Cleveland Browns NFL draft picks 2022: Analysis for every selection ... (ESPN)

Cleveland, who didn't have a first-rounder, traded out of the second round and selected Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson in the third.

With several intriguing options on the board, like LSU's Cade York and Texas' Cameron Dicker, among others, kicker might be the position to watch for the Browns on the final day of the draft. What’s next: The Browns will have an opportunity to control the fourth round, with three of the first 18 picks on Day 3 (108, 118, 124). Cleveland still needs help at defensive tackle and wide receiver, but the position to watch could be kicker. My take: Outside All-Pro Myles Garrett, the Browns don't have much in the form of young, budding talent along their defensive line.

"We thought he had some of the best hands in this draft class," Berry said. He was a three-year starter at Mississippi State and was one of the tallest cornerbacks of the draft class at 6-foot-2 and 200-pounds. Bell is capable of playing in the slot and outside and will be worth watching closely through offseason workouts. Not many expected the Browns to go after a cornerback with their first draft pick, but they were attracted to the traits of Emerson and the idea of solidifying an already-strong cornerback position with more depth. Bell was one of the top receivers available for the day, and the Browns were able to grab him at No. 99. "I would say that even in this draft class, we did feel like the sweet spot was more mid-to-late second day and in the middle rounds.

With the third of their three third round picks, the Cleveland Browns selected wide receiver David Bell from Purdue.

He can operate in tight spaces, making tough catches. In his final season, Bell caught 93 passes for 1,286 yards and six touchdowns. Bell ran a 4.65 at the NFL Scouting Combine in the 40-yard dash, then retested at his Pro Day to run even slower at 4.71. His explosion was poor, jumping 9'10" with a 33" vertical.

Cleveland Browns redeem themselves with the pick of Alex Wright (Dawg Pound Daily)

The Cleveland Browns selected edge defender Alex Wright with the 78th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft redeeming themselves from their previous pick.

There will be a steep learning curve for Wright and they will not put a ton on his plate as a rookie. Defensive line coach, Chris Kiffin, has to be chomping at the bits to work with his new piece of clay. Wright did not accrue the accolades that he should have given his physical toolset, but the upside is hard to deny.

'It feels surreal': Browns' Alex Wright gets goosebumps as he teams ... (Akron Beacon Journal)

Browns see 'a lot of clay to work with' in Wright, their 78th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft who played outside linebacker at UAB.

“He was really a favorite across the organization — scouts, coaches, and our research and strategy group,” Berry said. “Just going through and talking with D-line coaches, defensive coordinators, just talking to every coach, it felt like it was my home. You could tell it was from the heart, everything they said,” Wright said. “He will definitely come in and contribute in the run game right away. “There is a lot of clay to work with there.” “But I wanted to focus on football because I … could see myself having fun at it. “That was one of those things in college that I wanted to do, I wanted to try it out,” Wright said. I wanted to take a break from music, but still keep it on the side. I even played clarinet … and I was pretty good,” Wright said. Can we help him grow in this area?’ I think some of the opportunities he did get to do it, he really displayed the potential, the ability, and the effectiveness as an interior pass rusher. It is pretty exciting to see if he has similar potential.” Wright had 91 tackles, 19 for losses, 12½ sacks, three forced fumbles, and five passes defensed in his three seasons as a starter at UAB, where he played the edge in a 3-4 scheme.

The Cleveland Browns selected defensive end Alex Wright in the third round, adding another big edge player to their defensive line..

With the 78th pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the Browns selected defensive end Alex Wright out of UAB. At almost 6’6″ and 270 pounds, Wright gives the Cleveland defensive line another huge presence. The Cleveland Browns have made their second selection of the night, and second in the third round of the NFL draft.

Wright recorded 11.5 sacks and 90 tackles across three seasons at UAB.

"Being able to just watch him and now have the chance to play across from him is like a dream come true. He did not get a ton of opportunities to do that at UAB, but we see some of that ability in him, and that will help us out on third down." "We do not expect him to come in and be perfect right away," said Browns VP of Player Personnel Glenn Cook. "What we do love about him is he is big, he is long and he is physical.

Cleveland Browns score low grade on Martin Emerson pick at 68 (Dawg Pound Daily)

The Cleveland Browns first pick in the NFL Draft was cornerback Martin Emerson from Mississippi State. It wasn't a pick of need and was disappointing.

The team left a ton of excellent college prospects on the board that could have helped with their more pressing needs. It wasn’t the start that most fans had hoped for. Waiting for the Cleveland Browns to make a selection in this NFL draft isn’t something fans of the team are used to. I won’t give it an F because Emerson is a talented player and had a nice career at Mississippi State. It’s bizarre because the Browns have two starting cornerbacks in Greg Newsome II and Denzel Ward who recently signed a huge new contract with the team. There were several trades early in the second round as well.

Cleveland Browns NFL Draft picks 2022: Grades, fits and scouting ... (The Athletic)

Keep coming back for each pick from the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 NFL Draft, plus analysis and grades for each of them.

Dane Brugler’s analysis: Wright is still a work in progress in several areas, but he has elite length and intriguing movement skills for his size to be disruptive versus both the pass and run. He can provide a punch to an NFL team’s depth chart. The D-line remake continues, and there are snaps to be won immediately. He projects as a high-floor, low-ceiling NFL starter. His length is a real problem and he knows how to use it. But his length is impossible to miss and impressive. He tracks and adjusts. He’s got room to grow, weight and power to add. How he fits: A big corner with room to grow. He has NFL starting potential, ideally suited in a Cover-2 or Cover-3 scheme. Would he be better off as a safety or a back-end hybrid of sorts? Though it’s hard to know exactly what to expect from the Browns, they’ll be looking to continue to upgrade their wide receiver and defensive line groups.

Cleveland Browns make smart pick with David Bell to close out busy ... (Dawg Pound Daily)

The Cleveland Browns had a busy second night of the 2022 NFL Draft and finished things out by taking David Bell from Purdue, which was a wise pick.

The question after this pick is what it means for the Browns going forward. Bell joins a roster that already has Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Jakeem Grant, and Anthony Schwartz at wideout. Bell ended up being the team’s third pick as they took Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson and UAB defensive end Alex Wright earlier in the third round.
