John Lynch: “Nothing's changed” on Deebo Samuel (NBC Sports)

As it turns out, Odell Beckham Jr. was treating the last day of April as if it was the first day of April, tweeting as a joke that 49ers receiver Deebo ...

They’ll find out along with the rest of us whether it works. Other teams can still try to trade for Samuel. The offers made so far haven’t been great. While the true issue between player and team officially begins a mystery, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan seemed to blurt out on Friday night that a contractual impasse is at the core of the situation.

Deebo Samuel still 'dug in' on leaving 49ers, per report (49ers Webzone)

Did you enjoy your two-day break from the Deebo Samuel saga? The San Francisco 49ers didn't trade their dynamic wide receiver during the draft.

"It appears he is still dug in, still wants to be traded despite getting through the draft," Fowler said on SportsCenter. "But he knows this could be a long wait now that the 49ers did not do a deal. If Samuel remains intent on playing elsewhere, San Francisco may have missed their opportunity to cash in while the star player's stock is hot. Maybe they can work it out, but right now, he still wants to be traded." The 49ers would like for that to happen. Unfortunately, that means the saga could drag on until a resolution is reached. If it was going to happen, most figured a move would be made on Thursday night during the first round.

Deebo Samuel still does not plan to play for 49ers? (Larry Brown Sports)

Deebo Samuel still has no intention of playing for the San Francisco 49ers despite them refusing to trade him during the NFL Draft.

Of course, the situation has the potential to turn ugly if Samuel truly wants out and does not get his way. “Right now, the teams who were involved or that inquired about Samuel addressed their needs at receiver in the draft. The star wide receiver apparently has not changed his thoughts on the situation, however.

Odell Beckham causes stir with Deebo Samuel-Patriots tweet (New York Post)

Odell Beckham had NFL fans on Twitter freaking out over his Deebo Samuel tweet during the 2022 NFL Draft, saying Samuel had been traded to the Patriots.

After the draft came and went without the Niners moving Samuel, it’s unclear what’s next in the saga. If no one can meet it, then it may behoove 49ers GM John Lynch to hold onto his cards and hope somebody else folds. Samuel has a nearly $4.9 million cap hit for 2022, after which he’ll be an unrestricted free agent due a massive contract.

— Christian (@chr1st1vn)May 1, 2022 — BrianCarter99 (@BrianPNW99)May 1, 2022 If he REALLY wants out the best thing he can do is play this year and do a tag & trade. — 17 (@chadjohnsonll)May 1, 2022 It was a move that a lot of pundits didn’t see coming, especially since he just had one heck of a 2021 campaign. The trade request could also drag on since San Francisco isn’t interested in moving him right now.

Deebo Samuel reportedly still wants to be traded from the 49ers despite staying put through the NFL Draft.

I'm told Deebo still is dug in, still wants to be traded, but knows this could drag out for a while." Over the weekend, star NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took to Twitter on multiple occasions where he engaged with Samuel and posted trade rumors that were quickly proven false. So you try to look into all the aspects of it and what people are willing to do, and nothing (so far) was even remotely close to what we thought would be fair to us or fair for the Niners."

You're not slick, Odell (Deadspin)

I'm onto your game here, Odell Beckham Jr. Publicly, annoying your buddy Deebo Samuel during his contract dispute with the San Francisco 49ers, it's more ...

Obviously he’s going to be 30 years old next season, and likely not going to be able to play at all after tearing an ACL in February. With his injury history and age, it wouldn’t be the wisest decision to offer him a long-term deal while he’s rehabbing and it’s not known how well he will return from injury. Maybe Beckham is really just being The Joker on social media and enjoying watching the internet burn, but I’m not buying that’s his sole motivation, especially after A.J. Brown got traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and rewarded with a 4-year $100 million extension. Beckham surely wants another long-term deal even if he doesn’t put on pads again until he turns 31 years old in 2023. You don’t have to be traded, you’re a free agent that unfortunately tore an ACL in the Super Bowl. You don’t want your name to be forgotten, and I don’t blame you. You saw the record contracts that were signed by Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill when they were traded by teams that did not want to pay their No. 1 options that type of money. The world of NFL insiders rushed to their smartphones to declare this fake news.

Maybe not. Have the Lions said publicly they're OK with Goff under center? Yes. But after failing to add to the position in the draft, Detroit is sorely lacking ...

Drafting Treylon Burks as Brown's potential successor was smart, but what if he's not a game-changer out of the gate? But on a short, reasonable contract, he'd give them added upside in the passing game and red zone. Aaron Rodgers has a new target in Christian Watson, but Beckham would help alleviate pressure on the rookie. The 49ers rightfully won't surrender him for a mild offer, but if Deebo stays firm in his desire to relocate, extending his holdout into the summer, they'll eventually be more proactive in trade talks. The 2022 NFL Draft is in the books. Which is emblematic of the entire issue.

NFC Notes: Deebo Samuel, 49ers, Cardinals, Seahawks (NFL Trade Rumors)

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan revealed that the Jets offered the No.10 pick and a fifth-rounder for WR Deebo Samuel, but New York also wanted a second-round pick ...

It’s a crucial [competition] and they’re taking to it and it’s serious. It’s going to be a really strong, competitive group and we’re going to be smart. The coaches will finally get a chance to see the guys live and right up front. We want him to be with us.” ( Curtis Crabtree) - Carroll made an appearance on NFL Network during the late rounds of the draft and was asked about the team still adding a quarterback: “We’re always looking. So you try to look into all the aspects of it and what people are willing to do, and nothing was even remotely close to what we thought would be fair to us or fair for the Niners.” “I would love to share it all with everybody so people could understand more, but that’s really not right to Deebo, it’s not right to the 49ers. He understood and we still cool at the end of the day.” ( Josh Weinfuss) And then second of all, you try to get a win-win for both sides.” He’s been with us for a number of years. You try to be patient with it because emotions can get high with people, especially when you care about people and a lot is riding on it. And you’ve got to make sure that when it’s all said and done, first and foremost, you do what’s right for the organization.
