James Bradberry has always been about production on the football field. He's been a starting cornerback in all of his six NFL seasons.

The Eagles will continue to develop their young cornerbacks, of course, but teaming Bradberry with Slay on the outside and Maddox at the nickel position gives Philadelphia an experienced, accomplished, and versatile grouping of front-line cornerbacks. In New York, Bradberry recorded seven interceptions and 35 passes defensed in the 32 games he started and was a tough matchup for every receiver with his skills, savvy, and toughness. In 2020, he was a Pro Bowl selection.

Bradberry will also likely play opposite another Pro Bowl-caliber corner in Darius Slay, who collected his fourth Pro Bowl selection in 2021, creating a dangerous 1-2 combination in the Eagles secondary. The Eagles did not have a bad defensive showing in 2021, ranking in the top 10 in total yards allowed, but the addition of Bradberry will only make them better. Since joining the Giants in 2020, the Samford product has become one of the top cornerbacks in the league, collecting 100 tackles (80 solo), 35 passes defensed, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his time in New York. Bradberry also became the first Giants cornerback to be named to the Pro Bowl since 2016 when he made the team in 2020.

The Giants cut cornerback James Bradberry this month, but they'll be seeing him a couple of times during the 2022 season.

Adding a corner like Bradberry to the defense should be a big boost to that bid. Bradberry was set to make a $13.4 million salary before being released. According to multiple reports, it is a $10 million deal for Bradberry in Philadelphia but there’s no word on how much of that might be in incentives rather than base salary.

For Bradberry, it's another fresh start after establishing himself as a top cornerback during his time with the Carolina Panthers before parlaying that value into a three-year, $45 million deal with the Giants in 2020. The addition of Bradberry checks another box on what's been a promising offseason for general manager Howie Roseman, who also signed linebacker Haason Reddick in free agency before striking a blockbuster deal with the Tennessee Titans to acquire wideout A.J. Brown during the draft. The Pro Bowl cornerback was placed on the trade block heading into the 2022 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, but after weeks of shopping him to no avail, the club opted to instead release him outright on May 9.

In 2021, Bradberry had 17 passes defended and a career-high four interceptions, but his play was deemed to have fallen off after he landed a grade outside the top-50. Last season, Bradberry took a step back as Pro Football Focus had him graded as the sixth-best cornerback in the league that year. In 2020, the first year of the deal with New York, Bradberry logged three interceptions, and 18 pass deflections, and made the Pro Bowl after being rated as the sixth highest-graded cornerback in football.

James Bradberry lands with Philadelphia Eagles (Arrowhead Addict)

The Philadelphia Eagles emerged as the winners for the chance to sign free agent cornerback James Bradberry.

The Chiefs were rumored as favorites to land Bradberry in either a trade or after he was released, but K.C. has been quite busy rebuilding their secondary without making such a move for a veteran. They drafted Trent McDuffie after trading up in the first round and added three more cornerbacks on Day 3 of the draft. For several weeks, Bradberry has been a popular name linked with teams around the NFL that needed help at cornerback, a list including the Eagles and Chiefs among others.

Eagles Add Big Piece to Secondary, Sign James Bradberry (Sports Illustrated)

He spent the last two years in New York, but, when a trade never materialized with any team, was released so the Giants could free up salary cap space in order to sign their draft picks, including two top-10 picks in Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal. He had a career-high four picks last year with the Giants. He will start and have the opportunity to parlay his one-year deal into something better in the next offseason. The running back signed a one-year deal on May 17, 2017. Steve Nelson did exactly that. The youth on the roster will now have to battle to be one of the top reserves behind Slay and Bradberry, because Bradberry clearly isn’t being brought in to fight for a job.

James Bradberry lands with Eagles after Giants release (New York Post)

The Eagles have agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with former Giants cornerback James Bradberry.

A second-round draft pick in 2016, Bradberry began his NFL career with the Panthers before joining the Giants in 2020 on a three-year, $45 million deal. Bradberry was released by the Giants this month after the team failed to find a trade partner leading up to April’s 2022 NFL Draft. Though new general manager Joe Schoen had sung Bradberry’s praises, the Pro Bowler carried a $21.9 million salary-cap charge for 2022. The Eagles have agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with former Giants cornerback James Bradberry, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.

Bradberry, 28, was the New York Giants' No. 1 cornerback last season, but the team released him for salary cap savings earlier this month.

Bradberry joins a long list of offseason additions, particularly on defense, who should position the Eagles to compete for another playoff berth next season. “He’s a really good player; he’s been proving he’s been a really good player in this league for a while. Bradberry was drafted by Carolina in the second round out of Samford in 2016. In zone coverage, he was much better, allowing a QBR of 76.5 and recording 11 of his 13 PBUs. Bradberry was one of the NFL’s best corners in 2020, recording 14 pass breakups and allowing just 44 catches on 78 targets. Teaming Bradberry, a Pro Bowler in 2020, with Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox will give the Eagles a formidable starting cornerback rotation with plenty of depth behind it.

The Eagles and GM Howie Roseman were able to keep Bradberry in the NFC East with a one-year deal worth up to $10 million with $7.25M of that guaranteed.

Philadelphia Eagles: Signing James Bradberry is a compounding ... (Section 215)

After weeks of advocation from fans and players alike, the Philadelphia Eagles have officially signed James Bradberry as their new CB2.

That’s exactly what the Philadelphia Eagles did by signing James Bradberry, and really, the only “loser” in this deal is the New York Giants, who lost their best cornerback due to a poor allocation of resources by their former general manager. You bet, even at 31, “Big Play” is still one of the best corners in the NFL today, but now, that spot will be filled by James Bradberry, who, like Slay, had a Pro Bowl on his resume. On Tuesday, the Eagles’ CB2 was clearly their weakest link and would have been targeted over and over again by savvy coaches calling in plays to savvy quarterbacks.

The former Pro Bowl corner is heading to Philadelphia on a one-year deal.

“I thought there would be more interest,“ Schoen said on WFAN Sports Radio. “There were some teams that showed interest pre-draft, and we had a couple different times there were compensation in place and the contract never worked out. Prior to his two seasons in New York, Bradberry spent the first four seasons of his career in Carolina after being drafted by the Panthers as a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of Samford. Being the fact that we did have good talks with the other teams and their agents had good talks with teams, sometimes if you’re going to renegotiate a contract and couldn’t come to an agreement, it is what it is.”
