Colorado weather: Where, when and how much snow to expect with ... (The Denver Post)

Fresh snow blankets the area Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in Beaver Creek, Colo. By Andy Stein | Special to The Denver Post. May 20, 2022 at 6 ...

Colorado Springs, and the Denver metro should brace for 4 to 8 inches of snow. The Palmer Divide near Castle Rock and Monument should expect 12 to 18 inches of snow. Rocky Mountain National Park and some of the highest elevations will see up to 30 inches of snow. Snow is already falling across some of the higher terrains above 7,000’ this morning and it will continue to snow there all day long. Continuing with the perfect recipe is the fact that we’ll be seeing bands of enhanced snowfall rates that could really allow snow to stack up quickly. On top of this, literally, the jet stream will be roaring and due to our placement under that jet, even more enhancement of moisture will occur.

Colorado to experience weather whiplash as heavy snow follows ... (CNN)

In less than 24 hours, Denver could go from having 90-degree weather to a potentially historic and dangerous snowstorm.

"In the foothills, where we've got one to two feet of snow in the forecast, there could be some pretty significant tree damage. Depending on when the snow falls, these daily records could be broken. Snowfall amounts could be as high as two to three feet in the higher elevations, and up to eight inches in the city of Denver, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Boulder.

Weather Blog: Strong May cold front, Colorado snowstorm (KSHB)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Good Friday bloggers,. We have had an up and down weather pattern for months. May, for example, saw highs in the 50s from May 2 to 4.

We will see lows in the mid 40s, if the clouds hold on. Any showers will be exiting our area as temperatures drop to the 40s along with a decreasing wind. East of the above mentioned line rainfall has been in the .50-1.25 inches range. Temperatures will be in the low 50s. Clouds will increase and temperatures will drop from the highs in the 70s to the 60s. The snowstorm will be roaring in Colorado. Denver does average 1.4 inches of snow in May, but after May 24 the average is zero. Our area will be breezy and quite cool for May with temperatures around 50 degrees along with a 10-20 miles per hour wind from the north. The mountains to the west may see 1-2 feet of snow! Areas of rain and thunderstorms, some severe, will form along and just behind the front. Snow will be increasing west of Denver where there is a Winter Storm Warning! Then, May 9 to 12 saw highs in the low 90s, with 3 record highs tied.

The Denver metro area is under a Winter Storm Warning starting at 4 p.m. Friday. The highest impacts from this very late season storm will be related to snow accumulation on trees. Farther west and east, there is a Winter Weather Advisory instead of a warning which means expected snow totals will be less and impacts should be less severe. There is still a chance for showers but it would be rain and not snow. In terms of temperatures, record lows are expected in Denver Saturday morning and again on Sunday morning.
