BREAKING: Jermaine Johnson selected in first round of 2022 NFL ... (CalBearsMaven)

There was no if heading into the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft for former Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson, only when.

Johnson is the 46th first-round pick in Florida State program history. The 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year recorded 70 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a defensive touchdown during his lone season at Florida State. Transferring in from Georgia, Johnson became the leader of the Seminoles' defense. Not only did he perform, he straight up dominated the offensive tackles in attendance.

Jets take Jermaine Johnson after 2022 NFL Draft trade (New York Post)

Joe Douglas traded back into the first round, giving up picks 35, 69 and 163, so the Jets could take edge rusher Jermaine Johnson with the 26th pick.

Johnson was featured in the Netflix series, ”Last Chance U” at Independence. He had 12.5 sacks in two seasons there then chose Georgia over Oregon, Texas and USC. He transferred to Florida State to get more playing time in 2021. The Jets can now pair Johnson with Carl Lawson, who is working his way back from the torn Achilles tendon that ended his season last year in training camp, to give the defense a strong set of edge rushers. The Jets have been searching for an elite edge rusher for 16 years.

With the X pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the New York Jets select Florida State EDGE Jermaine Johnson II. GRADE: A+. Since Johnson was my top edge-rusher in ...

Conclusion: There are some analysts who will tell you that Johnson is scratching the surface of his potential, and he might be the best edge player in this class over the next few seasons. When he’s coasting as opposed to setting the tone with his hands and technique, he becomes ordinary. Since Johnson was my top edge-rusher in this class, and the Jets managed to get him by trading up to 26 with the Titans… well, this is ridiculous. Johnson doesn’t get to the quarterback, but here’s where you can see how he uses his hands as an inside rusher. Hitting a Top-10 draft prospect with the okey-doke like this makes me think that Johnson will bedevil NFL tackles with the same ridiculously quick inside-to-outside moves. Strengths: In today’s front-versatile NFL, you want an edge defender who has some game inside the tackles, and Johnson qualifies.

Jermaine Johnson II becomes first FSU player drafted in first round ... (Tallahassee.com)

Jermaine Johnson II became the first FSU football player to be drafted in the first round since Brian Burns went 16th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Across 20 games at Independence, Johnson totaled 96 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. The Eden Prairie (Minn.) High product spent his first two collegiate seasons playing for Independence (Kan.) Community College before Georgia pursued and landed him as a transfer. Transferring to FSU from Georgia before last season helped Johnson significantly elevate his draft stock. FSU now has 46 first-round picks in program history. Some NFL Draft projections predicted he would be a top 10 pick. NFL Draft experts project him to be an immediate starter who could play professionally for longer than a decade.

Day 1 of NFL Draft: UF's Kaiir Elam, FSU's Jermaine Johnson head ... (Palm Beach Post)

The FSU edge rusher goes to the New York Jets; the UF cornerback heads to the Buffalo Bills, and both will play against the Dolphins in years to come.

I think there's plenty to watch: A few highlights of the guy for whom they traded this year's first and second pick, along with two fourth-round picks and a sixth-round pick next year. So, in case you forgot, the Miami Dolphins will not be drafting in the first round. Both Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson and Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam went in the NFL Draft first round. The meaning was clear: another Walker will be prowling TIAA Bank Field, this time as a member of the Jaguars. When DO they draft?: What draft picks does Miami have? But as a rival for the Miami Dolphins. Johnson, who transferred to FSU from Georgia before the 2021 season, landed with a coach in Robert Saleh who is known for building strong defenses. Or the second. Last season, Neal was a consensus All-America pick at tackle. The team the Jags traded with, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, now have the first selection in Round 2, opening Friday night's festivities. That means both players should be facing the Miami Dolphins twice a season for a while. Some NFL Draft projections predicted he would be a top 10 pick.

Jermaine Johnson: 3 things to know about NY Jets' third first-round ... (NorthJersey.com)

It was later than expected, but Jermaine Johnson is a member of the Jets. Here is what to know about the team's first-round pick of the 2022 draft.

He can set the edge as well as get inside tackles to stop the run. He ran the 40 in 4.58 seconds, and he had a vertical leap of 32 inches. Johnson, of course, said his production at Florida State is more indicative of what his NFL career will look like. Johnson is intriguing to many NFL teams because of his measurements. Johnson grew up in Minnesota, and then played for three different colleges in five years. In search of more playing time, Johnson transferred to Florida State. In his one season, Johnson came into his own with 11.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for losses.

What resulted was one of the more impressive seasons by a Florida State defensive lineman in recent program history, earning him ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Though the New York Jets passed on the chance to take him at No. 4 and No. 10, they made the moves necessary to secure him in the first, trading back up to No. 26 by swapping picks with the Tennessee Titans. Florida State Seminoles football has added another first-round pick to the list of names the program has sent to the NFL.

His stock has consistently risen since the first Senior Bowl practice.
