Donning a protective face mask, Joel Embiid looked and acted the role of superhero on Friday night.
"It's been like that for his entire career. Tyler Herro was the team's second-highest scorer with 14 points, with nobody else reaching double digits. "It was a struggle," Embiid admitted. "He's a soldier. "Really because of the concussion and dealing with a bunch of symptoms, but I'm glad it went away and I'm glad that I'm back." "Just the attention that he demands is great for us, and just a testimony to his will and to his want to win."
Former UNC basketball standout Danny Green put together a strong performance to help lead the 76ers to a much-needed playoff victory over Miami.
To add to that, Philadelphia was able to get past a rather disappointing performance from James Harden, who had more turnovers (seven) than shots made (four). This lack of production from Green hurt the 76ers, especially with star player Joel Embiid sidelined due to injury. The former Tar Heel finished with a team-high 21 points en route to helping the 76ers take home a decisive 20-point victory at home.

With a convincing 99-79 victory, the Sixers picked up their first win of the second round. The Sixers struggled to garner and maintain leads in the first two outings of the series, but Friday night’s matchup was a different story. However, the Sixers continued producing for themselves as well as they drained 56-percent of their shots for 27 points. Once again, Sixers guard James Harden controlled the offense well as he scored 15 points in his first 19 minutes on the court. In the first ten minutes of action, Embiid’s presence gave the 76ers a huge boost. After participating in a morning shootaround session on Friday, the Sixers upgraded Embiid from out to doubtful.

In addition to that defensive impact, Embiid's return generated a tangible buzz at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night, and the team clearly fed off of that energy. No team has ever come back from 0-3, and the first two games provided little evidence that the Sixers would have been able to win a game against the Heat without Embiid. "I just thought about what I was gonna do to make sure I was back at any point in the series. In Game 2, that ballooned to 125.3. On Friday night, their team defensive rating was 89.8. Again, the Embiid effect. "I feel like I pride myself, really, defensively," Embiid said after the game. So that's one of the main reasons why playing [tonight], I thought I could have a huge impact." You could call that the "Embiid effect." It's not a coincidence that Philadelphia made more 3s in Game 3 than in Games 1 and 2 combined (14). Embiid himself shot just five of 12 from the floor, but he got to the foul line and converted eight of his 10 attempts. In the second game he posted a similar stat line: 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists. As if being fresh off of a concussion and operating with a broken face wasn't enough, the MVP finalist is also still playing with a torn ligament in his thumb that will require surgery after the season. Such a laundry list of injury issues would keep a lot of players in street clothes on the sideline, but Embiid was out on the court, giving it his all, and his presence proved pivotal. On the other end, he was even more devastating.

The five-time All-Star's return allowed Philly to bounce back with a 99-79 win that suggests it's set to become a long, competitive series after all. "You add Jo to any team, home or away, the game, the scouting report, it changes drastically," Butler told reporters about Embiid's return. Butler and the Heat won the first two games by a combined 30 points with Embiid out of the lineup.

Embiid said he was cleared a day earlier and just the hope he could play had Philly buzzing. Embiid -- who led the 76ers with 30.6 points and 11.7 rebounds this season -- effected Game 3 just by his presence. The Heat went 4-0 without the former Villanova star. Embiid wasn’t the dominant force he was throughout the season and tired as the game went on. Butler led the Heat with 33 points. "You add Jo to any team, home or away, the game, the scouting report, it changes drastically," Butler said. Tyler Herro, though, had two critical 3s of his own in the final minute and pulled the Heat to 68-65 to close the third. Even Rivers couldn’t draw up a plan that included the play that helped put away the game: Maxey made a full-court sprint to save a basketball with an over-the-shoulder toss. "We have a good chance to win it all," Embiid said.

Ahead of their game against the Miami Heat, it's time to release our Philadelphia 76ers Game 4 predictions.
While Game 3 allowed Philadelphia to regroup as a cohesive team, it doesn’t mean that the rest of the series is smooth sailing. Finally, our boldest prediction yet: Sixers take Game 4 111-107 to tie the series 2-2. While most of his Game 3 stats were in the green, Harden also made a lot of mistakes. However, the Sixers’ Game 3 win wasn’t the cleanest. James Harden was undoubtedly more productive in Game 3 than he has been the rest of the series. The center put up 18 points, 11 rebounds, and one assist, along with a remarkable defensive outing in the win.

Entering Game 3, the 76ers had shot just 14-64 (21.9%) from three-point range. Even with an orbital fracture and a messed up thumb, Embiid’s defense on Bam Adebayo in Game 3 was stellar and because of his presence in the paint, Miami was not able to attack the basket as often as they did in the first two games in this series with Paul Reed and DeAndre Jordan on the court. Neither the 76ers nor the Heat were fast-paced teams during the regular season, as they both ranked amongst the bottom of the league in pace, but the Sixers were able to speed things up in Game 3 and the Heat almost looked flustered at times defensively, resulting in them rushing things offensively.

Now’s the time for the defending West champs to put the Mavericks on the brink of elimination in Dallas’ first trip past the first round since winning the title 11 years ago. — PRESSURE IS ON: The Heat. It's impossible not to imagine it could be the Sixers going for the sweep on Sunday had Embiid played in the first two games. — KEEP AN EYE ON: Deandre Ayton’s numbers were solid in Game 3 (16 points, 11 rebounds), but he wasn’t the force that helped the Suns cruise in the series opener. Then he came out of Game 3 with a little shadow under his left eye after a collision when he tried to block a dunk attempt from Mikal Bridges. Paul had 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the Suns’ lowest-scoring game of the season. Embiid is playing with a mask because of a right orbital fracture — and during breaks in action, he constantly lifted the mask and wiped sweat off his face — in the foreseeable future. — NEED TO KNOW: The 76ers held Miami to 79 points, the first time a playoff team scored fewer than 80 since the 2012 postseason. They also had a hard time getting shots for Paul and Booker. The pair combined for just 22 shots while two complementary scorers behind Doncic, Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock, attempted 21 3-pointers and made eight (four apiece). When it was revealed that Joel Embiid had an orbital fracture and a concussion on top of a torn ligament in his thumb, it seemed the Philadelphia 76ers big.
On Friday morning, Embiid was finally cleared out of the protocol. On Thursday, the Sixers ruled Embiid out for Game 3, which was set to take place on Friday. Fortunately, that status wasn’t permanent. When the 76ers traveled to Miami on Sunday, Embiid couldn’t make the trip.

All of that makes it a lot more interesting to follow Philly-Miami going into Sunday than Dallas-Phoenix, and that’s before you even get to the Mavericks being coached by Jason Kidd. That series is still Phoenix’s to lose. It’s also just as important to the 76ers that with Embiid back, James Harden doesn’t have any notions of being the top guy, and also Philadelphia can survive him turning the ball over seven times in a 20-point win. Miami scored under 20 points in three of the four quarters of Game 3 in Philadelphia, where Joel Embiid returned to the 76ers’ lineup.

Joel Embiid's final line in the box score looked a bit pedestrian compared to his usual MVP numbers. But the Philadelphia 76ers center played Game 3 anyway.

The Miami Heat's offense struggled in its Game 3 playoff loss to the 76ers. Erik Spoelstra, Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry spoke about what needs to be better.
The Heat finished the regular season with the NBA’s 11th-best half-court offense. Miami made 44.1 percent of those shots in the regular season. As a result of fewer opportunities around the rim, the Heat’s shot diet looked a lot different in Game 3. As expected on a night when the Heat scored fewer than 80 points, its half-court offense was bad. The Heat ended Game 3 with a rough offensive rating of 89.8 points scored per 100 possessions. A lot of that is because he takes away the rim. “We did not really work possessions,” coach Erik Spoelstra said, with the Heat watching film and working through some its offensive issues in practice Saturday in Philadelphia. “We had a lot of one-pass, zero-pass, quick shots that kind of fed into their momentum and weren’t totally intentional where we were getting the ball and we paid the price for that. We got to find a way to be better on that end of the floor. Miami is 10-19 this season when finishing a game with an offensive rating worse than 110 points scored per 100 possessions. Embiid, who missed the first two games of the series because of a right orbital fracture and mild concussion, returned and immediately provided elite rim protection for the 76ers. “I probably need to pass the ball a little bit more. In other words, simply a better than average offensive game usually results in a win for Miami.
Prior to Game 3, hopes for a deep playoff run seemed all but lose. However, with the return of Joel Embiid and the fact that the Philadelphia 76ers had a ...
The next two of the three games in this series will be in Philadelphia with the lone exception being Game 5. However, the best bet to do so is to win 3 straight and avoid a Game 7 in Miami. If they can steal Game 5 in Miami, then the Sixers would be up 3-2 in the series if they take care of home court in Game 4. Now if the Sixers are going to win this series, they will have to do in with three straight wins. The Sixers had control of this game early on and were able to expand that lead in the second half. As this series continues, Embiid should be able to play even better as he continues to heal and gets more use to playing with his “Phantom of the Process” mask.
