Heat vs. Hawks: Miami is controlling Trae Young, putting on a clinic ... (CBSSports.com)

The Miami Heat just put on a clinic in how to control and win an NBA playoff game: Limit your own mistakes, and take away what the other team does best.

Atlanta is so outmatched in this series that Young has to be the best player, by an appreciable margin, for it to have any chance, and the Heat know that. It was never going to lose without beating itself or getting upended by a Trae Young hurricane. That it was only a minus-1.5 line to the Heat at tip was an insult. The Miami Heat just put on a clinic in how to control and win an NBA playoff game: Limit your own mistakes, and take away what the other team does best. The Heat racked up 15 offensive rebounds despite the return of Clint Capela, and for the fourth straight game Young was unable to get downhill into his floater zone, where he becomes almost indefensible. From the jump he attacked the paint, where Miami dominated Atlanta to the tune of a plus-22 margin.

Four Takeaways from Hawks Game Four Loss (Sports Illustrated)

All signs pointed towards a Hawks victory in Game Four. They were riding the momentum of a Game Three comeback, State Farm Arena sold out, Clint Capela was ...

Last night, Hunter led the team in scoring by a wide margin. This has been the toughest playoff series of his career. Believe it or not, De'Andre Hunter leads the Hawks in scoring this postseason. Clearly, with a 3-1 series lead and Vincent's aptitude, there is no need to rush Lowry back anytime soon, which is great news for the Heat. If there was one area where the Hawks had the advantage in this series, it would be the paint. Instead, they got outrebounded 48-41 and outscored in the paint 48-26.

Shorthanded Heat Respond with 24-point Win Over Hawks in Game 4 (CalBearsMaven)

Even without star guard Kyle Lowry and playing on the road, the Miami Heat trounce the Atlanta Hawks.

Miami is steadied by veteran leadership though, under the guidance of Butler, Lowry, and de facto Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Udonis Haslem. Coach Spoelstra will count on his leaders to keep the team’s focus on taking care of business at home to close out the series. It would do them a lot of good to close up the shop for good on Tuesday night so they can rest and prepare for the next round. If they let Game Five slip away, they risk exhausting an already depleted line up and the possibility of a potentially embarrassing implosion. Their increased playing time comes after a second rocky season from Robinson, who signed a massive 90-million-dollar deal after his breakout 2020 campaign that saw Miami reach the Finals. Robinson played only nine minutes in Game Four and will likely be the odd man out when Lowry returns. Capela’s return was just about the only positive for the Hawks as Miami ran the home squad off the floor in a 110 to 86 rout. It looked like he’d been a starter all season as he sliced through the defense and found open cutters in stride for easy opportunities. This wouldn’t be quite so detrimental to the Heat if he were shooting as consistently as he used to, but his 3pt average has wavered over the past two seasons. If Hawks defenders even gave him room to breathe, he was on his way to the rim for a bucket. But if we’ve learned anything about Jimmy Butler rumors and “sources”, it’s that they’re about as reliable as Shaq at the free throw line. Miami forced Atlanta into 15 turnovers and held the Hawks to their lowest point total of the series so far. Victor Oladipo finally got some minutes after spending most of the regular season and all of the playoffs on the bench. Things looked like they were swinging in Atlanta’s favor on Sunday evening leading up to their Game Four clash with the Miami Heat. Fresh off a thrilling one-point win in game three, the Hawks gave word that starting center Clint Capela would return to action for the first time this postseason just as the Heat announced their veteran point guard Kyle Lowry would be unavailable due to injury.

The Heat put on a 26-4 run and the Hawks were on the back foot going into halftime. In this game Young had nine points and five assists which goes to show how well the Heat can defend. Delon Wright and Danilo Gallinari were doing good things on the floor and the Hawks enjoyed an eight point lead.

Heat relying on depth to eliminate Hawks in Game 5 (CBS sports.com)

The Miami Heat hit Tuesday with one goal: Find a way to win another game against the Atlanta Hawks.

As much as guard play has been emphasized in the series, the Hawks haven't received much in the post. "They have so many guys who can shoot the 3 and take it off the dribble." Spoelstra said the ability to be creative defensively is one of the bonuses for the Heat, particularly while dealing with Young and his Atlanta teammates. Trae Young, one of the NBA's top scorers, was limited to nine points in Game 4. In the playoffs, things happen and you just have to prepare and be ready. "The guys are going to pick it up for us.

Has Kevin Knox shown enough for the Atlanta Hawks moving forward? (Soaring Down South)

In the first game pf the series Knox played just under five minutes and went for ten points. He scored in a multitude of way, going 2-of-4 from deep, 3-of-5 ...

The Hawks have a high salary bill for next season but given they are one game from elimination, they are going to beed to change many things this offseason. Knox has shown the ability to microwave points and this would certainly help stop a run which is going to be crucial for the Hawks to win games. This was no fluke though, Knox came on for junk time in the fourth game of the series.

Gameday Rundown: HEAT vs. Hawks Game 5 (Heat.com)

Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami HEAT Sunday, April 26 @ 7:00 PM Series Record: 3-1 Miami.

For as much as the Hawks had zero defensive answers for the HEAT as a team in Game 1, they had nothing to offer Butler alone in Game 2. And the fourth quarter was what we often saw from the HEAT in fourth quarters, with offense stuck in the mud and Miami outscored 16-9 in the clutch, that likely ranked as question mark number one heading into the postseason. The third player in HEAT history to post a 45-5-5 in the playoffs – joining Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, who each did it once – and the first to post that line with zero turnovers. They filled the margins. They crashed the glass. It was the sort of run that would end any normal game, but the Hawks were ready to fight for their season as they closed a 16-point lead in the final minutes – with Kyle Lowry out for the game with a left leg injury – and stole the last-second win, 111-110, off a Trae Young floater. The Hawks didn’t. Second chances and Tyler Herro (24 points on 22 shots) kept Miami in the game, but if we were to sum this one up it would be that the third quarter, full of glorious defense and balanced offense, was so much of what the HEAT did so well this season. A virtuoso performance for the record books, and one that puts Miami up 2-0 in the series with their 115-105 victory. Miami looked like they were going to pull away in the third as they went up by as much as 16, but then the offense – as has happened throughout this season and is something we’ll continue to keep an eye on – hit a lull and the Hawks got it under five as the minutes ticked down in the fourth. Game 3: It didn’t seem like the Hawks made enough of a move when they had their chance, because Miami’s defense had another gear to hit. If you think back to last September, once the HEAT’s roster was put together, and remember what you thought this team – full of experienced veterans and defensive talent – would look like once they hit the postseason, this is probably exactly what you thought it would look like. He hit jumpers – more on that below – he got to the rim, he burrowed his way into and through defenders and he turned steals, steals born out of his remarkable combination of instincts and quickness, into dunks.

The Hawks are going to need to be efficient from the perimeter if they want to extend this series. However, the defense was really the story for the Heat as they held the Hawks to just 40.0 percent shooting from the field. After the Hawks jumped out to an early advantage, the Heat rebounded to gain the scoring edge over the final three quarters even though they were without veteran point guard Kyle Lowry. Now the Heat have an opportunity to close out the series on Tuesday.
