4 things to watch in Sixers-Raptors Game 6 (NBA.com)

Joel Embiid and Philadelphia return to Toronto, where they need to rediscover their offense to avoid Game 7.

In the regular season, Philly had the league’s second-biggest differential between their record when they shot the league average (35.4%) or better from 3-point range ( 38-10, .792) and their record when they didn’t (13-21, .382). This time, Green was ready for the Anunoby switch (while Trent wasn’t), and he quickly popped to a wide-open 3 … In that super-efficient Game 1, the Sixers committed just four turnovers, with three of the four coming after they were up 20 with less than four minutes to go. Part of that is the Raptors being a team that doesn’t get to the rim a ton. In the regular season, Embiid defended a league-high 8.8 shots at the rim per game, and opponents shot just 58.7% at the rim when he was there to protect it. Two possessions later, the Sixers ran the same play. The Raptors didn’t switch the Green cross-screen. Credit the Raptors, who forced 3.4 more turnovers than they committed in the regular season. And Game 5 on Monday was their fifth least efficient game of the season (88 points on 94 possessions). According to Second Spectrum tracking though, the Sixers’ shot quality was better on Monday than it was in the previous three games. The Raptors scored just nine points on their first 11 possessions of the third quarter on Monday, but then got four straight scores by making Embiid defend on the perimeter. And only three of the previous 145 (including this year’s Brooklyn Nets and Denver Nuggets) who have faced that 0-3 deficit have even forced a Game 7.

Sixers Dominate Raptors to Win Series, Advance to 2nd Round (NBC 10 Philadelphia)

Behind strong performances from Tyrese Maxey, James Harden and Joel Embiid, the Sixers dominated the Toronto Raptors to close out the series and advance to ...

Maxey was key last year in the Sixers beating the Hawks on the road to force Game 7, and he thrived Thursday in his second NBA Game 6. Embiid had a wide smile and talked some trash following an elbow jumper early in the fourth quarter. When a Siakam hoop lifted Toronto to a three-point lead early in the third, Harris and Maxey replied with consecutive threes. He nailed two more threes during a 17-0 run that extended the Sixers' advantage to 20 points. It was reasonable to think, with Embiid playing through a torn ligament in his right thumb and the Sixers dismal on both ends in Game 5, that the Raptors were not badly positioned be the first NBA team to ever win a series after trailing 3-0. A well-known zone worry surfaced in the first half, too, as the Raptors snagged 10 of the game's 11 offensive rebounds before intermission. It made sense to consider Embiid's physical freshness at this stage of a grueling series, as well as to force the Raptors to handle rotations they might not have expected. Their lapses contributed to a huge opening half for Boucher off the bench (19 points, nine rebounds). Harden's insistence on attacking the paint set the right tone, showing losses in Games 4 and 5 didn't mean the Sixers were destined to wilt. When the big man checked back in, he did well to work hard (and early) for catches at the nail and in the paint. Within the first six minutes, the 32-year-old slammed home a dunk, assisted an Embiid layup, drew four free throws and darted in for a fast-break hoop. Following a Harris layup that gave the Sixers an 18-15 lead, Embiid stepped in to take a charge on Precious Achiuwa.

Joel Embiid led the Sixers with a game-high of 33 points in 35 minutes. By the time the Sixers and the Raptors entered the fourth quarter, Philadelphia had a notable 99-78 lead. With the series down to 3-2 heading into Game 6 in Toronto, the Sixers left many fans uneasy as a loss on Thursday night would force a Game 7.

Another gear? The Sixers showed what Doc Rivers was talking about Thursday night, closing out the Raptors with a 132-97 Game 6 win at Scotiabank Arena.

Joel Embiid had 33 points on 12-of-18 shooting, along with 10 rebounds and three blocks. James Harden had his best playoff game as a Sixer, going for 25 points ...

Between Harden drives and Embiid post-ups, the Sixers outscored Toronto in the paint in the first half. For the first time since Game 2, they easily looked like the superior team in the series. - After the last two games, it was so refreshing from a Philly perspective to see them push the lead to 20 in the third quarter. They took 11 more shots in the first half than the Sixers. Their ability to create extra possessions has caused problems for the Sixers since Game 3. - The key to the Sixers getting out to an early lead was a hot start from James Harden. The All-Star acquisition came alive early with a 10-point first quarter. After a close first half, the Sixers cruised through the second half to close out the first round.
