A complete look at the Dallas Cowboys picks and draft order in each round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This year's draft takes place on April 28-30 in Las Vegas.
The Cowboys’ defense performed better than expected last season, finishing No. 7 overall in points allowed per game. Round 5: No. 176 – Damone Clark, LB, LSU Despite the strong rebound, the Cowboys were quickly bumped from the playoffs when they lost at home in the first round to the San Francisco 49ers and their season – once again – ended earlier than planned. The Cowboys had a strong offensive line protecting Prescott last season, but they need to do some restructuring this offseason. But Dallas already has depth at the receiver position in CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, though admittedly not as much at the start of the season after the Miami Dolphins signed Cedrick Wilson. The Cowboys are now freed up to use their additional draft picks to fill other positions of need. Cooper has eclipsed the 1000-yard mark five times in his eight-year career and is therefore a weapon on any offense.

Physical at the point of attack and with his hands as a blocker. The Rundown: The Cowboys considered drafting a tight end as early as the second round and prioritized the position early on Day 3. Schultz set career highs in catches (78), receiving yards (808) and touchdowns (8) last year and could see even more receiving targets in 2022 as the Cowboys reshape the passing game without Amari Cooper (Browns) and Cedrick Wilson (Dolphins). But after waiving injured veteran Blake Jarwin (hip), the club wanted another tight end to help as a receiver/blocker and contribute in two-tight end sets.

Ridgeway was a state champion wrestler in high school and plays with the knock-back power to displace and overwhelm blockers. His twitch is slightly delayed at the top of routes, although his eye use and route recognition showed encouraging improvements in 2021 as he adjusted to the FBS. the run and pass to be a complete NFL player. However, he finds himself overextended too often and there is a massive gap between the power and skill of rushers he faced in the Missouri Valley Conference and what he will see in the NFL. He flashes the ability to stack-and-shed blockers, but he isn’t an explosive take-on player and needs to better navigate roadblocks. Overall, Williams must improve his discipline to be a more consistent edge-setter and rusher, but he has the upfield acceleration and attacking mentality to affect the game as a quarterback hunter. He has the mentality needed for blocking duties, but his average play strength and technique will be more pronounced in the NFL. Although he doesn’t have elite top-end speed, he has fluid footwork and uses slight hesitation in his route breaks so he can mash the gas and create pockets of separation. In the run game, he has a reliable motor but struggles to control the point because of a faulty anchor and tall pads. He has issues with over-setting, his hand discipline isn’t consistent (both in pass pro and the run game) and he might be a better guard than a tackle. Williams was arrested on felony sexual battery in July 2020 – the charges were dropped that September and he returned to the team following a suspension. He can finish, he can play with a nasty edge and he’s flexible enough to get underneath defenders and be a two-way asset as an offensive lineman.
Tyler Smith to the Cowboys: Scouting report, what to know about Dallas' 2022 first-round draft pick.
Ridgeway does need to improve his anchor, however, and should not find himself on the ground as much as he does, which isn't frequently but is too frequently for someone of his size and ability. A coachable opportunity, to say the least, for what might be a steal for the Cowboys; and they believe he might return at some point this coming season. This is what he brings to the Cowboys, and all he has to do now is get healthy. Clark is recovering from a serious back injury that required surgery to repair, and might cost him time as a rookie, but he's already had the procedure done and the prognosis is a six-month recovery time. A speedy defensive back that can keep up with receivers in a straight line, he could do well in man/press assignments but really excels in zone coverages, but he'll need to learn how to channel his aggressiveness and physicality -- two things he has in spades -- to refine his movements. This is an interesting one for the Cowboys but, let's be honest, he's not the only one that fits that category in this year's haul of Dallas picks. He joins a mauler of a pick in Tyler Smith (first round) in helping to add some promising potential to a Cowboys offensive line that desperately needs it. Having received a call from Prescott ahead of the draft to gauge the possibility of the selection, Tolbert says there was an "immediate vibe" struck with the Cowboys franchise quarterback. It's been a long road for the Dallas-Fort Worth area native to get to where he is now, playing for his hometown team. ... I definitely see myself as a tackle for sure, but I'm willing to move wherever I need to go to mesh with the organization or wherever I am." He's not a player opposing pass rushers enjoy dealing with on a snap-by-snap basis, and his arm length (85th percentile) combines with his wingspan (92nd percentile) to make for a very long day for defenders. A lot of his progress early on will fall on the lap on offensive line coach Joe Philbin, and largely in trying to get Smith to scale down the number of penalties he usually draws per game -- especially on a team that has often believed themselves targeted by NFL officials on holding penalties (something head coach Mike McCarthy benched former starting left guard Connor Williams over in 2021).

Cowboys have drafted former North Dakota OT Matt Waletzko in fifth round with No. 155 overall pick. Waletzko measured in at 6-8, 312 pounds at the NFL scouting combine. Here’s some analysis from NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein: “Skyscraping FCS tackle with tremendous length but there are too many holes in the physical profile to project NFL success at this stage. Waletzko started 10 games at left tackle for North Dakota last season before an injury kept him out of the final game of the season.
