The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. for 44 counties in central and southwestern Iowa.

The watch means that conditions remain favorable for severe storms to develop. By 9:20 p.m, the delay was down to six minutes. A severe thunderstorm watch once encompassed 44 of Iowa's counties. A band of storms that produced multiple rounds of severe weather and one possible tornado are moving past the Des Moines metro area and into eastern Iowa on Saturday night. As of 9:40 p.m., more than 2,600 residents in the Des Moines met were without power, according to MidAmerican Energy. That's down from more than 8,000 reported earlier in the evening by KCCI. The storms triggered two tornado warnings in the Des Moines area between 6:15 and 6:40 p.m. By 7 p.m, both warnings had been allowed to expire.
