Toots is widely considered an unrivaled harmonica player and a true Jazz Master. He continued recording with other artists and performing publicly late into his life. Even if you haven’t heard of Toots Thielemans, there’s a decent chance you’ve heard his work, as he provided the harmonica solo heard during the iconic Sesame Street theme song. In the early 1960s, Thielemans wrote and recorded a song called Bluesette, which he considered to be his signature work. When Goodman later planned tours of Europe in 1949 and 1950, Thielemans was invited to play guitar with the band, jump starting his career.

In 1951, he then toured with Bobbejaan Schopen before moving to the U.S. in 1952 and becoming a member of Charlie Parker’s All-Stars. He accepted the invitation and joined their tours in 1949 and 1950 before making his first record with band member and saxophonist Zoot Sims. The musician was regarded as one of the best harmonica players of all time and toured the world.
