James Harden Reminds Everyone What He Can Do (Sports Illustrated)

Harden's stepback threes in Game 4 had a feeling of inevitability not felt since his time with the Rockets.

The Heat head back to Florida with the series tied after the 76ers flexed their defensive chops and showed off their offensive firepower in a pair of home victories. Miami held a commanding 2-0 lead when the series shifted to Philadelphia. Embiid had yet to play, Harden was showing few signs of life and Green was 2-14 from three. Now that Danny Green and Harden seem to have found their stroke, there’s added pressure on Strus, Herro, Lowry and Tucker—all of whom shot north of 37% from three in the regular season—to connect from deep. Harden managed just two second-half points in the Game 2 win after scoring 15 in the first. It was the full Harden experience that Daryl Morey signed up for when he shipped off Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and two firsts to Brooklyn with a championship duo in mind. James Harden was relentless in the fourth quarter of Game 4.

... Lowry, who scored his first bucket of the series on a layup, went to the locker room in the first half with a balky hamstring. He hit a layup, was nailed in the face by Embiid — who was whistled for a flagrant, then helped his former teammate to his feet — and Butler made the free throw. Butler drew Embid’s third foul with 1:37 left in the third and converted the three-point play that pulled the Heat within four. Butler scored 17 points in the third, yet the Heat still trailed 89-85. Butler kept the Heat in the game with six straight points. He missed his first four shots of the game until he buried a 3 and then got rolling. The Sixers made nine 3s in the half to Miami’s four. The Heat won the first two games in Miami with Embiid out with a right orbital fracture and mild concussion. Worn out in Game 3 from days of inactivity because of the concussion, Embiid played all 12 minutes in the quarter. Embiid worked out the Game 3 cobwebs and returned to the dominant form that earned him season-long "MVP!" chants from the Philly diehards. The Heat pecked away at the lead and got within five until Harden sank his fifth 3-pointer of the game with three minutes left. PHILADELPHIA - James Harden took a sensational step forward in the postseason for the 76ers with step-back 3s that rekindled his dominant form.

The series is tied 2-2. The Sixers win Game 4 116-108. They just have fewer ways of generating points in the final minutes than the Sixers do. One solution to issues vs. 76ers: Make more threes. Why the Heat ... (Miami Herald)

The Miami Heat knows its three-point shooting will need to be better to win its second-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In their two wins since, the 76ers are 32 of 66 (48.5 percent) from three-point range. One of the Heat’s most accomplished and best three-point shooters spent games 3 and 4 on the bench, though. It seemed like Philly was saying the same thing in the two games in Miami. We’re saying the same thing here.” Miami has made just 14 threes in the last two games. But that ignitability, that can change in a hurry.” That left Miami shooting a combined 14 of 65 (21.5 percent) from beyond the arc in the two losses. But Miami doesn’t have much time to rely on the math correcting itself, though, because this is now a best-of-three series. “You mentioned Duncan. But the same thing with Max, the same thing with Tyler, Gabe. They see a couple go down, that could turn into four, five, six like that. During this two-game shooting struggle, Miami has taken just nine corner threes and 5.2 percent of its shots have been from that area of the court. In fact, the past two games can be considered the outlier. The Heat has definitely missed some three-point shots it usually makes, but Philadelphia also deserves credit for taking away some of the looks that Miami is used to getting. But after dropping games 3 and 4 at Wells Fargo Center to allow the Philadelphia 76ers climb out of a 2-0 hole to tie the second-round series 2-2, the Heat returns to Miami knowing it must make more threes to bounce back in a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday (7:30 p.m., TNT) at FTX Arena.
