Troyes look safe after holding PSG (LFP)

ESTAC Troyes all but guaranteed their top-flight status with a 2-2 draw against champions Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night.

Florian Tardieu duly grabbed the ball and lifted a Panenka penalty beyond Navas to level the scores at 2-2 (49'). Achraf Hakimin thought PSG should have had a spot-kick of their own soon after, but after going down in the box from a Moulin challenge his claim was waved away by referee Jérôme Brisard (54'). Paris had the ball I the Troyes net once again when Neymar raced in on goal and found the bottom corner, but Mbappé had handballed in the build-up and it was ruled out (57'). Paris poured on the pressure from there but struggled to find a way through - Messi hitting the bar late on (90'+2) the closest they came - and Troyes held on for a share of the points which leaves them with a six-point cushion on the relegation play-off place with only six points left to play for. Troyes punished PSG's profligacy soon after the restart, after Ripart was fouled by Presnel Kimpembe in the box. Troyes lined up with a defensive 5-3-2 at the Parc des Princes, but Angel Di Maria still managed to find plenty of space in behind left-back Yasser Larouci, and he tested Jessy Moulin with a curling effort early on (5'). When Di Maria wasn't shooting he was crossing from the same position, and his wicked delivery led to PSG's opener, with Marquinhos effectively miscontrolling the ball beyond Moulin for 1-0 (6'). A loose Marco Verratti pass might have let Troyes back into the game, but Renaud Ripart pulled his effort wide from the edge of the box (10'). Instead, PSG pulled further clear when Neymar Jr. stepped up to convert a penalty which Kylian Mbappé had earned from Erik Palmer-Brown (25'). The hosts should have been in cruise control from there, but another poor bass at the back - this time from Nuno Mendes - allowed Iké Ugbo in on goal, and he struck firmly into Keylor Navas's bottom corner (30'). Lionel Messi then found the side-netting from another Di Maria cross (32') before Neymar saw a goal ruled out for offside (36') and it was 2-1 at the break.

PSG 2-2 Troyes: Player ratings as Ligue 1 champions draw again (90min)

Angel Di Maria began the game very brightly and, soon after forcing Jessy Moulin ...

A very watchable first half refused to peter out, as Pochettino's men reassumed their celebratory state in the 37th minute. Ike Ugbo was the grateful recipient, taking a woeful square pass from Nuno Mendes in his stride and thrashing a rasping effort into Keylor Navas' bottom corner. They were once again made to rue their lack of clinical edge when Kylian Mbappe raced past his man into the penalty area and waited for Erik Palmer-Brown to clumsily lunge in and bring him down. LW: Neymar - 7/10 - Left a fair bit to be desired with his defensive support but visibly grew in confidence after tucking the ball away from 12 yards, subsequently expressing himself and drawing countless fouls. CF: Lionel Messi - 6/10 - Provided a sporadic spark throughout but never really got going - was desperately unlucky to hit the woodwork in either half, though. CB: Marquinhos - 7/10 - Typically alert and positionally competent to provide an imposing defensive presence, and added a very nonchalant finish to break the deadlock.

French champions PSG held to Ligue 1 draw (7NEWS.com.au)

French champions Paris Saint-Germain have thrown away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with 15th-placed Troyes in Ligue 1.

PSG pushed for the win as Neymar had an effort chalked off by VAR after Mbappe was found to have pushed off a defender in the build-up and Marquinhos was only inches away from a second goal as he put an 84th minute header wide. Kylian Mbappe was brought down in the opposing penalty area to allow Neymar to double the score with a 25th minute spotkick. It was third successive draw for PSG, who secured the Ligue 1 title a fortnight ago, and a precious point for Troyes, now six points clear of the relegation places with two games left to play in this campaign.

Neymar on target as Paris Saint-Germain held at home by Troyes ... (Eurosport.com)

Troyes earned an impressive 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain to all but secure their place in Ligue 1 for next season.

Troyes defended deep on occasion but they were also able to play the ball out of danger confidently and not resort (too often) to desperate long clearances. At a certain point in the second half, it seemed as though Di Maria had grown frustrated at his teammates' failure to convert the chances he was creating and began running through the opposition instead. Troyes: Jean Moulin made five saves in the draw against PSG. He also made three aerial catches. More than once he had seemingly conjured a promising counter only to look around and find no supporting runners. Renaud Ripart won a penalty when his clever footwork left Presnel Kimpembe grasping in desperation. Angel Di Maria was, not for the first time this season, on another level to most of his teammates.

It would obviously be a shocking deal for the Frenchman, who so far does not have an extension agreement with the Red Devils as they embark on the Erik ten Hag era. While ten Hag has not told lies about his contract with Manchester United, there are no clauses prohibiting transfers between Man United and Ajax in the summer. It's a $42.12 million (40 million euros) investment which will go to Sporting CP. Mendes has already put pen to paper with his contract signature in place. It is not yet time for the decision for Kylian Mbappé. French publications have been reporting that the Paris Saint-Germain superstar has an imminent agreement for a contract extension to stay put with the club, but the reality is that Mbappé is still reflecting his options. In Spain, Real Madrid will soon have Antonio Rüdiger's signature over their paperwork with an agreement until June 30, 2026. We're inching closer toward the end of the club season, which means we're only a few weeks away from the transfer window opening.
