Our data shows they are eighth in the qualifying simulations and sixth in the race pace charts. And there was more frustration on Friday in Miami as Valtteri Bottas lost the car in FP1 and spun rearwards into the barriers. But it was less good on the other side of the garage, as Carlos Sainz crashed early when running the softs in FP2 – having showed very strong pace on the medium tyres. Our data shows they are just a fraction off the best qualifying simulations and second overall in the race pace rankings behind Ferrari. Verstappen managed just a handful of laps in FP1, spending most of the session in the garage as they looked to cure an overheating gearbox. And the hottest conditions of the year helped ease their pain getting the tyres up to temperature for a single lap.

Developing sports and business together, "while we generate fun for our sporting audience," will always be the goal – whether Formula 1 is planting its flag in the United States or elsewhere. The Las Vegas Grand Prix is on the schedule in 2023. This is a period of transition, he believes, in which figuring out the proper balance is still being managed. You can enjoy a sport for the athleticism, or in terms of motorsport, the technical prowess, all manner of things – but I think the thing that keeps everybody hooked is the storyline part of it.” Domenicali said he doesn't like hearing people say, "but that is not Formula 1." And that’s the beauty between the connection of the American community and Formula 1. And I think that’s the biggest thing in any sport. Liberty has concentrated efforts on the youth market, Taylor said. We bring that together, and this is something that is super-positive.” "Suddenly, for many reasons of course, now it seems that the interest in Formula 1 has never been so high." According to ESPN, the U.S. rights-holder, 963,000 viewers tuned in to the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final installment of the 2021 season and the Max Verstappen (Red Bull) vs. Embracing social media seems to have heightened the attachment.

What will the crowd be like? What will the track be like? The Miami Grand Prix debuts this weekend and there seems to be equal parts curiosity and excitement ahead of the event. It's been absolutely buzzing today and is already crawling with celebrities — many of whom might normally only be seen on race day. •3h ago If Russell had shown outward signs of being frustrated, it’d be understandable. Never once does his demeanor suggest someone whose team is mired in a slump, its worst in a decade, and dealing with an underperforming car that is of no fault of the driver. •3h ago •3h ago Although portions of the Florida Turnpike are partially open over the duration of the race weekend, an area overlooking the circuit is completely shut down throughout. That was a big one but I am ok. The Netflix effect on Formula One's growth has been widely discussed to the point where it's practically cliche now.

In person they will be high and dry, but they will sit on a surface painted to make it look as if the boats appear on TV to be in a marina. And likely the teams have done all sorts of simulations to figure out tire wear, etc., using a variety of different scenarios. But Daniel Ricciardo's disaster of a race that resulted in an 18th-place finish gives one pause. As for familiarity, drivers have been able to drive the computer simulation of the track to be more familiar with it when they finally get the chance really go at it, so that's a help. The track layout was chosen from 75 proposed (36 of which were then computer simulated) and it looks like it should provide for a fast, entertaining race with an average speed just under 140 mph. Sand has been brought in to replicate a beach, and boats are "moored" on trailers around a section of the track.

And in 2023, there will be three U.S. races with Las Vegas joining Austin and Miami. But beyond that, the U.S. has a rich history hosting F1 events, including the Indianapolis 500 once upon a time. And to perfect the ideal layout for the circuit, F1 and Apex Circuit Design created 36 different simulations before deciding on the current 19-turn track. The venue is in Miami Gardens, nearly encircles Hard Rock Stadium and includes much of the stadium’s surrounding parking area. Because Miami Gardens is so north of Miami and not particularly close to the coastline, event organizers had to get a bit creative in order to still have some type of marina/beach vibe at the race. So a fake marina was created, “filled” with fake water and dry-docked yachts. But he also explained the challenges for F1 drivers of a new track and how, like many other racers, they rely on simulators to prepare. On the first lap, or after Safety Car restarts, we may see some overtaking into Turn 4 if cars are racing through the first three corners.” After initially eyeing downtown Miami for this race, it ended up about 16 miles north of that area. It’s 5.41 kilometers long, or about 3.36 miles, and it features 19 turns, three straights and three DRS zones. It also has an estimated top speed of 320 kilometers per hour, or about 199 miles per hour, and the race is 57 laps. “It’s a bit nerve-racking because it’s going to be such huge event for us. So it’s going to be huge.”

Sebastian Vettel held court in Miami roundtable with a dozen climate change scientists, engineers, land use experts, and NGO activists.

Vettel noted in the discussion that he is aware that auto racing, with its emissions, opens him up to questions of hypocrisy. Vettel left after the discussion to rejoin his Aston Martin racing team. "We can be heading toward a world that can be so much better." And business entrepreneurs talked about harnessing technologies and the booming digital currency and assets trade to further bolster financing for other mitigation. When not behind the wheel of his Aston Martin team racing machine, Vettel is touting and championing efforts to address climate change. Like her U.S. women's soccer teammates, Abby Wambach, who played at the University of Florida, is outspoken about equal pay for women.

2022 Miami Grand Prix FP3 report and highlights: Perez leads ... (Formula 1 RSS UK)

Sergio Perez put Red Bull top of the charts in final practice for the Miami Grand Prix, with championship leader Charles Leclerc slotting into second.

Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu was 18th, ahead of Nicholas Latifi, with Ocon propping up the classification having failed to set a lap time. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel was one of a flurry of drivers to set their best lap in the closing stages as the track rubbered in. He did well to keep the car out of the barriers and end up third overall – Leclerc splitting the Red Bulls. But it wasn’t so good for Alpine team mate Esteban Ocon, who crashed at Turn 14, bringing out the red flag. Carlos Sainz clocked up the mileage, having lost a bunch of time in FP2 after he crashed at the chicane, and was seventh quickest, half a tenth of a second ahead of Kevin Magnussen. The Mexican clocked a 1m 30.304s on the soft tyres at the Miami International Autodrome, with his team mate Max Verstappen set to go quickest only to lock up on the run up to the chicane.

Formula One pictured a race in Miami and envisioned sun, sand, beaches and boats.

“Putting on a good first-year event is a challenge to get everything right, given the size and scale and newness to it,” Brown said. Attendance was capped at 85,000 a day in an attempt to create a high-end experience void of long concession waits and freedom to roam the massive grounds. Miami is the 11th different venue to host an F1 race in the United States, but the series had struggled to gain traction in the country until late. It took years for COTA to grow, and behind the "DTS" mania last year's race in Austin drew more than 300,000 over three days. “Formula One is all around, the amount of guest requests we have is amazing. Some teams were upset Friday over the guest experience inside the Paddock Club, which cost $11,000 for a three-day pass. The U.S. went four years without an F1 event before Circuit of America's in Austin, Texas, brought the European series back to the States in 2012. The event is the hottest ticket in sports right now. So, I think putting on a great event, and then having it be sustainable over decades — I don’t say it’s easy to do, but clearly it can be done. It can be found at the corner of NW 27th Ave. and NW 199th St. in Miami Gardens, a land-locked neighborhood some 15 miles away from F1's initial desired downtown location. It isn't exactly Monaco, but the man-made marina is a 25,000-square-foot dry dock designed to look like water. Hard Rock has hosted Super Bowls, college playoff games, a major tennis tournament, international soccer, concerts and the "Rolling Loud" musical festival.
