DEGA BABY. It's gonna be a wild one at Talladega this afternoon, and we got sunshine in the forecast so no worry about rain cutting the day short.
However, I’m sticking with the Penske boys today, taking Ryan Blaney, Austin Cindric and Joey Logano to all finish top 10. And 6-time Talladega winner Brad Keselowski will look to earn a spot in the playoffs. At those high speeds, your day can be ended pretty easily through no fault of your own.

LaJoie was 16th in the June 2020 race at Talladega, and 7th in the October 2019 run at this track. He started 24th at the Daytona 500, and worked his way up to a 14th-place finish on the superspeedway to open the season. He managed an 11th-place run in the Duel No. 2 during Speedweeks. He had a respectable 15th at Las Vegas, and brought it home 5th at Atlanta after starting 33rd. And while I don’t think Atlanta is a perfect comp to Talladega, it raced much like a superspeedway event following the offseason reconfiguring. Despite just a 28th-place finish in the Daytona 500 due to a crash late in the race, Stenhouse was still tied for sixth in average running position while leading the fifth-most laps. Byron was in second place in the Daytona 500 just prior to the end of Stage 1 before getting taken out in a wreck that was not of his doing. Keselowski and teammate Chris Buescher swept the Duel races, showing their equipment is plenty fast at superspeedways, before Kez posted the best average running position and led the most laps en route to a ninth-place finish in the Daytona 500. And while Keselowski has clearly seen a massive step down in equipment after leaving Team Penske to take on a role as a driver/owner at Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing this season, he proved that there is little-to-no downgrade at superspeedways at Daytona back in February. Busch has been sponsored by M&M’s since he joined Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008, but the company informed the team ahead of the season that it was leaving NASCAR at the end of this year. Busch leads all active drivers with 60 Cup wins, and he’s won 223 victories across NASCAR’s three national series. Deciphering Busch’s curt remarks Saturday was at times a slippery slope. “So, I don’t deal with the sponsorship stuff directly,” Coy Gibbs said. I think any time you win, it helps.” If it don’t, it don’t. Goodbye.”

Ross Chastain roared to his second win of the NASCAR Cup Series season Sunday, leading only the frantic final lap at Talladega Superspeedway.
He was involved in a wreck coming to the checkered flag and finished 17th in the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota. Tried to defend the 5 (Larson), but was too far ahead already and obviously it opened the door for the 1 (Chastain). “We were fast all day long, had speed and especially being out front there at the end I know we had a shot, just couldn’t quite close it out.’’ Larson pulled out of line to the outside, poised to make a pass for the lead. They just kept going up and moving out of the way.” The 29-year-old Floridian led only the last — typically frantic — lap in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday to take his second career NASCAR Cup Series victory.

Logano was caught up in the biggest wreck of the afternoon, until cars collected at the flag. But the race ran relatively crash-free to the end. Larson said that he thought that he executed a “near perfect” job for himself until the last lap. When you’re close, I was in the exact position I wanted to be in. Logano collected multiple cars after spinning from the third row on a restart in Stage 2. “Every time we come to one of these things, cars crash,” Logano said. He stayed low and held his line for his second win in the last five races. “With eight (laps) to go, I was like, ‘No I’m not going up (to the top) there. “That hasn’t happened since the ‘60s. I don’t know, farther back ... so, it’s wild.” “I felt pretty good, but that top line was getting momentum,” Jones said. He smashed a watermelon from atop his No. 1 Chevrolet, a signature celebration for a win by the melon farmer. I’m not going to lose the race for us,’” Chastain said on FOX.

Talladega lived up to the billing with a thrilling last lap that saw several cars wind up in the wall at the finish.
Now here comes Byron and Jones. Jones to the outside of Kyle Larson for the lead! Chaos in the lead pack with cars in the wall and spinning to the bottom, and Ross Chastain takes his second win of the season and his first at Talladega! Jones and Byron on the outside, Larson and Chastain on the inside. Byron is trying to get up on Jones and push him forward. Larson gets a big push from Chastain. Now the outside comes up for the lead! The pack swallows him up, and Ross Chastain makes the move to the inside! - Mr. Superspeedway did it again, as Michael McDowell found the top 10 by the finish and crossed the line in eighth. The end result was nearly a dozen cars crashed in Turn 1, with Logano being the most notable victim left to lament the nature of superspeedway racing. Chastain beat Austin Dillon, Kyle Busch, and the rest of the lead pack in another frantic ending to a 500-mile race at Talladega. But in doing so, Jones opened the bottom up for Ross Chastain, who scooted through as Jones got swallowed up by the lead pack and finished sixth. Others simply found who they were running with as they both tried to advance through the field and also peeled off for green flag stops throughout the day. They kept going up, and they just kept moving out of the way!"
Ross Chastain stormed to the win at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. See what he and his competitors had to say after a hectic charge to the checkers.
I felt like if I could get to the bottom I could get to eighth or ninth if I was lucky. It was a hard hit but I feel a lot better than I thought I was going to when I saw the hit coming. I tried to make a valid effort there to get it halfway lower on the back straightaway to get clean air to the motor. I felt like we were being patient, just trying to wait for the right time to try and get aggressive and get in the right position. Every year we come back; you have to finish the race to have a chance. It keeps happening every week and every time we come to a superspeedway and it is going to happen again here in a little bit. As soon as Stage 2 started, I could feel the energy just wasn’t the same and it had ramped up for whatever reason with way too many laps to go. We were getting pushed back and forth and I was the one that got shuffled to the right and hit the wall and came back in front of the field. There at the end it was like eight to go, I was like, I’m not going up there again. Aric Almirola — Finished 13th:“We tried to play it safe in the first stage and stayed out of trouble for the most part all day. I wish we could have had a shot at it but we just weren’t there at the end.” Austin Dillon — Finished 2nd: “We came from eighth there on that last lap, just kind of rode the bottom and got people baited off the top.

Bell was penalized for speeding on pit road and had to restart from the rear of the field. A group of Fords pit on Lap 34 to begin a cycle of green-flag pit stops. When the race returned to green on Lap 86, Byron was followed by Truex, Elliott, Larson and Blaney. Bell started on the pole and took control early. With a shove from Wallace, Jones moved into the lead on the restart. B.J. McLeod spun off Turn 2 on the restart after losing a right-rear tire to place the race back under caution. Larson, with a push from Byron, reclaimed the lead on Lap 66. Kyle Busch was penalized for removing equipment and had to restart from the rear of the field, as did Austin Dillon, who had an uncontrolled tire on his stop. One lap later, Jones got a shove to move out front as Blaney moved into second and Harvick third. Erik Jones was leading on the final of 188 laps but the drivers behind him were getting antsy to make a move. Several Ford drivers kicked off a final round of green flag pit stops on Lap 158. We started the year with a lot of races open [for funding]. We’re almost full now, and it’s because of the vision of Justin Marks. He’s solidly locked into the playoffs with TrackHouse, a second-year team owned by former driver Justin Marks and Pitbull. Chastain then bit into a hunk of watermelon but this time asked on Fox Sports whether any seeds had gotten stuck in his beard.
