Igor Shesterkin's NHL playoff inexperience can be Rangers' asset ... (New York Post)

This will be pretty different for Shesterkin, who carries the hopes of the Rangers as they headed into Game 1 -- and that could turn into an advantage.

There’s a lot of people that want a piece of you and do this and do that and it all comes down to your personality, too. “He over-performs every single chance type that I looked at today and they’re really in line with what strengths Pittsburgh does have.” “Sometimes, you talk so much about experience — you need this and that to have success,” former Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist said on a video call Monday. “At times, you need it, but there’s a lot of times that it’s easier to go in fresh. Steve Valiquette recounted how Rangers goaltending coach Benoit Allaire would tell him and Lundqvist to keep their bubbles small — a way of dealing with the pressure that playing on Broadway brings. But in the end, it comes down to, be ready when you come to the rink.” Without a translator present, Shesterkin leaned back in his chair and spoke succinctly.

Willie Calhoun Requests a Trade From Rangers After Demotion (Just Baseball)

After being demoted at 27 years old, a change a scenery may be best for the former top prospect.

Willie could have a chance to fight for at-bats this year. Minnesota could be a place for Calhoun to get major league at-bats. Oakland seems like the perfect place for a late developer to thrive. Texas has given Calhoun every chance to succeed since his travels south, but he just cant get it together at the dish. But it has almost been the opposite of that in his major league years in Texas. This week the Rangers made a move that was a long time coming.

NY Rangers projected lineup: It's time to find out if the Blueshirts are ... (The Journal News / Lohud.com)

The rebuild will officially end when the puck drops Tuesday for the first playoff game at Madison Square Garden in five years.

But if they can overcome their inexperience and carryover their regular-season resilience, a sooner-than-expected arrival isn't out of the question. "If you win Game 1 of the first round, it doesn't mean you're winning the Stanley Cup," he said Sunday. "And if you lose Game 1, it doesn't mean you're going home in four. "We just have to do everything same like we did all year – in the locker room, at home, everywhere," Panarin said. Those moves established a core to surround holdovers Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, but team president Chris Drury recognized that the roster needed diversification. "I think we're as good as anybody in the playoffs and I think anybody in the playoffs can beat us. "I want us to keep playing the way the New York Rangers play," Gallant said on the eve of the Blueshirts' first playoff appearance in five years. Good luck getting him to talk about his own 52-goal breakout at age 30, but he beams with pride when discussing the rise of young players such as Adam Fox, Alexis Lafrenière and Igor Shesterkin. It also looks like they nailed the Braden Schneider pick later in the 2020 first round. He, along with offseason additions Barclay Goodrow and Ryan Reaves, are the only players expected to suit up in Game 1 with significant postseason experience. They're excited to compete and play." "When we start worrying about the other team and what they're going do to us, then you’re standing behind the eight ball and you're hesitating on the ice. And when it comes to his messaging, the focus is never on individual play or the opponent — it's always on the team.

Blueshirt Banter Roundtable: Rangers vs. Penguins Series Predictions (Blueshirt Banter)

The Stanley Cup Playoffs return to Madison Square Garden for the first time in five years, with a familiar foe.

For a lot of younger Rangers players, this is their first taste of the playoffs and they’re going up against the third-oldest team in the league with a lot of players who have Stanley Cup experience. Kevin: Sidney Crosby is still a goddamn monster and knows how to torment the Rangers in the playoffs. Roberto: I’m afraid of the Rangers stumbling out of the gate and playing a long, grueling series because of it. I picked the Rangers in five. I don’t know if I’ve ever picked the Rangers in five in my life. They are good enough to win at least a round, and Igor should help on that front, but how the kids respond and perform will impact the length of this series. He can will his team into being better than the sum of its parts in the playoffs. Crosby and Malkin going off is always a concern when playing the Penguins, even with both of them in their mid-30s (and older than me!). The Rangers will also need to be able to consistently generate enough offense at five-on-five, which has not always been easy for them this season. Jack: Goalies are voodoo, so picking them as the thing to be most confident about in a playoff series is probably asking for trouble. He brings depth and balance the Rangers sorely needed in the forward corps all year. Most of the staff here is pretty confident that the Rangers will win, as four writers have the Blueshirts winning in only five games. Joe and I have Artemiy Panarin. My personal thinking is that the Rangers’ improved defense since the trade deadline will hopefully mean they do not have to rely on Shesterkin to bail them out as he did for much of the season before the trade deadline.

Phillies vs. Rangers: Alec Bohm's defense costs Phils again (NBC Sports)

Alec Bohm continues to hit, but on Tuesday his defense again cost the Phillies dearly in a 6-4 loss to the visiting Texas Rangers. By Corey Seidman.

Bohm leads the Phillies in batting average (.322) and on-base percentage (.380). He pinch-hit in the ninth. They also got just three innings out of their starting pitcher and gifted the Phillies two early runs when Nick Solak misplayed a ball from Rhys Hoskins that went for a double in the first inning en route to an early Phils lead. Roman Quinn started in center field with Matt Vierling in right. He cruised in between those two bombs but caught too much plate with off-speed pitches to Garver and Heim. "You just encourage him and make sure he gets his work in. Kyle Schwarber popped out behind second base, then Bohm and Bryce Harper struck out to quell the threat. He got out of it with a Garver flyout. You've got to move on," Girardi said of Bohm's defense. Suarez has had to work much harder in his starts this season. The first was ruled an error, the second an infield single. "I've got to find a way to get over it before 6:45 tomorrow, come back and play another game.”

Tuesday night at the Garden, the fans hope that inexperience will rule the day in Rangerstown. With experience sometimes you think you have all the answers but you don’t. Garver, Heim homer, lead Rangers past Phillies 6-4 (ESPN)

PHILADELPHIA -- — Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim homered and Zach Reks snapped a tie game with a two-RBI double, leading the the Texas Rangers past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 on Tuesday night. Garver and Heim went deep off Phillies starter Ranger ...

Calhoun told the site: “I just respectfully asked them like, ‘If I’m not part of the future here with this team, is there any way that we can work out a trade or anything?’” Nick Castellanos was listed as the starting right fielder until he was scratched because his wife is expecting a baby. He was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day with a left knee sprain. Just to kind of have something I can build off of from here on out.” Bohm had entered 40 for 40 in total chances in the field since a three-error game April 11. Guys are starting to find their roles and you can see the bullpen really starting to throw the ball well. Suarez allowed five runs, three earned, in five-plus innings. Guys are starting to get comfortable out there and embracing the expectations.” Reks broke the tie with a pinch-hit, two-RBI double off reliever Seranthony Dominguez, and Marcus Semien’s RBI single made it 6-3. He was just 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA in two starts this season. Rhys Hoskins hit a low liner that bounced past diving left fielder Nick Solak for a two-RBI double. The lefty reliever simply buckled down: Pop up, punch out, punch out.
