Series Win A Great Big Step For Oilers (The Copper & Blue)

In winning Game Seven of their first round series with the Los Angeles Kings, the Edmonton Oilers not only clinched a spot in the second round of the ...

Winning isn’t as easy as many of us believe it to be so when it does come around, learning to appreciate the entire journey is a must. The moment the final buzzer went, was the moment we saw a collective release of joy from the masses and it was heartwarming to watch play out. Hockey fans across the globe got to witness exactly that last night and Oilers fans were lucky enough to experience it first-hand. The past two and half years have been difficult on this community and it needed a reason to come together. It’s hard to blame them and that uncertainty comes with a lack of success. The sea of orange that gathered inside Rogers Place, just outside of it in the “Moss Pit” and in establishments and living rooms across the city spoke volumes.

Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid is turning playoff dreams into reality (The Athletic)

The Oilers' Game 6 and 7 wins might have been the best back-to-back performances of McDavid's NHL career.

“He has put a lot of time into this organization and worked really hard to be the best in the world. Connor can cycle you and beat you off the cycle and score as well. As a result, the Oilers are among the elite eight for the first time since 2017. “We have to see him in practice all the time and he has another level in games and especially this series. “We had a lot of chances to make it 2-0, even late in the second and early in the third,” McDavid said. They had few answers for him in the series — and none when it mattered most. With a penalty upcoming, McDavid grabbed the puck behind the net, tried a wraparound, grabbed the rebound and then backhanded a shot over down-and-out goaltender Jonathan Quick. Finally, McDavid received a pass, spun away from Kopitar, used the net as a shield and then found Ceci alone. “He was a determined player. The two points he recorded would have been much greater had his teammates capitalized on a few more chances. Give credit to Mike Smith for his second shutout of the series. Though there were plenty of excellent performances from his teammates as well, McDavid drove the Oilers to two victories while facing elimination.

Clips and Quotes: Edmonton Oilers 'hunt' LA Kings in game seven, 2 ... (Oilers Nation)

hello! connor mcdavid lays a big hit on sean durzi 22 seconds into the game.

On the Oilers’ play in game seven: “I thought we tried to put an emphasis on playing the game right. I think that type of mindset, when you see people play through stuff, it is contagious and they’re a big reason, a huge reason, why we’re at where we’re at which is we’re advancing to round number two.” Like we talked about, it’s not just on Connor and Leon, but they sure did a heckuva job to push in the right direction and a lot of other guys filled in the gaps and got the job done. I had experience with guys in the American League, or guys I had been around in Edmonton, but we wanted to coach with our eyes and give guys opportunities, fair opportunities, to allow them to show us what they could do,and couldn’t do. We do it for the fans, the people that support us, that spend a lot of money watching us in these games and really cheering us on when it’s not going so well, or when it’s not going our way. On the relief of scoring the second goal: “I thought we had a lot of chances to make it 2-0 even late in the second and early in the third. Obviously, we play within our group, we play for each other and our team, for the guys in the room, but we also do it for the city. On enjoying the moment of a game seven, it being his first: “To be honest, I wasn’t really approaching it like a game seven. On McDavid: “He’s the best player in the world and I think he showed that in the last two games. On the Oilers playing a complete game offensively and defensively: “It feels good to do it in that fashion. On the Oilers defensive play, what changed to in games six and seven: “I think it had a lot to due with work and dedication to what we were doing down the stretch. I thought we really bought in the last couple games, played desperate and showed we can be a tough team to beat.”

Oilers will be facing off against either the Calgary Flames or the Dallas Stars as those two teams face off for Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs Sunday evening. Raponos noted that tickets resold through the official Oilers website or directly through Ticketmaster are the only tickets that will guarantee you entrance to the game. Edmonton Oilers tickets for the first three home games of the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs sold out “almost instantaneously” after they were put out publicly, according to officials with the team.

The Edmonton Oilers finally break out of their Peter Chiarelli ... (Edmonton Journal)

The Edmonton Oilers earned their first home ice Game 7 playoff win in 32 years Saturday, with a 2-0 shutout of Los Angeles.

A Top-8 team. They are a Stanley Cup contender. We get to have opinions. And look, we all get to fan. But I won’t forget that it was the much-maligned Ken Holland who wanted to see how this team looked with both goalies healthy before making wholesale changes. On my list: Dylan Holloway (who was terrific in the Condors’ final, elimination game), Phillip Broberg, Stuart Skinner, and Marcus Niemelainen. As a dark horse…perhaps veteran Brad Malone. Malone can play all 3 forward positions and his leadership could be helpful on a taxi squad. Article content Article content I hope that rubs off on a few others. "We're trying to get some rest and some regeneration and prepare for the next challenge," he said. It’s not just on Connor and Leon, but they sure did a heckuva job to get us going in the right direction and a lot of other guys filled in the gaps.” "And if you want to get through one of the hardest rounds, your best players have to be at the top of their game or better. Draisaitl appeared to play Saturday's game with an ankle injury he suffered during a scrum in Game 6. “He's a warrior, just an absolute warrior," Woodcroft said. He had a goal and an assist, and registered more than 27 minutes of ice time in Saturday's crucial victory. But L.A. came into the post-season strong and took a 4-3 win in Game 1. Last year, the Winnipeg Jets swept Edmonton in a four-game first-round series. Game 6 in L.A. saw the Oilers stay alive with a tightly contested 4-2 victory. "We’ve faced a lot of adversity all season," Draisaitl said. "There were a lot of ups and downs, a lot of people who counted us out long before the playoffs started. "It feels good to do it with this group.

McDavid incredibly hits another level as Oilers get over first-round ... (Sportsnet.ca)

EDMONTON — It wasn't a Toronto-sized hump, but out here in the Hinterlands — where the games start at 8:20 p.m. and our maple leafs are red, ...

“It feels good to do it in that fashion,” said the captain. “It’s everything,” Draisaitl said of the fan support. This Oilers team was always one to panic. The defensive masterpiece wasn’t lost on McDavid, who today is 10 times the 200-foot player he was even two seasons ago. When it was required Saturday, Edmonton defended L.A. into the ice. You can see it in his eyes, you can feel it every shift that he’s out there. That should be enough to win a hockey game.” Sure, he’s known for five- and six-point nights, but in these two games, his all-around game has been Crosby-like, his utter dominance Gretzkian. But we plan on continuing to play for a while.” Roget himself would run out of adjectives to describe McDavid’s play, on yet another night where the planet’s best player showed us even more. There, they’ll face the winner of Sunday’s Game 7 between the Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars, two old playoff foes from days gone by. But when the season ends and you’ve played just four more games than the Arizona Coyotes or the New Jersey Devils, well, it gets stale.

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers advanced through to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 2-0 Game 7 victory ...

The Oilers finally got some insurance with 3:53 left in the third on a terrific individual effort from McDavid, who drove behind the net before sending his second backhand attempt into the net for his fourth goal and league-leading 14th playoff point. "It feels good to do it in that fashion," McDavid said of the shutout. To win a Game 7 before home fans who gave us a boost before the drop of the puck, that was an incredible feeling and hopefully it'll stick around for the next round." "The last couple of years with no fans has sucked, nobody in the building was disappointing. We're happy to move on to the second round, but that is all we did, survived another day." "But that being said, it is just one round.

The Day After: Oilers close out the series with massive 2-0 win over ... (Oilers Nation)

From the moment Connor McDavid laid Sean Durzi out on his first shift of the night until La Bamba blasted over the speakers, it always felt like this game was ...

We talk about the young draft picks coming and doing their thing, I thought there was growth in some of our older players as well, adapting to a new way of playing, adapting to different roles. Quietly solid all season long, Ceci has been a rock for the Oilers on the back end and I was extremely pumped to see him get rewarded with a huge goal. Yeah, you can talk about the six multi-point nights he put up in a seven-game series — that’s a stat that blows my mind to think about — but when his team had their backs up against the wall, McDavid rose to the occasion in a way that only he can. The Oilers played their best hockey when they needed to and because of that reason, we’re moving onto the second round and I could not be more excited. Led by their captain, the Oilers were far and away the better hockey team, and even though they couldn’t get on the board until the back half of the second period, I never felt like the game was slipping away. And even though they didn’t necessarily get that hot start — Jonathan Quick was excellent for the Kings — the Oilers kept finding ways to keep the Rogers Place faithful buzzing even when the stress levels were off the charts.
