not fine nor suspend Binnington over the incident. "The guy is on record for calling another player a 'monkey' but he's talking about reputation." The situation with Binnington took an odd turn after the game. Aliu told ESPN that Kadri felt unsafe at the Avalanche's team hotel in St. Louis, partially due to social media threats. Aliu and Kadri are founding members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, an organization of current and former hockey players of color that is seeking to eradicate racism from the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety determined there was no supplemental discipline necessary for him.
