Point, Victor Hedman, and Brandon Hagel all said that anger fuelled them in Game 2. You have to do whatever you do to create an anger inside and a want," he said. "Let's think about that: what does it take to bounce back like that? The Lightning lost 14 times in those playoffs, and won the next game every time. You have to make it personal. "Just being short-handed as much as we were, especially when we got down, it was hard to really get our game going." Leafs veteran Wayne Simmonds was penalized twice in Game 2, with his post-whistle roughing minor leading to Kucherov's goal in the second period. "Too many penalties," Leafs winger Mitch Marner said when reflecting on the loss.

Morning After Thoughts: Tampa Bay evens the series, but they can ... (Raw Charge)

“Good” being operative word as the Lightning is better than what they've shown through two games. Game One was an anomaly, but Game Two still showed warts they ...

It’s why I feel this game was a step in the right direction, but it’s not the step that will win them this series. They succeeded in that endeavor, but they need to be better to win this series. Steven Stamkos (6’1” 193 lbs) attempts to move the 6’3’’ 205-lb center, but it does little as Vasilevskiy overcompensates to get a read on Marner’s shot before it’s redirected immediately. Toronto came out with much of the same speed and tenacity that overwhelmed the Lightning in Game One; the difference was Vasilevskiy reminding everyone why he’s become one of the best playoff goaltenders in recent memory—highlighted by this absurd save early in the second period to keep Tampa Bay’s lead secured. Hedman can see T.J. Brodie extending his stick to cut off the dump chance but tries to force the play instead. No. Does it give his teammates time to get back up the ice? As good as Ryan McDonagh has been for the Lightning since they acquired him at the 2018 trade deadline, he can’t make a mistake like this. Sergachev does a good job getting into position after McDonagh’s turnover, but there’s only so much he can do in this situation. Spearheaded by a dominant performance by Victor Hedman (a four-point night), Tampa Bay righted the ship. He also became the 22nd NHL goaltender in league history to win 50 playoff games and the seventh fastest to reach that milestone. He completed this in 83 postseason games (.602 winning percentage), which is one more than Patrick Roy and one less than Martin Brodeur. That’s some Hall-of-Fame company he’s in. Monday night was embarrassing, and they were determined to show Toronto who they were.

Mishkin's Extra Shift: Lightning 5, Maple Leafs 3 - Game 2 (Official site of the Tampa Bay Lightning)

They brought a high compete and defended well. They won the special teams battle. As Jon Cooper stated afterwards, their best players were their best players.

The Lightning went 3-7 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill. Brandon Hagel finished off an odd-man rush with a rebound goal at 1:33 of the third and Brayden Point tallied the Lightning's third power play goal of the game when he finished a chance from the slot at 5:38. Some sloppy play from the Lightning in the second half of the third created some late-game drama. A strong bounce-back performance, one that helped the Lightning even the series. That goal re-established a two-goal Lightning lead and took away much of the wind from Toronto's sails. Following a Tampa Bay icing, the Lightning worked the puck down the ice and tried to complete a full line change. Instead, Wayne Simmonds took a post-whistle high-sticking penalty on Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and the Lightning converted on their power play. At the end of that shift, the Lightning managed to get the puck out of their d-zone. Seconds later, Nikita Kucherov snapped a shot from the high slot past a screened Campbell and into the top of the net. T.J. Brodie hurried the puck up ice and Mitch Marner deflected it in on Vasilevskiy. As the fresh Lightning forwards were getting back into the d-zone, Vasilevskiy passed the puck to Ryan McDonagh in the corner. Just over a minute into the frame, the Leafs had a terrific offensive zone shift that culminated with a glorious chance for defenseman Timothy Liljegren. Vasilevskiy made back-to-back initial saves on Mark Giordano and Pierre Engvall. So he was in his butterfly position and on the ice when Liljegren fired a third shot from the slot. With the puck heading towards the upper corner of the net, Vasilevskiy reached up and snared it with his glove.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Odds, Pick, Prediction ... (BangTheBook)

The 2022 Stanley Cup goes on Friday, May 6, with the Eastern Conference First Round clash at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, so we have prepared the best.

I think the Lightning are a better defensive team than the Maple Leafs, so I lean toward the hosts in Game 3. Toronto trounced Tampa Bay 6-2 on April 4, while the Lightning routed the Maple Leafs 8-1 on April 21. The Lightning ranked sixth in the NHL in goals allowed per game (2.78). After just 5:38 of play in the third, the Maple Leafs trailed by four goals, while Marner and Alexander Kerfoot scored consolation goals down the stretch. The Toronto Maple Leafs were terrific in the opening clash of this series, holding the reigning champs to only 24 shots. The reigning champions bounced back in Game 2 and beat the Maple Leafs 5-3 as +115 moneyline dogs.

The Tampa Bay Lightning Rebound Big Time in Game Two - FL ... (FL Teams)

The game two win was a big step for the team going forward in the series. Kucherov is the catalyst for this Tampa Bay team and along with dishing out two assists, he showed that he can become a big time player as the playoffs move on. Brandon Hagel would start the scoring on a beautiful three on two opportunity to make the score 4-1. A flip was switched Wednesday night for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who were coming off a 5-0 blowout loss in game one. Lightning fans saw a big night from goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, who really helped the Bolts grab the 5-3 win. The scoring got kicked off when Victor Hedman scored with 1.4 seconds left in the first period.

Lightning's Ryan McDonagh is a Stanley Cup playoff mainstay (Tampa Bay Times)

The 32-year-old defenseman has made it to the postseason in each of his 12 seasons in the NHL.

“... It’s no secret why the team’s he’s on are successful in the playoffs.” The veteran blueliner, 32, spent his first seven seasons with the Rangers before he was traded to the Lightning in 2017-18. As the Lightning chase a third straight championship, McDonagh continues to play an integral role. He knows what it takes to win and how costly mistakes can add up, which is why he doesn’t make them a habit. “I’ve been around enough players that have missed the playoffs at times ... you know it’s not a great feeling.” But what McDonagh does do, year after year, is find his way into the Stanley Cup playoffs, where he always makes an impact.

Tampa Bay Lightning talent present a real and present danger. But ... (The Globe and Mail)

This weekend we'll see if the Toronto Maple Leafs can keep up the pace against a veteran team that has seen and done it all.

“We had a couple of days to regroup and look at what we did and what we do. The Lightning is a deep and talented team. It’s a fine line in the playoffs. He is a stinker by trade, and one of the best. In the two previous years he had 66 points during the playoffs. He chipped in with a goal and two assists. Auston Matthews has scored twice and assisted on three more. You have to earn every piece of the ice. The “big boys” have done it for some time now. He stops before he leaves the parking lot in Tampa to sign autographs for kids. “When we need somebody to step up our big boys have done it.” (Try to find a Swedish hockey player who isn’t.) He’s likeable, too.

The 2012 Maple Leafs - Lightning Blockbuster Trade That Wasn't (The Hockey Writers)

At the 2012 NHL trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning made a trade that could have been an overall blockbuster.

For a team needing a top defensive prospect, he was a perfect addition for the Lightning in 2012. No, what this is a reminder of is how difficult it is to acquire NHL-caliber talent, either in the draft, free agency, or through trades. It had the makings to be a win-win for all parties involved, with long-term roster implications for years to come. After posting 30 goals, 50 points, and 93 penalty minutes in the Western Hockey League (WHL) leading into his draft year, he was selected by the Lightning 29th overall (after they traded up) and was expected to become a focal point of their rebuild. Both Ashton and Aulie had top-end potential but had yet to put it all together at the NHL level. Every NHL trade has a story, from the biggest deadline blockbusters to the smallest depth moves to fill out an American Hockey League (AHL) roster.
