To his great credit, Chris Paul is pretty easily the most annoying player in the NBA to play against. He is prepared to flop or half-flop at any given ...
Like Jones, Green, and New Orleans’ other rookie Trey Murphy III, Alvarado has earned a place in the league, and as an important part of a cool young core. I consider it a perverse sign of success that Alvarado got Paul so mad he had to kick him in the dick and balls. He picks Paul up in the backcourt and clearly infuriates him by remaining in his face the entire time he has the ball. Alvarado was great in the Pelicans wins in Game 2 and Game 4, scoring seven straight in the fourth quarter of Game 2 and putting on a show in Game 4. Each and every Paul possession, on both sides of the court, is a masterclass in finding the line between committing an infraction and being an irritant. He is prepared to flop or half-flop at any given moment out on the court, steal a trip to the free throw line by baiting in a reach, or approach the absolute limit of how much he can push and jockey and harass an opponent without earning a foul of his own.
Chris Paul appeared to kick Jose Alvarado in the groin when he pulled up for a jumper near the free-throw line with 4:36 left before halftime.
The All-Star shooting guard is expected to miss a few weeks with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain he suffered in Game 2. Paul has butted heads with a number of Pelicans players, including Brandon Ingram and rookie Herb Jones — who got chippy with Paul in Game 4. “That’s one thing I wanted to do actually, I got him on my list.”
Chris Paul shined as the Suns take a 3-2 advantage in the NBA Playoffs but he has yet to shake himself free of the Pelicans' Jose Alvarado.
The two guards may have different skills and are on vastly different standings as players but the Chris Paul-Jose Alvarado squabble is one of the most entertaining rivalries in this year’s NBA playoffs. He is the sneakiest defender of the Pelicans’ rookies, a group that features Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III. The Suns have the upper hand despite them, but it has not been easy. He raised his foot on a fadeaway jumper and kicked the Pelicans’ youngster in the privates.
Alvarado has frustrated the Suns throughout their first-round series, and forced another eight-second violation on Chris Paul.

Some basketball writers were not fans of a move by the Suns' Chris Paul against the Pelicans' Jose Alvarado in Game 5.
Matt Hladik wrote: "Over the years, Chris Paul has developed a reputation for pushing the envelope in terms of being physical and pesky on the court. Ryan Phillips wrote: "It appears Paul pulled up, his leg hung there for a second, then he kicked it out. That is a classic Chris Paul in every way." He wrote: "Chris Paul has been smallest player on the court in almost every game he’s played in during his incredible 17-year NBA career. Last night, Paul appeared to go a bit too far late in the second quarter of the Suns’ 112-97 Game 5 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. With 4:36 to go before halftime, Paul pulled up for a jump shot at the foul line while guarded by Jose Alvarado, the Pelicans’ equally feisty reserve guard. Whatever you want to call him, he’s far worse than (Grayson) Allen. And he’s not done yet."
Throughout the hard-fought series between the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans, there's been one constant: Jose Alvarado has hounded Chris Paul.
Nearly two decades after he got Julius Hodge below the belt in college, Chris Paul seemed to be at it again during Tuesday's playoff game.
Alvarado loves to bother opposing guards in the backcourt, drawing steals and forcing eight-second violations. The pesky guard Alvarado has been a thorn in Paul’s side all series. While rising up for a jump shot and apparently trying to draw a foul, Paul kicked Alvarado down south.
After the Phoenix Suns Game 5 debacle, veteran point guard Chris Paul didn't hold back when speaking about the...
He said “come on” to an official at the scorers table and was hit with a tech. “In a playoff game that physical, that’s amazing. Paul expressed his frustration with both calls to reporters after the game.
