“I was so nervous and I wanted to do it in front of the hometown, Detroit. I wanted to do it in front of these fans.” We scored a lot of runs, we got a lot of hits, we got the win. This is the latest of many milestones for Cabrera, a future Hall of Famer who will now set his sights on climbing the all-time hit leaderboard. “We showed up today too. “It was a very emotional moment for me and my family, to be honest with you guys. DETROIT – It’s safe to say the entirety of the Detroit Tigers fanbase is proud of Miguel Cabrera for becoming one of only dozens in the league to reach 3,000 hits during a home game Saturday.
Who's in line to be the next member of the 3000-hit club?
He's also a generational talent with the bat and is just 23 years old. He had 182 hits in 2012 and 190 in 2013 before three straight years in the low-170s. Still, Cabrera might be a better comparison and he had 654 hits through his age-23 season. As someone who debuted very young and gets a ton of plate appearances, he fits the profile of a player who could rack up hits. Of course, he only had 150 hits in 2019 and 157 last year. He hasn't fallen off like Altuve has, but his career high for hits in a season is 191 (2018). If he has six full seasons of 191 hits left after this year, that gets him to 2,868 plus however many hits he has left in 2022. He's currently at 1,783 in his age-32 season, and he's currently on the injured list. He walked 99 times in 2019 and 100 times last season. He's also 29 years old and a touch behind Harper at 1,259 hits. The pandemic-shortened 2020 season hurt, obviously, but Altuve had just 169 hits in 2018, 149 in 2019 and 167 last year. In fact, trying to peg who might get to 3,000 hits next is a chore. This is the first time we've seen a player get there since Albert Pujols did in 2018 and that actually was the fourth straight season a player got there, after A-Rod in 2015, Ichiro Suzuki in 2016 and Adrián Beltré in 2017.
Phillies slugger Nick Castellanos posted a funny throwback photo on his Instagram to congratulate former Tigers teammate Miguel Cabrera on his 3000th hit.
But a few years later, Dombrowski managed to convince his former team to part with the young star. After spending the first five seasons of his career with the then-Florida Marlins, they traded Cabrera to the Tigers ahead of the 2008 season, and he’s been in Detroit ever since. When it ended in early March, Dombrowski convinced Phillies managing partner John Middleton to exceed the luxury tax for the first time in franchise history in order to ink Castellanos to a five-year deal.
Now that Detroit Tigers DH Miguel Cabrera is the 33rd MLBer to rack up 3000 hits, it's time to see how he compares to the 32 who did it before him.

Future MLB Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera reaches hit No. 3000 during a Detroit Tigers home game at Comerica Park.
“His humility, passion for having fun and genuine love of the city of Detroit are completely unmatched” said Avila, who was the Marlins scouting director that signed the Venezuelan slugger to his rookie contract as a teenager. Cabrera’s ability to put the ball where the defense isn’t is a result of tireless dedication to his craft and a fierce plate discipline. The 6’4” righty towers over many of his MLB counterparts but attributes his success to hitting like a small guy. In Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Cabrera took pitcher Antonio Senzatela’s 1-1 fastball and sent it the opposite way to right field, a strategy that has defined his career. The elusive career milestone comes less than a year after the slugger cranked out his 500th home run last August. He is just the 33rd player in baseball history to reach the 3,000-hit mark and only the seventh to do it while also smashing 500 home runs. In his MLB debut, the Florida Marlins rookie stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the eleventh inning, trailing by a run, with the home crowd roaring in support.
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers toasted Miguel Cabrera and his 3,000th hit on Saturday night and then opened up the floor for a speech.
He’s the 33rd member of the 3,000-hit club, the seventh player born outside the United States to reach the mark and the first from Venezuela. Cabrera told his teammates what he had told the media earlier: He was legitimately nervous because he wanted to get No. 3,000 in front of the home crowd in Detroit. The size and intensity of the crowd impressed him and he didn’t want fans to go home disappointed. Cabrera is just the seventh player in baseball to have 500 home runs and 3,000 hits, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez and Eddie Murray.
The Detroit Tigers designated hitter became the 33rd player in the league to reach the milestone. Rockies shortstop José Iglesias ran over to hug his former ...

A mainstay of the game for 20 seasons, Cabrera's first manager recalls his star pupil's only limitation being the number of times he could get him to the ...
But the deal was a coup for the Tigers, who would win four consecutive division titles and an American League pennant in Cabrera’s prime. McKeon never altered the fundamental rules of baseball, of course, but he sure was right about Cabrera. In the afterglow of his 2012 triple crown season, the Tigers rewarded Cabrera with an eight-year, $240 million contract that would not begin until 2016. Of the 104 players with at least 5,000 plate appearances in those seasons, Cabrera had the best on-base plus slugging percentage: .968. This guy was confident and knew he had the ability to do it.” Two of the players — outfielder Cameron Maybin and the left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller — would have long careers. He had never played that position, but started there for seven of the Marlins’ last 10 postseason games, on their way to a World Series victory over the Yankees. Cabrera was 16 when the Marlins signed him from Venezuela for $1.9 million in 1999. At the time, Cabrera had collected only 84 career hits in the regular season. The crowd at Comerica Park gave him a raucous ovation and the Tigers, who he has often carried over the years, ended up beating the Rockies, 13-0. He is not a free swinger, exactly, but his aim is to hit his way on base. When Miguel Cabrera is on your team, the waiting is the hardest part.
Mike Trout, Marcus Stroman and other players paid tribute to Miguel Cabrera on Twitter after the Detroit Tigers legend recorded his 3000th career hit.
So congrats Miggy, you truly are a legend.— Trevor "IamTrevorMay" May (@IamTrevorMay) April 23, 2022 Just having a guy, fresh off a triple crown, tell you one of your pitches plays is so big for a rookie, and definitely helped me build confidence as a big leaguer. Huge congrats to— Brent Suter (@bruter24) @MiguelCabreraon 3k hits!! One of the greatest teammates and smartest hitters I've ever met. One of the best to ever do it! In addition to those laurels, Cabrera has won seven Silver Sluggers and helped lead the Marlins to the 2003 World Series title.
DETROIT -- Of course Miguel Cabrera's 3000th career hit went to right field. It's how he got here. “True story, we were on the \[team\] plane, ...

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has amassed 3000 hits, many off MLB greats. So we asked them what makes him one of the greatest ever.
I got the second pitch, I got the changeup, I got the homer, but I hit it to left field instead of right." He was the guy that could beat you, and in some circumstances, he was the only guy that could beat you, and he still produced the same numbers he produced as that guy." Kluber: "I think he's one of the best hitters of our generation. We would shift him sometimes to the pull side, and then he would hit a fastball up and in, and it may or may not make it to the outfield grass, but he just kind of bunted the other way. Glavine: "Sometimes where maybe I got him out, maybe I struck him out on a pitch that either he got fooled by or he knew was coming and still missed, he would look at you and give you that grin. He was in the heart of the lineup. I had to give into him and try to get the other guys out." Because he was so good, he was willing to chase and expand the zone, and he could do a lot of damage doing so. He was always going to hit .300. He was always going to have 25-plus homers." When you throw up and in to a guy, if he's gonna really get the barrel to it, he has to speed up a little bit, which forfeits a lot of other pitches he may see in that at-bat. Glavine: "You look at a lineup and try to identify guys that you don't want to let beat you, but at the same time, you look forward to those confrontations. At the same time, if I got lazy and didn't make a quality pitch to him, he was going to hurt me.
Miguel Cabrera joined the 3000-hit club Saturday with a single in the bottom of the first inning off fellow Venezuelan Antonio Senzatela.
After reaching 2,999 hits Wednesday, Cabrera was 0-for-3 on Thursday against the New York Yankees. He was intentionally walked in the eighth inning, his fourth and final plate appearance of the game. "And I think for him as a person, as a player who's gone through ups, downs, everywhere in between. Cabrera added a two-run single in the sixth inning before being replaced by pinch runner Eric Haase. The Tigers went on to win 13-0. It was good to see the fans come back to the stadium like that. "Special numbers," Cabrera said after the game. Moments later, Cabrera went behind home plate to embrace his mother, wife, son and daughter on the field.
The 39-year-old added to his Hall-of-Fame legacy, becoming the 33rd person to accomplish the feat.
Now, with the milestone in the rearview mirror, his focus can continue to be on team achievements as the Tigers try to win the AL Central for the first time since 2014. Despite all of the talk about the hits record, Cabrera has remained instead on helping the Tigers win games. Tigers legend and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera joined the 3,000 hit club on Saturday against the Rockies, cementing his spot as the 33rd member of the illustrious list.

Miggy has and continues to build his status as one of the greatest Tigers of all-time." The Marlins won the World Series that year. He then exchanged a hug with Rockies shortstop Jose Iglesias, a friend and former Tigers teammate.
Cabrera is the seventh Latino player to make the 3000 chart — the hit tied him on the overall list with Pirates great Roberto Clemente.
That year, he won his first of two straight MVP awards and helped Detroit reach the World Series, during a stretch that included four straight division championships. He announced his presence to the whole baseball world that October. Cabrera is the seventh Latino player to make the 3,000 chart. He went 0 for 3 Thursday and was intentionally walked his final time up against the Yankees, drawing loud boos and chants from Detroit fans. Pujols was the previous player to reach 3,000 hits, doing it in 2018. He added a two-run single in the sixth, exited for a pinch-runner and drew another huge cheer. Moments later, Cabrera went behind home plate to embrace his mother, wife, son and daughter on the field. All these years later, stamping his name onto the 3,000-hit list had a nice ring, too. Rockies shortstop José Iglesias, who played with Cabrera on the Tigers, came over to give his former teammate a big hug. The Tigers went on to win, 13-0. I’m happy for the people of Detroit to see it. Cabrera soon returned to first base, but he didn’t stay there for long.
With BreakingT having a finger on the pulse of big sports moments, there was no way they were going to miss out on a 3000 hit shirt, and with Miguel Cabrera ...
And while you’re here you might as well watch the magical moment one more time. Obviously the tee pays homage to the iconic movie cover of the Bernie Mac comedy Mr. 3000, but unlike the movie, Miguel Cabrera won’t have to come out of retirement to make his record hit (and hopefully won’t retire immediately after today’s game to open a mini-mall). You had to know it was coming.
Cabrera, an 11-time All-Star, has won two MVPs, a Triple Crown, four batting titles, seven Silver Sluggers and became a World Series champion with the Marlins ...

But Cabrera didn't get a chance to because Yankees manager Aaron Boone intentionally walked him to the dismay of many Tigers fans. Cabrera was a sure-fire Hall of Famer before Saturday but his 3,000th hit welcomed him into an even more exclusive club in baseball. Cabrera, who batted third, hit a single to right field on his very first at-bat to get the celebration started early.
Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera is now the seventh player in MLB history to have 3000 hits and 500 home runs in a career.
We're going to do our best that we can do for our team and for him, because he deserves it, and for the beautiful fans in Detroit." The deal kicked in before the 2016 season and takes Cabrera through the 2023 season. I was really happy to see all the fans." I know what the fans mean to our games and our team. "But his preparation is incredible, to play every day, and his mind, the way he talks. Cabrera went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Thursday, coming closest to a hit in his first at-bat, a high fly to left field in the first inning. A "Miggy Milestones" countdown board was installed last July at Comerica Park, reminding everyone in the ballpark of Cabrera's achievements. To see the fans come back to the stadium like that, it was very emotional. "His humility, passion for having fun and genuine love of the city of Detroit are completely unmatched and joining the 3,000 hit club only strengthens his standing as one of the game's all-time greats. "Like Tigers fans, I've been proud to witness Miggy's amazing and historic 3,000 hit and 500 home run milestones, putting him among a select few MLB legends," Tigers owner Christopher Ilitch said in a statement released during the game. It was doubtful he'd get a fourth plate appearance Thursday, but the Tigers, leading 1-0, put two runners in scoring position with two outs in the eighth inning to bring him up one final time. Former teammate José Iglesias, a Tiger from 2013-18, was the first to hug Cabrera on the field.
The Marlins legend is the 33rd player in MLB history to reach this prestigious milestone.
The decision to trade Cabrera to the Detroit Tigers at the 2007 MLB Winter Meetings was excruciatingly painful for Marlins fans, losing a champion and perennial All-Star who still had the potential to get even better. The 39-year-old is in the second-to-last guaranteed season of a $240 million contract extension. On Saturday afternoon, as he has done countless times before, Miguel Cabrera ripped a single through the right side of the infield.
There is a new member of baseball's hallowed 3,000-hit club. Saturday against the Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera slapped ...
Cabrera, as a result, is just the seventh member of the 3,000-hit club to have also homered 500 or more times, joining Henry Aaron, Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Willie Mays, Rafael Palmeiro, and Eddie Murray. Cabrera spent five years with the Marlins in total, receiving Most Valuable Player Award consideration in each of them. Cabrera, needless to say, will one day join Carew and Clemente (and Beltré and Pujols) in Cooperstown. New York trailed Thursday's game 1-0 at the time and the Tigers had runners on second and third with two outs in the eighth inning. The move gave the Yankees the left-on-left matchup against Austin Meadows. Strategically, it was a sensible move, though it did backfire when Meadows doubled in two runs. He is the 33rd member of Major League Baseball's 3,000-hit club.

If his 20-season MLB resume didn't cut it, his latest feat almost certainly makes him Hall of Fame material. The Tigers hitter is the first Major Leaguer from Venezuela — and only the seventh player — in the league's history to grab 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Albert Pujols, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro and Alex Rodriguez. Miguel Cabrera is the 1st Venezuelan-born player to get 3,000 hits in MLB history
On June 20, 2003, a 20-year-old left fielder named Miguel Cabrera \-\- four years removed from signing out of Venezuela -- made his Major League debut.
With that said, Cabrera does have at least one hit in each lineup slot, including exactly one in the leadoff spot (a pinch-hit single last July 7). • Cabrera obviously authored a number of fantastic seasons on his way to 3,000 hits, but one that clearly stands out is 2012, when he hit .330 with 44 homers, 139 RBIs, the first of back-to-back American League MVP Awards and the first Triple Crown in either league since 1967. • Saturday marked the 1,852nd different game in which Cabrera has recorded a hit. • Cabrera only recorded one 200-hit season on his way to 3,000 but was extremely consistent for a long period of time. • Cabrera’s first 842 hits came with the Marlins, where he started his career. • Cabrera's 3,000 hits have come in 9,665 at-bats, resulting in a .310 career batting average that is the best among active players. Cabrera even went on to steal second base right after, one of his 39 career stolen bases. Among active Venezuelan players, Oakland’s Elvis Andrus (1,875 hits entering Saturday) is next on the list. Fast-forward 19 years, and Cabrera has added 2,999 more knocks to his ledger. On June 20, 2003, a 20-year-old left fielder named Miguel Cabrera -- four years removed from signing out of Venezuela -- made his Major League debut. Cabrera has recorded 1,882 singles, 599 doubles, 17 triples and 502 homers. The others are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez.
Colorado Rockies shortstop José Iglesias wanted to see Miguel Cabrera's 3000th career hit, in part because of the impact Cabrera has had on him.
Cabrera got three hits on Wednesday and went 0-for-3 with a controversial intentional walk in his final plate appearance against the Yankees on Thursday. He was a big part of my growth as a player and beyond baseball, we are pretty close too.” “I don’t know if we’ll see another (player get 3,000 hits),” Redmond said. I mean, I saw like 1,300 of (his hits), I deserve to be here for number 3,000,” Iglesias said, laughing. It doesn’t matter … He was a big part of my career. Entering Saturday’s doubleheader, Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera had 2,999 career hits.
Tigers star Miguel Cabrera delivered the 3000th hit of his decorated career Saturday, becoming the 33rd major leaguer to reach the milestone.
He announced his presence to the whole baseball world that October. That year, he won his first of two straight MVP awards and helped Detroit reach the World Series, during a stretch that included four straight division championships. Cabrera is the seventh Latino player to make the 3,000 chart. The Tigers, though, never won it all with their superstar. He went 0 for 3 Thursday and was intentionally walked his final time up against the Yankees, drawing loud boos and chants from Detroit fans. Pujols was the previous player to reach 3,000 hits, doing it in 2018. Moments later, Cabrera went behind home plate to embrace his mother, wife, son and daughter on the field. Rockies shortstop José Iglesias, who played with Cabrera on the Tigers, came over to give his former teammate a big hug. He’s in that, probably inner circle, of even the Hall of Fame. It’s been a special career,” Boone said. All these years later, stamping his name onto the 3,000-hit list had a nice ring, too. Cabrera soon returned to first base, but he didn’t stay there for long. He’s done it, you know, in bigger ballparks his entire career, between Florida and here also.

Espinal snapped a 2-2 tie with his one-out shot to left field off Astros reliever Blake Taylor (0-1) in the seventh inning. Milwaukee starter Adrian Houser (1-2) tossed six innings and gave up five hits and three runs to go along with three strikeouts and one walk. Jake Brentz (0-3) walked the first four batters of the eighth inning, with Julio Rodriguez’s walk pushing across the go-ahead run. Chisholm sparked a 14-hit attack, which included two hits each from Jesus Aguilar, Jesus Sanchez, Avisail Garcia and Joey Wendle. It was the second-highest run total the Marlins have produced this season. However, Adolis Garcia and Willie Calhoun followed with singles, prompting A’s manager Mark Kotsay to pull Montas in favor of Domingo Acevedo with runners at the corners. Orioles closer Jorge Lopez gave up a single to Trout in the ninth but nothing else and closed it out for his fourth save. Josh Naylor also hit a two-run homer for the Guardians. Wood (2-0) allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out five. Two of those runs were driven in by Ryan Mountcastle, who had three RBIs for the game. Trea Turner doubled and drove in both runs for Los Angeles. Padres starter Yu Darvish allowed one hit and three walks with seven strikeouts. Randal Grichuk had two hits for Colorado, which was playing just its third road game of the season. The two-time AL MVP is the seventh player in major league history with 3,000 hits and 500 home runs.

He also hit 30 or more home runs in five of the eight seasons. "Welcome to the club, buddy," Carew said in the video. "It’s a great club and very, very happy that you joined it. He also became the seventh player in MLB history to have 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. In that time span, he won back-to-back MVPs and made six All-Star appearances. "I knew that you had it in you because you used the whole field to hit.
Detroit Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera recorded his 3000th career hit on Saturday and the entire baseball world took notice.
"He made me the player I am ... he's like a brother to me." "He got here in 2008, I got here in 2009 and being able to watch him do his thing from a far for so many years was special," Stafford said. "But really, he came up and was a huge lift and spark for us in '03 and helped us win the World Series. But prior to the game, he admitted the two shared a moment that had a bit more anxiety. Among Venezuelans, there's no doubt he's the greatest. "Miggy has been an incredible influence in my career on and off the field, and this was a big moment for him." Among right-handed hitters, many believe the same. And those who were involved in it know what it means. Just ask the pitchers he faced When he was in the major leagues for the first time, I was 8 years old. "We just witnessed history," said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch after the game. "(Miggy) said, 'I couldn't sleep last night,' and I was like, 'Me either, so let's knock that out early ... you better hit one'."
Here's how every member of the 3000-hit club, including Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, got their milestone mark.
No. 3,000: On a night when the torch for Japanese baseball was passed from Suzuki — who had retired and moved into the Mariners’ front office the day before — to Shohei Ohtani, the Angels’ new star, their old star showed he still had a flame burning. Jeter added a double in the fifth, a single in the sixth and another single in the eighth to go 5-for-5. "I’ve been able to get some hits. He played just seven more games in the majors after the suspension. No. 3,000: Ripken singled to right in the fourth and chopped a ball off home plate to third for an infield single in the fifth, setting the stage for 3,000 when he came to the plate with two outs in the seventh and a runner on third. No. 3,000: Bob Boone called it. No. 3,000: After reaching 2,999 in his final at-bat on Sept. 9, Yastrzemski went 0-for-7 in two games combined against the Orioles and Yankees. A walk, a flyout and a groundout against former Cy Young winner Catfish Hunter did little to suggest that the 34,336 in attendance at Fenway Park would be witnessing history. No. 3,000: After back-to-back two-hit games to open the series in Cincinnati and get to 2,999, Aaron went 0-for-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. His first contact, leading off the bottom of the first, was a liner to the left fielder, who gloved it, then dropped it and made a bad throw, all as Rose steamed into second. No. 3,000: It was Collins vs. No. 3,000: Speaker, described as returning from “treatment of a dislocated knee,” picked up three hits as well in his milestone game, the last a single off Washington’s Tom Zachary in the ninth inning.
