‘Yeah, I think I of course want to be on the pitch, and recently with the limited times that I have had, I have been trying to make as big of an impact as I can. One of the cliches used around the cup is that it gives a chance for ‘unfashionable teams’ to capture the public imagination. In the mid-60s, Liverpool and Chelsea were the most fashionable sides in the game.” It has been a source of frustration, most of all to his father, who took to social media to complain about how his son is not used more. Follow live coverage of Chelsea vs Liverpool in the 2022 FA Cup final, below: For much of the past two decades there have been attempts to manufacture a rivalry between the clubs that goes beyond the natural levels of antagonism. A modern rivalry, steeped in FA Cup history. Chelsea will also be desperate to avoid becoming the first team in FA Cup history to lose three consecutive finals, after they were beaten by Leicester and Arsenal in 2021 and 2020 respectively. Chelsea cruised through their opening encounter, with Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen all on target in the first half. It remains a possibility for Jurgen Klopp’s side, even if Manchester City are closing in on the Premier League title, but Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will be out for revenge as they aim to win the competition for the ninth time. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the extra-time hero for Chelsea, saving Ryan Hardie’s spot-kick to sneak the Blues through without the need for a shoot-out. The Blues had no real pressure dealing with Middlesbrough, however, and progressed to the last four.

So even though Chelsea are current world champions, Liverpool have a stronger case to be the best team on the planet, and indeed in the solar system. Thomas Tuchel needs to make a call on the fitness of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, neither of whom are 100 per cent fit. (That lot on Neptune are still playing the W-M formation FFS.) The recent form of both clubs makes them odds-on favourites today, though Chelsea looked a lot perkier when they dismantled Leeds in the week. One of those was a 2-1 victory over Liverpool a decade ago, when Petr Cech made one of the great FA Cup final saves. This is the 150th FA Cup final; none of the previous 149 have involved one recent world champion, never mind two. Then, on 17 May 1997, they beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup final to win their first major honour in 26 years.
Updates, score, team news and highlights from the FA Cup final at Wembley, as Liverpool continue their quadruple dream against Chelsea.
15 mins to KO: In the programme here at Wembley, American superstar Christian Pulisic - who scored in the 2020 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal - spoke of the importance of inspiring those in his homeland. Chelsea's recent record in the FA Cup is stronger, having won it five times since their rivals' last success. They'll take on a Liverpool midfield of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Thiago, following the injury in midweek to key man Fabinho. 50 mins to KO: In addition to the Carabao Cup stalemate, there was nothing to separate the rivals in their two league games this season, either. The Chelsea man had come out on top in the early knockings, but Diaz then tees up the Reds' first chance of the game, with his cross agonisingly unable to be met by Thiago. Deafening atmosphere from the Merseyside giants' fans in the buildup. 27th min: After a spell of light Liverpool pressure, Mount bursts forward to play in the onrushing Alonso for another golden opportunity, but Alisson comes up big to deny the Spaniard fantastically. Chelsea in all yellow, Liverpool in their traditional red. The Belgian has struggled to make an impact in this first half. Chelsea will be the happier of the two sides, after Klopp's men failed to make the most of their fantastic early pressure, particularly through Diaz, who was electric in his buildup but also somewhat wasteful. WEMBLEY STADIUM, LONDON — For the second time in three months, Liverpool face Chelsea at the home of football. 46th min: The second period is underway here, and it begins with Chelsea on the front foot.

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcântara is a shoo-in and alongside him Naby Keïta, will have an important role to play — this time at least he will be prepared and expecting to start as well, unlike in the Carabao Cup final. Ibrahima Konaté and Kostas Tsimikas have made a strong case to start in recent weeks, but I expect Liverpool to go with the experience of Joël Matip and Andy Robertson instead. There will be no headaches for Jürgen Klopp in terms of match selection heading into this final. However, Matip has done nothing to lose his place, and the concentration and nous of the senior option should be preferred on this occasion. Sometimes I'll throw in a wildcard shout for the sake of manufacturing some disagreement with Matt, but it's hard to look past his selections for the final. Meanwhile, the goals have certainly not dried up for Mané, who has made himself undroppable through the middle.

Chelsea vs Liverpool promises to be an epic FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday as Jurgen Klopp's machine aim to keep their quadruple hopes alive.
Tuchel has plenty of options in attack and he went with in-form Romelu Lukaku in a central role with Pulisic and Mount underneath him. The two have meet 191 times in history. Welcome to a glorious sunny day here at Wembley. What a setting for what should be an incredible final between two giants of the English game. Wow. Liverpool well on top and Diaz is having the time of his life out there. Best bit of play for Chelsea as Reece James finds Romelu Lukaku in the box but he handled and the whistle goes. A cross is then whipped in but Salah heads over. The ball fell to Pulisic but he dragged his shot just wide. As for Chelsea this is the fourth major final Thomas Tuchel has reached in just over a year as Blues boss (two FA Cup finals, one League Cup final and the Champions League final) and he would dearly love to win this trophy to go along with the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup Chelsea have already added to the trophy cabinet in 2021-22. That is a big blow for Liverpool and let’s see if he’s going to be fit for the Champions League final. Pulisic looks to the sky in disbelief. Good play from Jota in the build-up. Given the fact they already have the League Cup trophy, are just behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race heading into the final two games and are in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris on May 28, this final represents the start of what could be an historic two weeks for Liverpool, even by their own high standards.

Liverpool won the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history on Saturday by beating Chelsea in a tense final at Wembley Stadium.
As a consequence, extra time was a scrap and the quality level dipped. Diaz and Andy Robertson then crashed efforts off the post as Liverpool applied pressure in the final 10 minutes of the 90. And the Colombian was one of three players to hit the woodwork in normal time. Liverpool won the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history on Saturday by beating Chelsea in a tense final at Wembley Stadium. Liverpool keeper Alisson started the move with a precise chip to Luis Diaz, who four passes later was sent racing through on goal by a piece of Trent Alexander-Arnold brilliance. The 2021/22 FA Cup had witnessed some spectacular goals on the road to Wembley but Liverpool almost scored a contender for Goal of the Season early in the first half.

The weight on the ball from Pulisic was perfect but Alonso’s first touch was poor and it made Alisson’s block a formality. Liverpool repeatedly worked it towards the left at the outset and Trent Alexander-Arnold created a huge chance for Díaz with a sumptuous outside-of-the-boot pass. The atmosphere pulsed and it was Liverpool who laid down the early marker, with Díaz prominently involved down the left. Alisson was the Liverpool hero in the second round of sudden death, going the right way to deny Mason Mount and clearing the way for the Liverpool substitute Kostas Tsimikas to win it. There were big opportunities for Christian Pulisic and Marcos Alonso in the first half and Alonso again after the interval. For a snapshot of the drama, look no further than the 60 seconds or so from the 83rd minute when Liverpool created two openings and hit each post at the end of them.
Jordan Henderson lifts the FA Cup after Liverpool's shootout win over Chelsea. Wembley Stadium, London (CNN) There is something about this Liverpool team.
Just as in the League Cup final, a scoreless 120 minutes belied the quality of the match. Robertson hit the post with seven minutes to go before Diaz again took aim. Again, Alonso was denied from getting on the scoresheet, this time by the crossbar as his menacing free-kick hit the woodwork. The match was just minutes old when Liverpool got its first chance. It was entertaining. It was breathless.
A penalty off the post from Cesar Azpilicueta and a weak effort from Mason Mount that Alisson saved were just enough to see the Reds keep their dream of a ...
Liverpool followed up by hitting the other post in less than a minute. For only the sixth time in FA Cup history, the final is level after 90 minutes. While there was contact between him and Alexander-Arnold this is a game that has given the players room to foul a bit more than usual. It was surprising to not see van Dijk play 120 minutes in the match so it has to be a thought going through Klopp's head. In extra time he had a big chance that Joel Matip played perfectly to stop but in what has been a trying season for Pulisic, he still showed how dangerous he can be in a Chelsea shirt. Matip's fresh legs were able to stay with Pulisic and stop his chance from ending in a goal. After a strong start to the match, Liverpool were out of energy after the 60th minute and if they plan to put everything possible into trying to win the Premier League, the team will need to push plenty of goals past Southampton. They trail City not only by three points, but also by seven in goal difference. It's another victory for Jurgen Klopp over Thomas Tuchel as well, after Liverpool bested Chelsea on penalties in the EFL Cup final in February. And it's also Chelsea's third straight FA Cup final loss, a record in the 150 year history of the competition. Lukaku only took one shot during the match and while he did create chances for Christian Pulisic by drawing in multiple defenders, he didn't do enough on his own when it mattered and was subbed out for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in extra time. There was no messing around for Tuchel who had swapped keepers at the end of extra time ahead of the last shootout these two teams played, back in the League Cup final. While Liverpool came out of the gate hot, adjustments from Thomas Tuchel and strong defending from Thiago Silva kept things close for the 120 minutes before another epic shootout between the two teams. The match was deadlocked at 0-0 after the sides played 120 minutes but Liverpool won the penalty shootout 6-5 to lift the FA Cup on the tournament's 150th anniversary.
Third time was not the charm for Chelsea after slumping to defeat to Liverpool 0-0 (5-6 pens) at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.
Brought some steel and energy to the centre of the pitch when others were waning. With barely any room to breathe in the engine room, the Croatian dynamo did well a number of times to escape from the grasps of a hungry sea of red. Was always going to be a tough assignment up against livewire Diaz, who sprung in behind far too often. And they were dreaded for a reason, with Alisson Becker denying Mason Mount in sudden death. But the siege began in earnest again, with The Reds clattering the woodwork twice in a matter of minutes as regulation time drew to a close. But the best chances actually came via Christian Pulisic and Marcos Alonso, serving a timely reminder of the Blues' threat on the counter.

Similar to their League Cup final penalty shootout win over Chelsea, the Reds reigned victorious again. This is Liverpool’s first FA Cup victory since 2006 when they defeated West Ham. The Reds have won nineteen League titles, seven FA Cups, a record nine League Cups, as well as fifteen FA Community Shields. Liverpool has officially claimed victory over Chelsea in the 2022 Emirates FA Cup final, and from a shootout nonetheless.

I remember standing at the side of the pitch with my palms sweating waiting to run on and get into position. She opened with 'One Kiss', a collaboration with Calvin Harris that spent eight weeks at number one in the UK charts. At her arena show in Liverpool last month, Reds great Jamie Carragher presented her with a Liverpool shirt with 'Lipa 1' on the back. In 2019, after amassing 97 points to finish as runners-up in the Premier League to Manchester City, they won the Champions League with a 2-0 final victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid. Despite the disappointment in Kyiv, Liverpool fans remained on the crest of a wave, convinced the Klopp era would bring back the good times. "I was so full of adrenaline it was over very quickly and I remember running off the pitch at the end with two of my tour dancers.
Liverpool were exhausted by the end of Saturday's FA Cup final, but held on to win. Now can they find the energy to keep the Quadruple alive?
Yet they might also be needed at Southampton and, if Liverpool win that game, at home to Wolves on the final of the season next Sunday. They are all must-win fixtures, but players can push their physical and psychological limits only so far, and the situation with Fabinho, Salah and Van Dijk is a testament to do that. And that is the biggest problem now facing Liverpool in their quadruple quest: do they have enough time to play, win and recover before their next challenge? That fate has already befallen Fabinho, who missed this game because of a hamstring strain suffered in the 2-1 win at Aston Villa in midweek, but Klopp is confident that the Brazil midfielder will be fit to face Real. History tends not to remember the losers, and Chelsea's failure to win again will quickly be drowned out by a red tide of Liverpool plaudits. It is now two down, two to go, after a second cup final penalty shootout win against Chelsea this season saw Jurgen Klopp's team add the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they lifted at Wembley three months ago.

"Like in the last final, the League Cup, no regrets. Shortly after, Pulisic's pass gave Marcos Alonso a sight of goal, but Alisson was off his line quickly to deny the Chelsea defender. Liverpool were on top early with Luis Diaz a particular threat. "We played 240 minutes in two finals against maybe the most dangerous attacking team in the world and it's 0-0." The win was Liverpool's eighth in the 150-year history of the FA Cup, drawing them level with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal have won the most with 14. It was a carbon copy of the League Cup final in February, which Liverpool won 11-10 on penalties after that game also finished goalless.
Alisson gave a towering performance which culminated in a decisive save, while Romelu Lukaku had a day to forget.
Luis Díaz The winger had the beating of Chalobah during the early stages but his end product was lacking. Mohamed Salah The Egyptian looked weary before limping off in the 33rd minute. Thiago Alcântara The Spaniard was a controlling presence in the middle, although he was lucky to escape when Mount picked his pocket. He had more to think about when James began to push higher. He was there to force Lukaku to fire over. He had a few unconvincing moments defensively but also made some important tackles. Trent Alexander-Arnold There was an amazing ball to release Díaz and some devilish crosses. The message did not get through to the lethargic Lukaku. Unsurprisingly substituted. 6 Marcos Alonso He lacks pace but had a reliable game. 6 6

This time, Tuchel opted against breaking the glass that held Kepa Arrizabalaga back from the shootout after the spot kick specialist was unable to make a save in the EFL Cup final. He might have done better with the chances that came his way but it said everything about Tuchel's assessment of his performance that when the fourth official raised the No.10 to make way for Hakim Ziyech it was soon swapped to Romelu Lukaku's nine. As has been the case for so much of Klopp's tenure, that faith was vindicated in emphatic fashion. As he looked to the heavens in jubilation he did not seem to doubt for a second that Kostas Tsimikas would do the business a few seconds later. When the whistle sounded after 90 minutes, another half hour felt like a cruel imposition on these two, who had dug into the deepest recesses of their muscles to provide Wembley with one of the better cup finals in recent memory. It may yet have come at a cost for the battles ahead with Mohamed Salah having injured his groin early in the contest and Virgil van Dijk being withdrawn with a muscle injury, but few in red would have swapped the red smoke that bathed their ecstatic end of Wembley for a fully fit squad with which to chase further glory. It may have meant another rotten final for the Egyptian but Liverpool will hope their swift action is enough to preserve his fitness for a chance to take revenge on both sides. It came at a cost to their attacking play with Reece James tucking in to deal with Diaz and Mason Mount tasked with tracking Robertson, on occasion leaving Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic to fend for themselves. With less than a quarter of the match played Thiago Silva was hobbling, Edouard Mendy stretching his legs in discomfort. That was a cruel fate on Thomas Tuchel and his players after what he noted had been "240 minutes of final time, played 0-0 against maybe the best attacking team in Europe," he said. Klopp might have a deeper squad to call on than he has at any stage in his tenure -- let alone in comparison with years gone by -- but that continues to be stretched. There is no rest for his key players at this stage of the season and yet in a never ending spree of matches they keep digging deep enough.

They built this team for many years now and this is where the gap is. "They arrive with everybody except Fabinho fresh and in a rhythm. In 2020-21 the Reds were knocked out in the Fourth Round by Manchester United and only went one game better the year before that. With very little separating the two teams once again, penalties seemed inevitable and Liverpool made fewer errors in the shootout to capture the trophy. The Blues ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Ramires and Didier Drogba. The team was already without influential Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who missed the match due to injury. The 2022 trophy will be especially memorable if Liverpool can succeed in pulling off an unprecedented quadruple of trophies. Penalties were needed at Wembley after Liverpool and Chelsea played 120 scoreless minutes, though it wasn't for lack of trying.

Díaz volvió a apuntar.

"Like in the last final, the League Cup, no regrets. Shortly after, Pulisic's pass gave Marcos Alonso a sight of goal, but Alisson was off his line quickly to deny the Chelsea defender. "We played 240 minutes in two finals against maybe the most dangerous attacking team in the world and it's 0-0. Liverpool were on top early with Luis Diaz a particular threat. The win was Liverpool's eighth in the 150-year history of the FA Cup, drawing them level with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal have won the most with 14. It was a carbon copy of the League Cup final in February, which Liverpool won 11-10 on penalties after that game also finished goalless.
Sometimes a miss really is as good as a mile. Wembley was a fevered place at the end of this gruelling, apparently endless FA Cup final.
Klopp finally has a toehold with domestic cups: this was his third in the last 10 years, his second in three months. And victory here will also speak to Paris, and that shot at the sun. There had been a sense that the thing Klopp has built needed a little filing at the edges. Scroll through the all-time lists and Liverpool’s greatest ever season is probably 1983-84, when they won the league, League Cup and European Cup. Three years previously they won a League Cup and European Cup double. As the Liverpool players capered at the eastern end of the ground, lost in a fog of red smoke, tumbling and rolling on the grass in front of a stand that seemed a single mess of limbs and light and noise, the contrast in the other half of the pitch was unavoidably stark. For 120 minutes Wembley had provided a point of intersection for these two clubs, roped together once again on this stage, chasing the late afternoon sun.
Jurgen Klopp labelled his Liverpool side “mentality monsters” after they defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Liverpool won their second cup final penalty.

Liverpool needs a favor from West Ham against Manchester City on Sunday but even if the league does elude the Reds, Paris at the end of the month could offer a glorious treble of cups. He was then removed for the lesser-spotted Ross Barkley, a bizarre sequence of events that in part meant defenders had to take penalties in the shootout. For Chelsea this was the end of an era. Mohamed Salah was forced off in the first half with a groin injury, and Virgil van Dijk made way at the end of normal time. But in each of the two cup finals, Liverpool has prevailed in penalty shootouts. That’s four major trophies now, with the possibility of two more to come this season.
How the 2022 FA Cup final was won and lost, a match in which Luis Diaz impressed for Liverpool but Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku struggled.
Van Dijk certainly had a lighter workload at the heart of the Liverpool defence before his departure. Jorginho briefly got a grip on things after the break, one elegant turn past Mane paving the way for one of several chances that fell to left wing-back Marcos Alonso. In the end, it was Liverpool's replacement left-back who provided the storybook moment. It proved to be his last act before making way for N'Golo Kante. The France international's best moment came early in extra time when he completed an inch-perfect tackle on the marauding Diaz. After Chelsea had Liverpool on their heels at the start of the second half, it was Diaz who looked to redress the balance, stepping away from Reece James and spinning around Mateo Kovacic to fizz a shot just wide. The Portugal forward made a dangerous run across the six-yard box to prod over from an Andy Robertson cross, proving Liverpool were not really any less threatening without Salah — a situation that would have felt unfathomable a few months ago.
