This is because lupus is hard to identify and remedy, even if there have been breakthroughs in treatment in recent years (via The Conversation). The post actually inspired multiple comments about another medical drama that was created by "The Good Doctor" developer and executive producer David Shore. In the thread about the abundance of cancer diagnoses on the series, u/Digital3Duke replied to the meme by writing, "At least it's not Lupus." This is a callback to the Fox series "House," which focused on the irascible Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) who has a knack for diagnosing particularly tricky medical problems. The photo hilariously depicts the characters declaring "He has cancer!" On ABC's "The Good Doctor," Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and the other surgeons and residents at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital must regularly deal with challenging medical situations and emergencies. We see this when Claire (Antonia Thomas) and Jared (Chuku Modu) comfort one another after both of their patients die in "22 Steps." Shaun's autism, including his ability to hyperfocus and notice small details, gives him a unique perspective, allowing him to perceive what the other residents don't. However, treating patients who can succumb to serious illnesses and bodily damage can exact a serious emotional toll, as well.

The Good Doctor Season 5 Finale Cliffhanger Called Back To An ... (Central Recorder)

The cliffhanger involved Dr. Lim and Nurse Villanueva, and it called back to an iconic scene from another medical drama. But does it bode well that The Good ...

Now, on the one hand, I applaud any show that makes a nod to an iconic ER scene, if the Good Doctor scene truly was inspired by what happened to Carter and Lucy back in 2000 and not just a coincidence of the writing. No. Lim saw Villanueva bleeding on the floor first, and then was stabbed from the front, whereas Carter was stabbed in the back and didn’t find Lucy until he too had fallen to the floor. Then, Carter went to check on Lucy and the patient in a dark exam room, and everything went wrong. Lim at least was still alive, and Villanueva was still breathing the last time that the camera focused on her face, but it’s going to be a long hiatus for fans wondering what happens next. It was when Lim went down into the break room in search of more glasses while everybody partied two floors above – with nobody else, music blaring, and only a couple of minutes left in the episode – that I started flashing back to ER, and it turns out that I wasn’t entirely off-base. Villanueva was trying to get on her feet and move out of Lim’s place, but her boss made it clear that she was more than welcome to stay, since getting over the relationship with her abuser wasn’t going to be easy.

"Lim's journey is going to be a big part of it, we have some nice things planned for Glassman (Richard Schiff), and, of course, nothing but wedded bliss for Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara)." "She is such a strong character, and challenging her physically seems very interesting," he added. "We don't do anything that's not meaningful. That's the whole point!"
