Chuck Todd's 'Meet The Press Daily' Jumps From MSNBC to ... (Variety)

Todd has embraced digital opportunities for several years now, including co-anchoring newscasts about recent midterm elections for NBC News' streaming outlets.

This is the second move of “Meet The Press Daily” in two years. MSNBC in 2020 shifted the show to early afternoons from a perch at 4 p.m. to make room for an expansion of Nicolle Wallace’s afternoon program, now a mainstay of the network. Part of the appeal of CNN+, or so executives believed, was a passel of live, daily programs that they hoped would keep subscribers making regular visits to the service. Todd’s streaming program will be called “Meet The Press Now.” Chris Jansing, the NBC News veteran, will take over his 1 p.m. hour on MSNBC. On Saturday, MSNBC will launch a new program led by Symone Sanders, the former Democratic campaign aide and press advisor to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. MSNBC is expected to do something similar with Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary who on Thursday announced she would be leaving her role. She is expected to debut a program on MSNBC after taking a break of several months.

“Since our launch, we’ve been committed to delivering the best of NBC News’ journalism, free, to streaming audiences everywhere. “NBC News is the leader in streaming news,” NBC News president Noah Oppenheim said in a statement. The shift of Chuck Todd's daily program is a sign that the network believes streaming news needs to be free for consumers.

But NBC News executives say the move is more about having its news content on a free platform. Todd, who is political director of NBC News, has been moderator of “Meet the Press” since 2014. The daily version has aired on MSNBC since 2015.

NBC News President Noah Oppenheim said in a statement that “since our launch, we’ve been committed to delivering the best of NBC News’ journalism, free, to streaming services everywhere. That got analysts buzzing about the market for news streaming offerings. Todd has been anchoring Meet the Press Reports, a weekly show that focuses on a single topic, and he co-anchored NBC News Now’s election night special last year. Tom Llamas joined NBC News last year, and has been hosting a nightly news 7 PM cast, while Hallie Jackson launched a 5 PM show last year. It averaged 681,000 total viewers in April, according to Nielsen. Fox News’ America Reports has won the slot, drawing an average of 1.6 million over its two-hour time frame, while CNN posted 776,000 for CNN Newsroom with Ana Cabrera. The show moved to it early afternoon timeslot in 2020.

NBC Demotes Chuck Todd -- Again (OutKick)

NBC is moving Chuck Todd's program Meet the Press Daily from MSNBC to the streaming service NBC News NOW, the network announced Friday. In June, NBC will.

The website Mediaite frequently tracks the liberal outrage that Todd ignites when he criticizes Democratic strategy and the Biden Administration during Meet the Press. Todd previously hosted Meet the Press Daily at 5 pm, a slot that draws much higher viewership numbers. And that includes brands far more notable than NBC News NOW, a service few cable viewers heard of before today.

"Rachel Maddow hosting one day a week… "The current MTP Daily show team will have the opportunity to apply for and follow Chuck to NBC News NOW," an NBC spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "Meet the Press Daily" will be moved to NBC News NOW in early June and renamed "Meet the Press NOW," which will stream live at 4pm ET. There is no indication that this will affect NBC's Sunday flagship program "Meet the Press," which is moderated by Todd. The 1 p.m. ET timeslot will be filled by longtime MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing. The network said "no jobs will be lost around this transition."

Chuck Todd's MSNBC Show Suffers Major Downgrade (PopCulture.com)

MSNBC just moved Meet the Press with Chuck Todd from its network platform to its streaming platform, and some fans see this as a major downgrade.

However, NBC's press release highlights the accomplishments of NBC News NOW and its growth over the last three years. NBC News NOW is an ad-supported streaming platform that is available across a wide aray of hardware and software. The show was named MTP Daily for much of that time, but will now reportedly go by the name Meet the Press NOW to match the branding of the rest of the streaming service.
