His surgically repaired right knee might hinder the sturdiness of his throwing base, but Strong still throws with velocity, accuracy and touch either on or off-platform. A total of 11 Mountain West players were drafted: Six offensive players, four defensive players and one special teams player. Nonchalant eye discipline and a gunslinger mentality means he’s likely to see additional air traffic and turnovers as he transitions from Nevada’s Air Raid offense.

“I think leg strength and athleticism are two things that help a lot in the conditions. “I am not trying to be anybody else. “I am continuing to be myself,” he said. As long as I can bring better field position to my team than the team we’re playing against, that’s kind of my goal. “The Bucs certainly are a team that’s looking to make a big run. “I think it has certainly prepared me for the next level, playing at Georgia for four years, playing in every single biggest game you can possibly imagine,” Camarda noted. “I have been put out for a lot of long field goals in tough situations, and I still brought out good results in it. The philosophy of taking running backs deeper into proceedings is nothing new, and several highly accomplished ball carriers were taken in Round 4. I think that is what makes me the best.” “I will leave my heart on the field. Strong threw for 4,175 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2021 the former University of Nevada quarterback was projected to go anywhere after the first round. Carson Strong signs with Eagles after shockingly going undrafted (NFL Spin Zone)

The Philadelphia Eagles are taking a shot on former Nevada quarterback Carson Strong after he shockingly wasn't picked at all in the 2022 NFL Draft.

In the case of Carson Strong, NFL teams had to have pretty bad medical info to not draft him at all. It’s a tremendous signing for the Philadelphia Eagles, who essentially are getting another day two or early day three draft pick. A lot of times, you will see NFL teams get desperate and reach up and down the board for quarterbacks on all three days.

2022 NFL Draft: Nevada QB Carson Strong goes undrafted, takes ... (The Athletic)

Nobody doubts Strong's arm strength. The questions are about his surgically repaired right knee and his foot quickness in the pocket.

That puts him in the company of some of the strongest throws in the history of football. Strong skipped the 40-yard dash, the broad jump and the bench press portions of the NFL combine, but he threw the ball for scouts. Against Utah State in 2020, he threw a pass from his own 38-yard line to the back of the end zone. As long as the medicals on his knee come back clean, he falls somewhere in the range of Mason Rudolph as an NFL prospect. We were down against Fresno and he basically took us 90 yards down the field and scored a touchdown and really was a two-point play away from tying that game up. It took Strong two years to get back on the field after his first knee surgery, and he had a pedestrian season (2,335 yards, 11 TDs, 7 TDs) in 2019 as a redshirt freshman starter before he got rolling. He’s won games in overtime against Wyoming. Just incredibly positive in really pressure situations and he did that time and time again — triple overtime against Air Force. Just an amazing player.” And only three teams threw the ball more than us — Mississippi State, Western Kentucky and Purdue. So to throw the ball that many times and to have the ball in the pocket that many times and not turn it over, it’s just a real credit to him, his knowledge, his ball security and his production. We honored his commitment like we always do and he was an amazing player for us.” Strong, who wears a protective brace on his right knee and rarely leaves the pocket, was a three-star recruit out of Wood High School in Vacaville, Calif. Oregon State, Cal and San Diego State all showed interest, but Nevada was the only FBS program to offer him a scholarship. “It might have been a blessing that he didn’t play his senior year because we felt a lot of people would have been on him. “He had (an arthroscopic procedure to clear scar tissue) the week before the season.

But there’s always a chance the opportunistic Howie Roseman will ship away his backup quarterback before the season, which means there could even be a path for Strong to compete for the No. 2 job at some point. It’s one thing to not be a threat to run, but Strong is a sitting duck. In fact, he’s something of a statue in the pocket.

Covey was very effective as a punt returner at the college level with an 11.9 return average and four touchdowns. We have a lot of confidence in Marcus [Epps]. The Eagles signed the former Nevada quarterback to a deal that pays more than he would have earned as a late draft picks.
