The Boys Season 3 is almost here and we've got a brand new trailer to clue us in on what to expect from the sadistic superhero comedy-drama.

You’ll have likely spotted the new face in this trailer as well: A bearded superhero with a kite shield who uses that shield to bash in someone’s face rather gruesomely. The other really interesting bit in this trailer is the new formula that gives normal people superhero powers for 24 hours. First off, it looks like Homelander—a psychotic Superman, basically—is going full-evil this season, and letting “the real me” out of the bag. From the very first moment you meet him in Season 1 you can tell that something’s off, so it’s kind of funny to hear them say “There’s something wrong with Homelander” now. This is an unabashedly political show, so if that sort of thing bothers you it’s probably best to sit this one out. The comic book adaptation follows the titular ‘Boys’ as they set out on a suicide mission to stop the Seven—a corrupt superhero organization that’s basically The Avengers, if the Avengers were both extremely evil and totally obsessed with marketing themselves to the public.

For those less familiar with the show’s concept, The Boys follows the titular vigilante group who attempt to keep their world’s superheroes, a.k.a. Supes, in line. Starlight ( Erin Moriarty) tries conveying the danger to someone over the phone, saying, “there’s something wrong with Homelander, there’s something broken, he’s lost his f**king mind,” she warns. “I’m just a man who fell for the wrong woman,” Homelander says, repeating the same thing over and over again to various press.

The dark superhero series returns to Prime Video on June 3.

He’s obviously full of shit, because he’s Homelander, but this turn does give Starr a lot of opportunities to flash that terrible smile of his. The Boys also stars Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Chace Crawford, and Jessie T. Usher. It’ll return for its third season on Amazon Prime Video on June 3. The second big thing in this teaser is Butcher shooting up with some green juice that gives him superpowers, setting up an ethical debate over whether it’s okay to use superpowers to kill the bad people who don’t deserve to have superpowers (it’s probably not okay).

The trailer, set to the classic Beach Boys song “Heroes and Villains,” also teases the debut of the character Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), as well as the return of Vought CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito). Based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book of the same name, “The Boys” focuses on a world where superheroes are employees for the powerful Vought International corporation, which monetizes their exploits and uses its power to hide the fact that the majority of them are corrupt. Season 3 of “The Boys” sees the Seven recovering from a PR crisis after their member Stormfront (Aya Cash) is exposed as a neo-Nazi and white supremacist.

Well, according to the first full trailer for The Boys season 3: not great! After some brief clips and one enigmatic, entirely wordless teaser, this is the longest look we’ve had at The Boys season 3 yet. Perhaps even more disturbing than Homelander’s cow date, however, is his line near the end of the trailer: “I showed people the real me and they fucking love me.” Throughout much of The Boys, Hughie and Starlight have operated under the principle that if they could just expose Vought’s superheroes’ awful behavior to the public that it would eventually engender change. But going into season 3, Homelander is decidedly far from the best of days. What’s next for Vought and the Church of the Collective? Will Hughie (Jack Quaid) ever discover that his new boss Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is a brain-exploding supe? Vought Corporation’s ubermensch is not always entirely mentally sound, even on the best of days.

Wielding laser vision, Butcher will, at last, be able to take the fight to Homelander in a way he has never been able to before. The Boys Season 3 finds Billy Butcher in a surprising position – calm and on the straight and narrow. All of the characters have choices to make.” The fun stuff is figuring out the exploding bodies.” On The Seven side of things, Starlight and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) will have to recover from their titanic battle against Homelander and Stormfront. The Deep is still stuck in his Church of the Collective purgatory, while A-Train is on his way back into The Seven’s good graces. Yet in the world of The Boys, superheroes or “supes” are very much real. “He’s kind of the original superhero in this world,” Ackles says. Adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s 2006 comic series of the same name, The Boys imagines a world in which the public is obsessed with superheroes. And that’s something that season 3 is perfectly happy to do. But as Kripke, Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko Miyashiro), and Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) take their places on the hopefully comfortable stools we’ve provided, the conversation eventually goes to where most conversations about The Boys inevitably end up: the verisimilitude of superhero orgies. Depicting the outlandish in the most honest way possible has become a hallmark of Amazon’s massively successful superhero satire.
