In 2022, however, he's laid down the foundation of a big season. Thus far, the Yanks are no doubt pleased with their investment, as Rizzo has been their most productive hitter by a substantial margin. He's now slashing .283/.411/.733. Coming into Tuesday night, he boasted an OPS+ of 181 for the season, so this is more than "just" one explosive night with the bat. What's the proper reaction when you hit a 327-foot home run? Home run No. 3 on the night went just 327 feet, which makes it a product of Yankee Stadium. But, yes, it counts. 🤌 *intensifies* 🤌— New York Yankees (@Yankees) #TeamRizzo pic.twitter.com/0CEG2ozDu6 April 27, 2022

- We've talked about it a lot recently but Ken Rosenthal and Eno Sarris of The Athletic reported that batted ball distances have decreased most in the 20 stadiums with newly-installed humidors. Chris Bassitt, Mets: The trade to New York put Bassitt on many breakout lists, and he hasn't disappointed thus far. Every night the Fantasy Baseball Today team dives into all of the happenings around the MLB from top performers to injuries, trades and more. Sandy Alcantara, Marlins: Drafted in that second tier of starters on the verge of breaking out, we might be seeing that come to realization for Alcantara now. He tweaked his left knee while trying to retreat back to the first base bag on a pickoff attempt. Wendle filled up the stat sheet again on Tuesday night by slamming a three-run homer and adding a stolen base to boot. He now has four homers on the season. There is cautiously optimistic news on the oft-injured speedster who left Tuesday's game with a knee injury. Logan Gilbert, Mariners: Another outing, another shutout for Gilbert. And this time he struck out seven in just 5 2/3 innings. It was also a big night on Tuesday for several starting pitchers drafted in the second, third and even fourth tiers during the early spring drafting season: Mets SP Chris Bassitt, Angels SP Patrick Sandoval, Marlins SP Sandy Alcantara, Giants SP Carlos Rodon and emerging ace Logan Gilbert of the Mariners. We'll get to these standout pitching performances below. He also dove into several players off to slow starts that you want to make sure you do NOT drop hastily -- including Bobby Witt Jr. who collected a pair of hits on Tuesday. What an exciting night it was in Major League Baseball on Tuesday, but especially for Yankees 1B Anthony Rizzo, who did something for the first time in his career.

MLB fans had plenty of thoughts about Yankee Stadium following Rizzo's three-homer game.

He just saw the opportunity, as a power-hitting lefty, to play there. He didn’t design the stadium dimensions. The Orioles broadcast practically had a meltdown over it.

Yankees news: Aaron Boone truth bomb on Anthony Rizzo's 3 ... (ClutchPoints)

Yankees manager Aaron Boone's take on Anthony Rizzo's three-homer game against the Orioles will make New York fans very excited.

“I think he will be someone who should be able to take advantage of that porch,” Boone continued. Given that the veteran first baseman is on pace for a career-high 62 percent pull rate this season per FanGraphs, Yankees fans should expect Rizzo to take advantage of that short porch more often. Rizzo’s incredible performance drew an exciting take from Yankees manager Aaron Boone, as reported by Lindsey Adler of The Athletic.

Anthony Rizzo Is Enjoying The Compact Confines Of Yankee Stadium (The Cold Wire)

Yankee Stadium has always been known for its short right field porch. That plays directly into left-handed power hitters' hands, or any hitter that.

The 2016 World Series champion and MVP candidate is back to his old self and is mashing homers like he used to early on in his tenure with the Chicago Cubs. In his first full season with the Yanks, Rizzo is looking like his old self, a guy capable of winning an MVP Award. Yankee Stadium might just be the perfect place for a guy like Rizzo as he looks to regain his stroke.

New York Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo is having a hell of a start, capped by his three-home run game on Tuesday against the Orioles.

But Rizzo, 32, is also firmly in his prime, something the rest of the league seems to have forgotten. Both Olson and Freeman are in their primes, slugging from the left side for two of the National League’s best lineups. He arrived from Chicago and energized the Bombers in a hotly-contested, well-pitched road series in Miami, then returned home and tested positive for COVID almost immediately.

Yankees news: Anthony Rizzo joins Babe Ruth with 3-homer night (ClutchPoints)

Anthony Rizzo joined Yankees' legend Babe Ruth in the record books with his 3 home run night in New York's victory over the Orioles.

It speaks to how intelligent of a hitter he truly is. He wanted to hit the pitch before it broke away. He points out an adjustment that Rizzo made during his first at-bat.

Yankees: Anthony Rizzo's 'Babe Ruth game' by the numbers (FanSided)

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit three home runs on Tuesday night, but that doesn't tell the entire story.

In doing so, he moved up half a foot as he expected a changeup on the inside part of the plate. Rizzo was feeling himself so much that he made adjustments without any help from a hitting instructor in the middle of an at-bat. Against the Orioles on Tuesday, Rizzo hit three home runs, becoming the second-oldest Yankees to do so.

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo seems destined to become a short porch icon (The Athletic)

Rizzo hit three homers to right field Tuesday, taking advantage of the short porch at Yankee Stadium.

Rizzo got three trips around the bases and a curtain call on Tuesday night. For Rizzo and the Yankees, who homered a total of five times in a 12-8 win over Baltimore, the home runs counted all the same. The Yankees got a win. Since the start of the 2018 season, the Yankees have had 6,613 plate appearances by a left-handed hitter — the fifth-lowest total among MLB teams in that time. For nearly six seconds on Tuesday, everyone at Yankee Stadium watched as a ball Rizzo hit in the third inning just kept drifting toward the right field wall. After Tuesday’s three-homer performance, Rizzo is now the home run leader across MLB with eight dingers in 73 plate appearances. Aaron Hicks and Marwin Gonzalez are switch-hitters, giving the Yankees four options for left-handed plate appearances on their current roster. Rizzo played the batted ball probabilities game and won. Outfielder Brett Gardner had to keep playing the role of designated lefty. He homered three times against the Orioles on Tuesday night, each batted ball winding up in right field with a meager average distance of 350 feet per home run. For a few years, the Yankees allowed their lineup to be overwhelmingly right-handed, they hardly emphasized infield defense, and they valued power-at-all-costs over a good contact-heavy approach at the plate. “I think he will be someone who should be able to take advantage of that porch,” Boone continued.

Anthony Rizzo Headlines A Surprising 2022 Home Run Chase (The Cold Wire)

New York Yankees slugger Anthony Rizzo is off to a hot start and appears to be back to his old self. Three homers against the Baltimore Orioles.

He appears to have put his struggles behind him and reclaimed his place as one of the elite hitters in the game. He seems to be back to his old MVP candidate self and is popping home runs just like he used to do when he was with the Chicago Cubs. After some struggles in recent years, Rizzo appears to have rediscovered his power stroke and has put himself in some solid company with some of the best hitters in the business, though that should come as no surprise given Rizzo’s track record.
