He creates extra possessions for us and he has the experience that not many guys in this League have. They’re just timely, winning plays and he has a way of doing things that just inspires your whole team. “All year he has been our heart and soul," guard Tyler Herro said. It was those offensive rebounds, diving on the floor, really competing on the ball against one of the toughest covers in the league.” "Figuring out a way to win the game, that’s it.” “It is pretty much my job.

The Miami Heat got a big win Monday in Game 1 of their second-round NBA Playoff series. Along the way, P.J. Tucker played a heck of a hard-working game.

Heat, Sixers Open Second-Round Series (Sports Illustrated)

This Monday in sports marks the start of the NHL playoffs, and it's hard not to love playoff hockey. Four Game 1s get the NHL's postseason underway tonight, ...

With April in the rearview mirror, this series pits the two best teams in the American League from the first month of the season. And with Devin Booker back healthy, the Suns again look like a favorite to get back to the NBA Finals. Can Luka Dončić and the Mavs present a roadblock on that path? It took more work than anticipated, but the Suns survived the Pelicans in six games to advance to the second round. Just one of SI’s NBA staffers is picking the Sixers to pull the upset in this series, which tips off tonight in South Beach. A big reason for the skepticism in Philly’s chances is the status of Joel Embiid, who’s expected to be out for at least the first two games of the series and perhaps longer with a concussion and orbital bone fracture. With an experienced core and one of the better scoring units in the league, Boston could make this series with Carolina interesting with an upset win on the road. This Monday in sports marks the start of the NHL playoffs, and it’s hard not to love playoff hockey.

As the Heat outscored Philadelphia 56-41, they collected a convincing 106-92 lead to open up the second-round series. James Harden, who ran the offense without Embiid around, scored just 16 points off of 13 shots. When the fourth quarter rolled around, Miami's young standout Tyler Herro came alive and rallied for eight of his 25 total points. As Sixers' forward Tobias Harris hit on four of his eight shots for ten points in 12 minutes, the Sixers garnered a small lead before halftime. Miami's Bam Adebayo and Gabe Vincent combined for 16 of the Heat's 30 third-quarter points. Unfortunately, fatigue started to set in, and shots weren't falling.

Philadelphia 76ers look to answer back with a win in Game 2 vs ... (Sir Charles In Charge)

The Miami Heat took down the Philadelphia 76ers 106-92 in Game 1. Can the Sixers find a way to win without their star player, Joel Embiid?

Can the Sixers find a way to win, or is Miami no match for them without Embiid? The 76ers need their star players to take on the challenge and answer back in Game 2. That was the kind of game that they needed from Harris, but a poor shooting night from deep really held Philly back. Not having Joel Embiid is a huge loss, but they need to dig deep if they want their playoff hopes alive. The 76ers are going to need a stellar performance in Game 2 if they want to win. Like the 76ers, Miami had a rough night from deep, going 9-36, or 25 percent. Philly shot 43 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line, both solid averages for a team. I expect Maxey to step up and have a much bigger impact offensively in Game 2. They need more scoring from Maxey and Harden, along with the rest of the team contributing however they can. Every game is crucial in a seven-game series. The Miami Heat took care of business in Game 1 vs. Philly is a different team when he is not playing, and the Heat took advantage of that.

Heat's P.J. Tucker makes big Game 1 impact with defense, effort ... (Miami Herald)

P.J. Tucker impressed in the Heat's Game 1 win over the 76ers to start the second round of the playoffs with his offensive rebounds and defense on James ...

In addition, Tucker was one of the Heat players who was tasked with picking up Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young full court in the first round. In the playoffs with Jordan, you could see it in his eyes with his passion and how much he loves it and how much he turns into a killer with that killer instinct. Defense and relentless efforts all over the court is what he has become known for. “He has been on the same team as James, so he knows his tendencies better than anybody on our team,” Adebayo said. But according to NBA tracking stats, Harden was limited to just five points on 2-of-3 shooting and committed three turnovers in 29 possessions with Tucker as his primary defender. Miami has outscored opponents by an absurdly dominant 24.9 points per 100 possessions with Tucker on the court this postseason. Picking up 94 feet is not easy in the NBA, especially playing 30 minutes a game and doing that and sacrificing your body for that. Tucker had one of those performances in Game 1 on Monday night, as the Heat defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 106-92 at FTX Arena to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-7 second-round playoff series. ▪ Vincent then missed another three-pointer and Tucker fought off 76ers forward Tobias Harris long enough to allow for Bam Adebayo to grab the offensive rebound. “There’s really a timeliness to his winning plays. “Everybody just feels an added inspiration and life from what he does out there. “My whole life, the playoffs as a kid, just not missing a game,” the 36-year-old Miami Heat forward said to the Miami Herald. “My whole life, you just see everybody’s game elevate.

Miami Heat comes alive in second half, blitzes 76ers to win opener ... (Miami Herald)

The Miami Heat began the second half of on a 48-28 run to roll to a Game 1 victory.

Then we just were able to get a little bit more organized in the second half and defensively we really picked up the intensity, but we did it with a little bit more thought and a little bit more discipline and then there were inspiring offensive rebounds and extra possessions. “If we keep them on their heels, they’re going to fold.” While Adebayo, Herro, Tucker and Vincent were rolling, Harden scored just four points on 1 for 4 shooting after halftime. That wasn’t surprising considering that with Jordan on the court this season, Philadelphia permitted 119.6 points per 100 possessions. Adebayo and Vincent each had eight points in the third. “We can beat this team,” forward Paul Reed said. That was P.J., Bam, both of those guys again were just terrific.” For a while, this was a night Miami missed Kyle Lowry’s playmaking and scoring, with Lowry still sidelined by a hamstring injury. “The turnovers, we were just a little bit disjointed. “They trapped, they pressed. Blitzed by a big Philadelphia run that gave the 76ers their first lead of the night just before halftime, the Heat raised its intensity - and its execution - to a far higher level in the third quarter, outscoring Philadelphia 18-7 to take an eight-point lead after three, and then stampeding the 76ers in the fourth. Meanwhile, the Heat’s defense, victimized off the dribble in the first half, stiffened in man-to-man and weaved in effective doses of zone to stymie the 76ers in the second half.

The Miami Heat got a good showing from their sixth man on Monday, Tyler Herro. So much so, that their best player, Jimmy Butler, didn't have to play late.

The Miami Heat allowed Philadelphia to get back in the game in the first half at the mercy of their own mistakes. That wasn’t the totality of it for the Miami Heat though. It wasn’t to continue though, as the 76ers would free themselves of the zone defense they had run to begin the game.

The Sixers are -19 in DeAndre's minutes. They were in this game for most of the first three quarters. In Game 1 of the Heat, Harden struggled to just 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting with five assists in the loss. That decision paid off as the Heat held the 76ers to just 92 points. Duncan Robinson has slowly been falling out of favor in Miami throughout the end of the season. Rivers argued that the players preferred to start with Jordan. "We talked to our guys, they wanted a big guy, a big roller," Rivers said. The Sixers are down six when he is reinserted. - For reasons that remain unclear, Rivers starts the second half with Jordan on the floor. The Miami Heat strike first against the Philadelphia 76ers with a 106-92 Game 1 win. - When Reed is removed, Philly has cut the lead to five. So, in essence, Rivers not only blew Game 1 by starting Jordan, but he's actively laying the groundwork to blow Game 2 as well. Embiid, who suffered an orbital fracture and mild concussion in Game 6 against Toronto, is out indefinitely though there's optimism he can return for Game 3 when the series shifts back to Philadelphia. The Sixers are now 6-9 without their big man this season.

Adebayo took a bullet pass from Tucker for a dunk that put Miami up 62-61, and that would be the final lead change of the night. The only worse game by the 76ers was a 17.1% game, also at Miami. He then had two more in a 1:46 span of the third, giving him five fouls in 4:14 of playing time. Miami went 1 for 9 from the field over the final 6 minutes of the half, with four turnovers in there as well, and Philadelphia went on a 15-4 spurt. He was 8 for 10 from the floor, 8 for 8 from the line. Heat guard Duncan Robinson, who led Miami in games played for a third consecutive regular season, didn't appear in Game 1. That was as good as it got for the 76ers. ... Backup center Dewayne Dedmon picked up three fouls in a 23-second span of the first quarter. ... Heat Show Their Ceiling in Game 1 Rout of 76ers (Sports Illustrated)

Miami destroyed Philadelphia, 106–92, in the opener of their second-round series. SI's Michael Pina has three takeaways from the contest.

With Embiid out, the Sixers don’t have much of an answer for either one of them. Adebayo finished 8-for-10 on the night (every shot came in the paint) while Herro drilled three backbreaking straightaway threes. But Rivers chose to start the third quarter with Jordan on the court, and grew weary of another downsize in the second half because of Miami’s work on the offensive glass. Harden made the right play more often than not, hitting open teammates with kick-aheads, whipping chest passes to the second side so someone else (preferably Maxey) could drive a gap or take an open three, or feeding his wide open screener. “We’re trying to score on the press.
