They still need to take care of business in Leg 2, but returning home to the friendly confines of Lumen Field, Seattle have a strong outlook. That advantage was extended to 2-0 shortly after the second-half kickoff, as Dinenno struck for his brace. Dinenno drilled the ensuing opportunity, affording the hosts a 1-0 first-half lead.

The Seattle Sounders traveled to Mexico City to face Pumas UNAM in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League and came home with a dramatic draw.

Deep in stoppage time, Cristian Roldan was kicked in the penalty area and the referee took a look at the video and called a second PK for the Sounders. Lodeiro stepped up to this one as well and left no doubt about it as he rocketed the ball over the GK as the game moved beyond the initially allotted 6 minutes of stoppage time. Seattle kept pushing, but looked likely to particularly rue a missed chance just after the second Pumas goal when Raúl Ruidíaz got a look from just in front of goal but his shot was right at a defender on the line. Pumas opened the scoring on a soft penalty — albeit one that was unlikely to be changed under review regardless of which way it was called on the field — in the 38th minute. Fully 10 minutes after regulation time had ended the referee blew his whistle to end the first leg and send the two teams back to Seattle level at 2-2.

Since losing the 2020 Mexican league Apertura final, this continental competition has been Pumas’ best bet to accomplish this goal. Lillini has brought out the best of journeymen players like Meritao, Diogo and Rogerio. Neither first-choice center back appears in the top 20 of WhoScored's defender rankings, with Xavier Arreaga coming in at 31 and Jackson Ragen ranked 37. Raul Ruidiaz looks finally healthy as well, a boost in the attack that had stalled with Will Bruin maintaining the starting spot. As you've probably figured out, that means no MLS side has ever won the competition in its current format. While that doesn't exactly inspire a parade, picking up draws in places like Honduras and Mexico, and on a cross-country trip at NYCFC is undoubtedly a positive. The Mexican side has never won multiple games against any MLS side, just one win apiece against New England, Dallas, Houston, and NYCFC. But the Sounders have been especially stout on the road, picking up results in multiple locations. In all three previous attempts, the MLS side then lost the home leg. In now all four CONCACAF Champions League finals contested between MLS and Liga MX sides across two legs, the MLS side has staved off defeat in the away leg. While the Sounders have put together a solid string of results both domestically and abroad, this isn't a team that's blowing out the opposition on any front, and it will take a strong performance across two legs to make history. If it's going to happen, now is the time.

Pumas averages 5.3 corners per match in CONCACAF Champions League play, but in Liga MX play that drops to 4.8, and even in the continental semifinals against Cruz Azul, Pumas only mustered three corners in each leg. A draw is great value in the 5/2 range, but hedging towards a prolific Seattle team that plays well on the road is a good play. Seattle isn't exactly a juggernaut, and the results have been spotty at best early on in league play, but it's an experienced, veteran squad with good pace and technical ability. Pumas is no joke of a team, but the Liga MX side has produced upset after upset to reach this stage, and at some point the magic will run out.
