Instead, the Detroit Lions stuck with defense on Day 2, after grabbing Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson and Alabama WR Jameson Williams in Round 1. That leaves just North Carolina's Sam Howell, or maybe Nevada's Carson Strong (if you're into the old-school, pocket-passer type), as the top potential signal-callers. Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis and Matt Corral went to the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers, respectively, in the span of 20 picks.
Day 3 of the NFL draft is about finding lesser-known prospects with the necessary traits to become contributors down the road...
He ran a pedestrian 4.75-second 40-yard dash at the Bulldogs' pro day. Kramer is a center. Rodriguez is a standout 5'11" defender with an impressive nose for the football. After not running the 40-yard dash at the combine, he topped out with a 4.67-second time at his pro day. As a result, the Cowboys should be better at the point of attack. The ability for a defensive tackle to reestablish the line of scrimmage is always in demand. Likely is at his best when he's working the slot or off a wing. But he should get a chance to prove what he can do first. He stops on a dime." Iowa State's Charlie Kolar is a coach's dream. The defensive lineman also has a significant injury history. Faalele is a natural fit in the heavy gap scheme.
6:00 p.m.: The Lions, with their final pick of the draft, take cornerback Chase Lucas out of Arizona State (seventh round, 237 overall).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick off the fourth round and final day of the NFL draft by selecting Cade Otton, a tight end out of Washington, with the 106th overall pick. There have been three such picks in first 15 picks of the fourth round. 1:25 p.m.: There’s our first in-state player of the day: Michigan running back Hassan Haskins goes No. 131 overall (late fourth round) to the Tennessee Titans. Haskins was a reliable, productive back at Michigan, especially after contact. 1:10 p.m.: We have our first specialist of the 2022 NFL draft. It is the Lions’ first pick of the day. 3:42 p.m.: The Lions traded the 181st overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 188th and 237th picks. 1:41 p.m.: We’ve got a run of smaller-school selections, the latest being one of the best-named players in the draft: Bailey Zappe, a quarterback from Western Kentucky, goes No. 137 overall to the New England Patriots. He was preceded by selections from North Dakota State, Fayetteville State, and UTSA. Zappe is the fifth quarterback taken in this draft. 3:23 p.m.: The Bears selected Dominique Robinson, a linebacker from Miami Ohio, with the 174th overall pick. 3:19 p.m.: Samuel Womack, a Detroit native, went 172nd overall to the San Francisco 49ers. “He’s a former safety who is on the smaller side for a linebacker prospect, and his lack of length shows up when he’s forced to take on blockers in a phone booth. 5:20 p.m.: The Lions drafted another linebacker, Jackson State’s James Houston IV, with the 217th pick. The Lions, as of now, have one more pick left: the 237th selection, thanks to an earlier trade with Philadelphia.

Mark Dulgerian breaks down every selection on Day 3 in the 2022 NFL Draft, providing analysis for predictable picks to unexpected trades.
There is plenty of uncertainty within the Titans receiving corps, so they fill a need with one of the more versatile and reliable slot guys in this draft. The Colts do a great job of drafting traits they can develop in the middle to late rounds. Conner offers some insurance as a physical backup, but he'll need to prove more value in the pass game to see consistent work. The Texans entered the draft with a need at defensive line and finally address it here. Washington is all but stable at the QB position and could use some competition for the backup job at the very least. The AFC West is expected to be a high-flying collection of offensive star power in 2022. The Rams are light on depth at the slot CB position, and they have several DBs entering a contract year. There is some uncertainty surrounding the tackle position in New York, and Mitchell will have a chance to compete for reps on the left or right side. Doubs was Carson Strong's go-to target at Nevada and possesses the speed and ball skills to convert splash plays as a WR4. White also comes with some medical history, but there isn't a ton of tread on the tires and he offers an explosive, physical presence to Vegas' run game. Pierce isn't a speedster, but he's one of the toughest runners in this class and should offer an immediate physical presence to pair with Marlon Mack and company. They'll align in a 3-4 base where Uwazurike fits as a slashing five-technique, but he has enough versatility to move around the line in different packages.

This tight end class lacked elite prospect but had a good depth in the middle rounds. It will either be Nebraska or our good friends down in Austin. To get to know Mathis better, here is my film breakdown. Domann should be a lock and could be taken early in the fourth but won’t last past the fifth round. There is a good chance we see close to 40 drafted this year. Only four tight ends have been taken so far which isn’t a good sign. Today’s attention now turns to JoJo Domann, Samori Toure and Austin Allen. These three have the best shot to get drafted today.
