Pennsylvania primary Senate race: High-stakes for GOP's Oz ... (NBC News)

After months of vitriol and tens of millions of dollars worth of TV ads, Pennsylvania's primaries for Senate and governor will be decided Tuesday, ...

Fetterman has built a national profile through his support for legal marijuana and LGBTQ rights while eschewing labels like "progressive" and pushing back on comparisons with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the democratic socialist he has aligned with in the past. Lamb and Kenyatta have both criticized Fetterman for a 2013 incident in which he pulled a shotgun on a Black jogger after hearing what he thought was gunfire and detaining the man until police arrived. But it’s Pennsylvania — with its chaotic and Trumpy primaries and swing-state status — that is commanding most of the national attention. The jogger was unarmed. He’s puzzled others by calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “a thug.” And several recent photos and videos have surfaced — in one Cawthorn is seen naked, gyrating on top of another man — that could wound him politically. The GOP Senate primary in North Carolina, where Republican incumbent Richard Burr is retiring, has particularly high stakes. Oz and McCormick quickly jumped into the race. Mastriano and Barnette, who have campaigned as a tandem, represent the party’s far-right flank. Oz has vowed to renounce his Turkish citizenship if he wins the Senate race. In the battle to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, Trump-backed Mehmet Oz, a celebrity physician known from his nationally syndicated daytime talk show, is locked in a three-way fight for the GOP nomination. He and former hedge fund manager Dave McCormick have bombarded the state’s airwaves with commercials. Trump, however, weighed in Saturday with a last-minute endorsement of Mastriano.

In the battle to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, Trump-backed Mehmet Oz, a celebrity physician known from his nationally syndicated daytime talk show, is locked in a three-way fight for the GOP nomination. “He’s a hot mess,” Susan Newman, 53, a teacher from nearby Laurel Park who voted for Cawthorn two years ago, said in the parking lot of an Ingles grocery store. Wade decision, which has protected the constitutional right to abortion for nearly a half-century, debate over the future of abortion rights has permeated Pennsylvania’s elections ahead of Tuesday’s primaries while activists on both sides assess next moves. His campaign for the Senate said he voted by emergency absentee ballot. "We got the all-clear that it was successful, and that I’m on track for a full recovery," Fetterman wrote. Fetterman is the front-runner in Tuesday's Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania. Earlier Tuesday, he voted by emergency absentee ballot. Should Mastriano, who received former President Donald Trump’s last minute backing on Saturday, prevail in the general election, he would have the ability to appoint a secretary of state to oversee elections. One conservative Republican, Terry Henry, said he had been struggling over whether to back Cawthorn in the GOP primary. “They have fought a malicious, chaotic primary campaign to be the most extreme. In Pennsylvania, all eyes are on the Senate and governor's races. Another Trump pick in North Carolina, Rep. Madison Cawthorn, is at risk of losing his seat after a series of scandals. Budd was locked in a tight race but began to surge after Trump appeared at a rally with him.

McCormick and Oz neck-and-neck in Pennsylvania as Fetterman ... (Politico)

Republicans Dave McCormick and Mehmet Oz remained locked in a battle for the GOP Senate nomination in Pennsylvania into the early hours of Wednesday morning ...

His rise in the polls coincided with Trump’s rally in the state in early April, and has continued to grow since. A wild card in the race is Betsy Johnson, a former conservative Democratic state senator who is running as an independent candidate in the fall. But despite the spending advantage in his favor, Flynn conceded the nomination to state Rep. Andrea Salinas. And in the most expensive House race of the year, the candidate backed by big money lost the Democratic nomination. In Oregon, former state House Speaker Tina Kotek grabbed the Democratic nomination to succeed Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, who is term-limited. And he placed a target on his back because the left believes he and several other moderate House Democrats united to tank Biden’s massive social spending plan. A last-ditch effort to try to consolidate opposition to him materialized last week, but it quickly fizzled after none of the leading candidates dropped out — and Trump endorsed Mastriano over the weekend. Trump’s gamble on endorsing Oz despite trailing McCormick in most polls at the time shows Trump’s belief in the power of the celebrity candidate — even one who is relatively polarizing, with nearly evenly split favorable and unfavorable ratings. He led all of the recent polls in the splintered field that also includes former Rep. Lou Barletta, former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain and businessman Dave White, among others. The Senate contest has become one of the highest-profile races of 2022, with former President Donald Trump weighing in for Oz. A series of expensive proxy battles broke out over the last month between outside groups aligned with progressive Democrats and more moderate candidates in safely Democratic House seats. Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), the outspoken and scandal-plagued freshman, lost his bid for a second term to state Sen. Chuck Edwards in a Republican primary after repeated scandals.

Despite it being a prepared speech to a high-profile audience, Cawthorn badly botched historical facts — even as he emphasized the importance of understanding history. On Tuesday, after less than a single full two-year term, Cawthorn lost his primary. “He understands exactly how to make a difference, and he’s been doing that this entire campaign, much of it behind the scenes, giving me advice on late-night conversations, again, the kinds of things that true friends do for each other.” Officials said the glitch involved several thousand ballots and could take days to rectify. Attorneys general candidates must support abortion access to get the political committee’s backing. It was a moment of triumph not just for Edwards but also for a cast of prominent North Carolina Republicans who have been working behind the scenes to oust Cawthorn. And it was a moment of defeat for Trump after he re-upped his endorsement of Cawthorn over the weekend, asking voters to “give Madison a second chance” following his “foolish mistakes.” But instead voters made the freshman the second U.S. House incumbent to lose in this tumultuous election cycle and put a black mark on Trump’s endorsement record.“Technically this is the sixth or seventh chance,” Sen. He said he was “on track for a full recovery.” And Fetterman will likely face scrutiny over a 2013 incident when, shotgun in hand, he confronted a Black man because he suspected the man was involved in gunfire nearby. “In this moment, we have the power to protect our rights.” But Biden downplayed any coming squabbles between his party’s left flank and traditional establishment, tweeting that electing Fetterman to the Senate “would be a big step forward for Pennsylvania’s working people.” The 52-year-old Fetterman is known for his hulking, 6-foot-8 stature and his tattoos that helped him build a political persona as an outsider. He has pledged to take the extraordinary step of requiring voters to “re-register” to vote, a move that would almost certainly encounter legal hurdles. She declared at a victory party that “this is our moment.” “Under Joe Biden, America is woke and broke,” he said at a victory rally. That is absolutely not true,” Mastriano said, adding that it was Democrats who have “gone extreme.” He quickly pivoted to a general election message focused on breaking Democratic control of Washington. He’s also been subpoenaed by the House committee investigating the Capitol riot following his efforts to name a slate of alternate Electoral College electors in Trump’s favor. With just a few hundred votes separating Oz and McCormick, the result may not be clear for several days.
