MLB Odds: Dodgers-Phillies prediction, odds and pick - 5/21/2022 (ClutchPoints)

The Los Angeles Dodgers will attempt to replicate last night's success as they face off with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies will cover the spread if Nola can give them a strong start and give them the best chance to win. Philadelphia also will cover if they can get to the Los Angeles pitching early and establish a pattern. There is not much value in taking the Phillies with the under. Alternatively, there is plenty of value in the Phillies winning straight. Bryce Harper powers the Phillies with nine home runs and 27 RBIs. Also, Nick Castellanos has five home runs and 21 RBIs, while Kyle Schwarber has slugged nine home runs and 21 RBIs. However, Harper has not played since receiving an injection in his throwing elbow on Sunday. The Phillies have to fill the void felt by Harper’s absence. The Dodgers will cover the spread if they can get another good performance from its pitchers. Nola has support from a loaded offense that continues to take the baseball. He struck out eight batters and walked two in the game but ultimately came away with the no-decision. Freeman, Lux, Betts, and Cody Bellinger must come through to help the Dodgers in the clutch. Additionally, the Dodgers have struggled against the Phillies’ hitters this season, including last weekend, when they allowed 33 runs over four games. They already led 1-0 entering the second inning when Freddie Freeman clipped a single to right that scored Gavin Lux and Mookie Betts. It gave them a 3-0 lead and command of the game. Los Angeles will have a bullpen game on Saturday. Mitch White will officially start, his first in 2022.

Dodgers Vs. Phillies Game Preview: Bryce Harper Returns (DodgerBlue.com)

Los Angeles Dodgers are on a winning streak but face a Philadelphia Phillies lineup that includes Bryce Harper for first time since May 14.

White is 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in five games this season. Mitch White leads the Dodgers’ effort in slowing down Harper in what’s his first start of the season. Harper is making his first start since receiving a receiving a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection last Sunday to treat a slight tear in the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow.

Dodgers vs. Phillies Odds, Picks, Predictions: Target Philly Early ... (The Action Network)

Charlie DiSturco previews Saturday's MLB game between the Dodgers and Phillies, including betting odds and a prediction.

But if not, I think both Nola and the White-Dodgers bullpen game should limit hard contact en route to a low scoring game. They look to bounce back with Aaron Nola on the mound this Saturday. The Dodgers, meanwhile, will open with Mitch White in what appears to be a bullpen game. But Nola isn’t the type of pitcher that will give free passes. Instead, I’m looking toward the first five under. Since Harper’s injury, the Phillies offense has taken a significant step back. All signs point to Nola remaining one of the Phillies’ top arms, as he should regress toward his dominant self in the coming weeks. The Dodgers are an incredibly patient team that walks frequently. White won’t go deep into the game and should be on a pitch count tonight. They allow the fewest walks in baseball, too. While I do think the Phillies hold a slight edge on Saturday night and do lean their way on the moneyline, I don’t think I can back them without Harper in the lineup. And while the Dodgers offense has been particularly effective all season long — especially against right-handers — they draw a tough matchup with Nola on the mound. The Dodgers bullpen ranks sixth in bullpen ERA this season and ranks inside the top 10 in home runs allowed.

Mitch White will start for a Dodgers team looking to extend its winning streak to seven games Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

In the next half-inning, Alec Bohm launched a two-run shot off Mitch White, bringing the Dodger right-hander’s evening to an end. Betts has been on a tear his last nine games, batting .333 with four home runs, nine extra-base hits and eight RBIs. Mookie Betts had no home runs in his first 11 games this season, and only two through 18.

MLB odds, picks, and predictions for Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies on May 21. MLB betting free picks for moneyline and Over/Under.

Today, the Phillies will avoid the Dodgers' stellar rotation and face a collection of relief pitchers, headlined by Mitch White who will serve as the starter. On top of that, the Phillies have failed to make the playoffs every year since Nola was called up as a fresh-faced 22-year-old in 2012. Phillies' relief pitchers have allowed a 4.06 ERA, which is the eighth-worst mark in the league. In 185 plate appearances, these Dodgers' batters have managed just a .181 batting average and .275 slugging percentage while striking out 26.5% of the time. The Dodgers have gone 7-2 to the Over in their last nine games. Mitch White (1-0, 4.82 ERA): White will serve as the Dodgers' "opener" and won't project to pitch too deep given that he is a relief pitcher. Phillies picks, you could win $51.46 on a $10 bet? Despite this, Nola doesn't have much to show for it in terms of accolades. Nola hasn't been lights out by any means, but starters who can maintain a 3.64 ERA and reliably eat up innings don't grow on trees. Conversely, the Phillies have now dropped four of their last five, scoring just eight runs combined during that time.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took a revenge win from the Philadelphia Phillies last ...

Yet I think the Dodgers get it done tonight thanks to a superior offense against a struggling Aaron Nola. I think the other reason for these odds is that the Dodgers are properly banged-up right now on the pitching side of things. The Los Angeles Dodgers took a revenge win from the Philadelphia Phillies last night after losing three of four against the Phils last weekend.

Phillies vs. Dodgers: Bryce Harper returns but Phillies lose again (NBC Sports)

The Phillies are losing games at an alarming rate. Saturday night's blown lead has them back to a season-worst four games under .500. By Jim Salisbury.

Thanks to an RBI double by Jean Segura, a two-run homer by Bohm and a solo homer by Kyle Schwarber, Nola took a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning. After going 0-2, Nola then threw three straight fastballs out of the zone to run the count full. The pitch was a hanger and Betts, a terrific hitter of off-speed pitches, did what good hitters do with hangers. Nola got ahead of Betts, 0-2, with a fastball and a curveball but could not put him away. He also gave up a homer with one out and the count full. A loss Sunday will put them there. Buoyed by Betts' big play to end the seventh, the Dodgers scored two in the top of the eighth to break the tie. Nola gave three two-out runs on a homer and a two-run double, both with full counts. On the, ahem, plus side, the Phillies scored four runs, matching their total from the previous three games. Another run scored on one of the two wild pitches that Dominguez threw in the inning. The Phils are averaging just two runs per game over their last six. The Phils are 18-22 overall, matching a season-high at four games under .500.
