Miller leads Rangers to win over Phillies (Daily Ardmoreite)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Brad Miller hit a two-run single in the 10th inning to give the Texas Rangers a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday ...

“We just have some guys that aren’t really clicking the way I think they’re going to through the course of the season,” Philadelphia manager Joe Girardi said. It looked like the Phillies had gotten on the board in the sixth when Castellanos lined Perez’s first pitch to right. The Rangers begin a three-game series at New York Yankees on Friday night. Texas’ Adolis Garcia started the extra frame on second base and went to third on Kole Calhoun’s flyout to deep right. Pinch-hitter Nick Solak struck out before Miller lined a 1-0 slider from Brad Hand (1-1) to right to score Garcia and White. Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler and the Rangers’ Martin Perez each were stellar in starting roles.

Mark Madden: Goaltending leaves Penguins at grave disadvantage ... (TribLIVE)

A good story does not equate to a good player. Don't confuse the two. Louis Domingue is a good story. He's the first goalie to enter a playoff game during ...

The goals came from Guentzel and Crosby. That line has four of the Penguins’ five even-strength goals on the series and provides most of their sustained pressure. • The Penguins need to get offense from somebody besides the line of Crosby, Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust. The Penguins put 41 shots on Shesterkin on Thursday, but serious threats were few. • The Penguins must get a lead. Letang and Matheson were not nearly as good in Game 2 as they were in Game 1. The drop from DeSmith to Domingue isn’t that drastic. There’s no way to imagine that the goaltending battle goes the Penguins’ way. It doesn’t just need to get better. The Penguins did their best, too. Ultimately, that figures to decide the series and applies even if Casey DeSmith returns. Shesterkin is the presumptive Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s top goaltender. But they scored twice, and that’s not enough. He’s played for six NHL teams and seven minor-league teams.

2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs: New York Rangers Bounce Back ... (Blueshirt Banter)

During Game 1's loss, the Rangers had a 10.1% rating, lost the expected goals battle 7.58 to 3.75 in all situations, and 6.63 to 3.43 at 5v5. Igor Shesterkin ...

- All of that said, Game 3 is where the Rangers need to make their next push and take a game just like Pittsburgh did in Game 1. Do you really think the Rangers’ most important player intentionally put himself in a situation where he could potentially get injured, and removed from the series? - And for the “he stuck his leg out” people... Shesterkin is in the trapezoid, the only place behind net the goalie can go without being assessed a penalty to play the puck. It is important for them to find a balance, and in time they will. Why is the onus on him to divert from his path here? - There also was a rare muffed shot on one-timer attempt from one of the circles which otherwise would have resulted in a goal. Right now Igor is playing with a ton of confidence and swagger, and looks like he is locked in to make a major run. K’Andre Miller picked up his second assist, and it was nice to see him getting involved in the offense. Kakko has looked particularly strong along the boards moving his feet, and the Penguins have bounced off him for the most part. That’s the main play that comes to mind.— Vince Z. Mercogliano (@vzmercogliano) May 6, 2022 Artemiy Panarin, who looked off in Game 1, picked up the primary assist and Justin Braun grabbed a secondary helper.

Series tied 1-1. Series tied 1-1. Series tied 1-1. Series tied 1-1. Series tied 1-1. Series tied 1-1. The Predators remain without top goaltender Juuse Saros, who is sidelined by a lower-body injury but could be back later in the series. He allowed MacKinnon's goal on the first shot of the game and turned back everything until Makar's goal. It was just Florida's sixth win in its last 19 home playoff games going back to 1996, and matched the biggest victory margin in franchise playoff history. Guentzel got the rebound of a shot by Marcus Pettersson in front and fired a slap shot past Shesterkin at 8:52. Shesterkin stopped a tip by Bryan Rust and then made a diving save to deny a slap shot by Evgeni Malkin in the opening minute of the period. Shesterkin also stopped a slap shot by Guentzel 3 1/2 minutes in and then had a diving save on Crosby's deflection nearly 30 seconds later.

We get that late one and we had some really good chances early in the third and didn’t convert, and they got a bounce. “We have to play better, stronger hockey in our D zone.” “It was for (Jacob) Trouba, I was trying to get the pass to him,” Panarin said through a translator. “It’s not something we want to make a habit of. “When we were in our end zone I thought we defended hard. “It’s an 82-game regular season and we’ve done it all regular season long,” Gallant said.

Brian Boyle and Jeff Carter Struggling to Keep Up vs. Rangers (Sports Illustrated)

The Pittsburgh Penguins fell 5-2 to the New York Rangers in Game 2 of the first round, evening the series 1-1. For the second-straight game, it seemed as if ...

Unfortunately, the Penguins aren't exactly full of players with recent and extensive experience at the center position. Evan Rodrigues stepped into that role early in the season but has played much better on the wing this season. O'Connor played in his first career playoff game last night and, despite only playing under seven minutes, was able to show off the positives of him being in the lineup. Once Jason Zucker inevitably returns to the lineup, Boyle should be scratched in favor of a player like Drew O'Connor. The Penguins have been lucky to get great performances from Brian Boyle and Jeff Carter for stretches of this season. However, in this series, Boyle seems to be a step behind the quick-footed New York Rangers.

Report: Barclay Goodrow out for rest of Rangers series vs Penguins ... (Forever Blueshirts)

New York Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow is out for the rest of the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Plus other injury updates.

In 10:28 of ice time, Hunt was physical registering 3 hits and was hard on the forecheck. On the Penguins front, Casey DeSmith had core muscle surgery and is out for the season. Goodrow, 29, had a great first season with the Rangers after a trade and sign in the summer. “He’s a big player and we’re going to miss him,” said Jacob Trouba. “We love the depth of our team. Remember, Goodrow played with a broken hand in the Stanley Cup Final last season to give the Lightning their second straight championship. They came into the game looking to even the series and down two key players.

Penguins' Casey DeSmith done for Rangers series after surgery (New York Post)

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said goalie Casey DeSmith will miss the remainder of the postseason after undergoing core muscle surgery Friday morning.

The 30-year-old Domingue allowed five goals on 40 shots in the Rangers’ 5-2 victory in Game 2 at the Garden. With regular-season starter Tristan Jarry sidelined with a broken foot, Domingue relieved DeSmith and made 17 saves in the series opener before Evgeni Malkin netted the game-winner in triple overtime. NY Rangers preparing for life without Barclay Goodrow, but Tyler ... (The Journal News / Lohud.com)

Barclay Goodrow is believed to have suffered a broken left ankle, while injured forward Tyler Motte resumed skating this week.

But with top-four defenseman Ryan Lindgren unable to play in Game 2 due to a lower-body injury, the value of trading for Braun became more apparent. But he's played fine," Gallant said of Braun. "He goes in there and he's an experienced guy. Domingue has performed admirably through two appearances so far in the series, stopping 52 of the 57 shots he's faced for a .912 save percentage. "He's playing his offside (left) and it's a little tougher to do, obviously. That leaves third-stringer Louis Domingue as the de facto starter, at least until Jarry is ready to return. Gallant usually preferred Patrik Nemeth and rookie Braden Schneider for his bottom pair, which was the arrangement in Game 1 against the Penguins. "There’s a chance for him in this series." A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Goodrow was supposed to be one of the players Gallant could rely on come playoff time. He would likely replace Hunt (or Ryan Reaves) on the fourth line whenever he's available. He's a big part of what we do and his attitude – his energy – is still around the rink. But now he's going to miss significant time. He can play anywhere, any position, and he’s a character guy – a leader."

Igor Shesterkin Continues to Easily Justify Rangers Extension (Front Office Sports)

New York signed him to a four-year, $22.7M contract before the season. Shesterkin led the NHL regular season in save percentage (.935) and GAA (2.07).

Shesterkin — who also finished fifth in Calder Trophy voting last season — will almost certainly win his first major trophy when the Vezina results are announced. After making 79 saves in the epic Game 1 — the second-most in postseason history — Shesterkin followed up with 39 during the Rangers’ 5-2 Game 2 win over the Penguins. The 118 combined saves are tied for second-most in the first two games of a series since the NHL began tracking the stat (1955-56). After a regular season in which he was arguably the NHL’s best goaltender, Igor Shesterkin hasn’t disappointed in his first Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Rangers’ primary starter.

And I think there’s some more than others, obviously, there’s always guys on teams that haven’t played — have zero to very little experience in the playoffs — and I think it’s just the guys that haven’t played much in the playoffs. "I don't want to say that because they've got two other lines that are good lines too," Gallant said. "Obviously it's important to put the puck in the net," Penguins forward Teddy Blueger said. But Motte has been out since April 9 and Goodrow sustained a lower-body injury in Game 1 that is expected to sideline him the rest of the series. "There have been a number of scoring chances throughout our lineup." "I don't think you're going to be able to get them to zero. It's always a tendency to do a little too much when you focus on one guy or whatnot, but it's just trying to limit their chances as much as we can.
