This is Russell Wilson's message to the team's upcoming draft class (Broncos Wire)

Russell Wilson wants Denver's rookies to take advantage of their opportunities like he did in 2012.

What I would say to any young player coming in is to take advantage of your opportunity.” Going into it, Seattle gave me that amazing chance, and now Denver is giving me this amazing chance to step up and play. “Once you get the opportunity, all I’ve ever said is I need one person to give me a chance — one team.

Seahawks have drafted just 2 quarterbacks in 12 years under ... (Tacoma News Tribune)

In 12 years under Pete Carroll, John Schneider the Seahawks have taken 2 quarterbacks in the NFL draft: Russell Wilson and Alex McGough. Now Wilson is gone.

Carroll and Schneider loved Lock when he was coming out of the University of Missouri for the draft in 2019. “You go back to his first year when he was balling as a rookie, when he was 4-1 (for the Broncos), his third-down numbers were terrific. Carroll has said Smith will get the chance to compete intensely with Lock this summer for the starting job replacing Wilson. That includes the 40th- and 41st-overall picks in round two, and number 72 in the third round. That makes it possible if not likely Seattle drafts a quarterback later rather than earlier in this draft. Denver drafted Lock in the second round that year. But the Seahawks had just signed Wilson to a then-NFL record $140 million contract extension two weeks before that draft. He became the winningest quarterback in NFL history over the first 10 years of a career. McGough, from Florida International, went to Seattle in the seventh round in 2018. McGough lasted one season on the Seahawks’ practice squad, as a rookie in 2018. “When we took Russ we had signed Matt Flynn, T-Jack (Tarvaris Jackson) was here, remember he had tore his pec, he was the locker room guy. That’s all the quarterbacks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have drafted in a dozen years.

5 Burning Questions: What to Watch as Seahawks Enter Critical ... (SeahawkMaven)

After months of anticipation, the return of the scouting combine, a bevy of blockbuster trades, and hundreds of pre-draft visits, the 2022 NFL Draft will ...

The team has been in the market for receiver help in free agency and could easily draft one in the second or third round. In the past, he's traded up for Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jarran Reed, and Darrell Taylor, so one of those picks could be used to possibly go back into the first round. But if there's a common thread between most of his drafts at the helm, it's that he will be actively working the phones looking to swing trades moving up and down the board. Over the years, Carroll and Schneider haven't felt the need to draft a cornerback early with the belief they could develop a later round pick into a quality starter and for the most part, that method has paid dividends. Keeping that history in mind, conventional wisdom should go out the window when considering who Schneider may target with their first pick, regardless of whether they trade up, sit pat at No. 9 overall, or slide back a few spots. Over the years, he has stunned draft analysts picking players such as defensive end Bruce Irvin, defensive end L.J. Collier, running back Rashaad Penny, and linebacker Jordyn Brooks in the first round. But he has feasted on FCS competition and like Cross, he has a litany of technical flaws that must be cleaned up to succeed at the next level, including playing too upright in pass protection. This one looks like a toss up if Schneider wants to go this route in the first round. But when healthy, he's a dynamic playmaker at the corner position who thrives in man coverage and can pick off passes in bunches. North Carolina's Sam Howell and Mississippi's Matt Corral both spent time with the team at some point in the past couple of months and while they may be available into the second round, moving up to 27 or 30 to get them would allow the Seahawks to benefit from five years of club control. Fans should be ready for anything from picking Willis or Ridder in the mid-first to waiting things out to select Howell or Corral with one of their two second round selections. The same can't be said for the two tackle spots, as the team only has three players rostered at the position currently and between Stone Forsythe, Jake Curhan, and Greg Eiland, they have started a combined five NFL regular season games.

Seattle Seahawks 2022 NFL Draft Predictions: Rebuilding the ... (Pro Football Network)

The Seattle Seahawks are in a good position for NFL Draft predictions -- they have needs that should fit perfectly with the ninth pick.

If the Seahawks want to go defense, they won’t be short of superb options with the ninth pick. If either does, it would be a gift for Seattle and the direction they should go in the draft. With their run-first nature, building the trenches while they search for their future at QB would be wise for his future progress. Garrett Wilson could be an option with the ninth pick if he is still there. The Seahawks would be better served trying to retool the roster and look at QB in the future. The Seattle Seahawks are a difficult team for NFL Draft predictions.

The Broncos' starting spots at inside linebacker, offensive guard, center and defensive end all appear to be up for grabs.

My whole mentality is that every year I’ve got to prove myself because the year you don’t prove yourself is the year they’ll be looking for a replacement.” 11. With Melvin Gordon back with the Broncos on a one-year deal, he and Williams figure to again split carries in a backfield. “Obviously we look to add some other pieces that can catch the ball and can actually return a ball in a game. He’s talking more in the locker room, and he’s talking more on the field. “We ask a lot of the tight ends in this system,” Outten said. “We have guys that have looked and we’re confident in that can catch the ball,” Stukes said. He kept working his way up the depth chart at wide receiver and signed a three-year, $30 million last fall on the heels of a two-season stretch in which he caught a team-high 11 touchdown passes. The 16-year coaching veteran, who is getting his second chance to run a special teams unit after being Tampa Bay’s coordinator for one season in 2011, made clear during his meeting with reporters Wednesday that he is setting high demands for his units. Those guys will kind of bounce around as you’ll see, just to see them fit in different spots and direct traffic in playing guard and helping the tackles out as far as the interior stuff. “This is the NFL and even in college I had to fight every year for my position,” Cushenberry said. 4. Broncos general manager George Paton has said multiple times during the offseason that young teams have “to learn to win.” It’s a somewhat unquantifiable mission, but it’s one the Broncos have to accomplish if they hope to start regularly turning narrow losses like last season’s finale against the Chiefs into wins. 3. New Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten is entering just his seventh season in the NFL, having spent the first eight years of his coaching career as an offensive assistant at Westfield High in Houston. But during that relatively brief stay in the league, he’s already experienced what having an elite quarterback does for a franchise.

51 NFL Draft prospects who make sense for the Denver Broncos (Mile High Report)

West may be able to fight for a starting job right out of the gate with what he should bring to a zone run game. He was a very promising cornerback for the Clemson Tigers before multiple suspensions eventually turned into a dismissal and also had an arrest expunged from his record. Outside of that, at this point in the draft it’s probably unrealistic to expect a rookie to come in with a complete game, so Paton’s probably choosing between one-dimensional, toolsy, or limited prospects. If the Broncos are looking to replace Andrew Beck at fullback this is right around where Maryland’s Chigoziem Okonkwo is expected to get drafted. The Trojan edge rusher would be a fantastic fit for the Broncos’ scheme with his ability to bend the edge and drop in space. If Kentucky’s Luke Fortner slips this far he stands out as a strong fit and one of the last prospects who could emerge as an early competitor for the center job. I’m a fan of Cincinnati’s Darrian Beavers, who is sort of a poor man’s Leo Chenal and fits into the Alexander Johnson role on a Denver defense that will look similar to the Fangio years. Fans often overlook the importance of special teams’ value this far down the board because it isn’t sexy, but it often serves as the prospect’s best hope to stick to a roster in year one. One unpopular move that could make sense at this point with the strength of the class is wide receiver. Generally speaking, I do not believe the Broncos’ need at running back is so great that it warrants a day two investment. If you look at the various consensus boards there’s actually a noticeable drop-off at a few positions between 64 and 75, so I’d argue Paton should make his second round pick with the top of the third in mind. Thanks to the trade for the future Hall of Famer, George Paton doesn’t have a single pick until the last selection of the second round.

Broncos' blockbuster Russell Wilson deal further justified during NFL ... (The Athletic)

Denver didn't have a pick among the opening 32 of the 2022 draft and didn't spend any time lamenting that fact.

Or perhaps the Broncos take advantage of other teams that are eager to jump into the second round and move back to collect future picks. Luckily, the Broncos don’t have to imagine themselves in quarterback purgatory any longer. That could have been Denver’s almost exact scenario: drafting an impact starter like Cross — as they did last year at No. 9 with cornerback Pat Surtain II — as a way to strengthen the roster around some combination of Lock and a veteran acquired by trade or through free agency. Perhaps the opportunity to trade back would have presented itself and Paton could have grabbed Pickett — or Malik Willis of Liberty, if that was his preference — while collecting more capital to build a roster around him. Among the somewhat surprising prospects who made it to Day 2: Central Michigan tackle Bernhard Raimann, Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean, Penn State edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie and Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. Might one of those players fall far enough for Denver to make a move? It’s hard to imagine the pragmatic, stick-to-the-board Paton reaching for a quarterback who was ultimately drafted 11 picks after Denver’s initial selection. When the Steelers took Kenny Pickett from the University of Pittsburgh at No. 20, it was the latest the first quarterback had been selected during any draft since the 49ers made Jim Druckenmiller the 26th pick in 1997. They traded for Sam Darnold last offseason, believing they could help the third pick in 2018 unlock something he couldn’t find during three seasons with the Jets. They went searching for his successor this offseason, launching an unsuccessful pursuit of Deshaun Watson but came up empty. After trading the No. 9 pick — along with four other picks across this draft and next year’s — to Seattle, Denver didn’t have a pick among the opening 32 and didn’t spend any time lamenting that fact. He wants the best for himself, but he also wants the best for the team. The Broncos didn’t need to further justify the move they made March 8, but the first round of the NFL Draft did it for them. Before Wilson joined the roster, Denver was wandering in the quarterback desert, floating in no-man’s land at the most important position in sports ever since Peyton Manning retired in 2016.

Who should Denver Broncos draft in the second round of the NFL ... (Mile High Report)

Plenty of talented prospects remain on the board. Who should George Paton select? By Just_JoRo Apr 29, 2022, 12:12am MDT.

Parham is a smart, athletic player who could compete for playing time at guard or center early in his career. Orlando Brown is set to play on a franchise tag and it looks like there will be a right tackle competition. Winfey has the burst and play strength to become a disruptive interior rusher. McBride gives them a hedge against Dawson Knox’s contract and should give Josh Allen another target on the second level. Philly has one of the shakiest linebacker corps. Paschal is a powerful run defender who can also reduce down to threaten as a pass rusher in sub packages. Jones is a mammoth 6’3 333 lb. Walker has the vision and contact balance to draw some Beast Mode comparisons, though he isn’t as explosive. Hall has the kind of vision and contact balance to serve as a perfect running mate for Michael Carter. Ryan Tannehill’s cap number is just under $40 million each of the next two seasons and it’d be onerous to move on, so he looks like a solid bridge and mentor for Willis. What follows is a quick look at how how things could play out. That could be great news for the Broncos’ chances at 64, because NFL GMs now have hours to convince themselves they like one of the prospective franchise passers enough to move up to the end of round two.
