Jazz vs. Mavericks Game 4 takeaways: Rudy Gobert's late dunk lifts ... (CBSSports.com)

The Utah Jazz bounced back from two straight defeats to take down the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday in Game 4 of their first-round series, 100-99.

Overall it was an impressive performance, especially considering he hadn't suited up in two weeks, and the Mavericks are glad to have him back. He got involved immediately, throwing a lob to Dwight Powell for the first basket of the game, before scoring one of his own a short time later. It was just a matter of time until he returned, though, and he did so on Saturday in Game 4. He finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds, and though he missed a number of free throws along the way, he earned those trips to the line by causing havoc on the offensive glass. It's worth noting that the above possession came after the Mavericks shot the lights out in the third quarter and retook the lead. Sure, that's kind of a basic expectation in the playoffs, but when a team hasn't responded well to adversity in recent weeks it's a positive sign. Mitchell found him -- a rare occurrence this season -- and Gobert threw down the huge alley-oop that turned out to be the game-winner. That's perhaps a bit unfair, but the way teams scheme against him at times is easy for everyone to see and poke fun at. Gobert, meanwhile, went for 17 points and 15 rebounds, as he caused havoc on the offensive glass and got to the line for 18 free throw attempts. Donovan Mitchell had a rough shooting night at 7-of-21 from the field, but converted a huge and-one in the final minute and finished with 23 points. Save for a hot shooting stretch of the third quarter, the Mavericks struggled to get into a rhythm offensively. Mavs vs. Jazz In-Game Tracker: Utah Endures Luka Doncic, Takes ... (Sports Illustrated)

All three games in the series have been decided by eight-or-fewer points.

Mavs star Luka Doncic had yet to play in the playoff series due to a left calf strain. Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie, two top Luka helpers, combined to shoot just 3 for 15. Dallas had its chances in Luka Doncic's 2022 postseason debut, and Doncic scored 30 in the 100-99 loss. Jalen Brunson has been elite, only turning the ball over three times in all three games. Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is set to make his return to the team's lineup for Game 4 against the Utah Jazz. NBA Playoffs Odds: Mavericks-Jazz Game 4 prediction, odds and pick (ClutchPoints)

The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz go at it for Game 4 of their Western Conference first-round series in a 4:30 PM ET tip on Saturday.

Take the Jazz on this one as they make their adjustments on matching up with Dallas. But regardless of Doncic’s status, look for the Jazz to come out firing in this must-win situation. This also allowed the Jazz to go downhill with the added speed. But bringing Doncic back for Saturday with the possibility of taking a stranglehold in this series with the chance to close out is enticing as well. But for the most part, he hasn’t looked like the All-Star that helped Utah to 49 wins this season. If Doncic continues to sit, the Mavericks could still roll the dice on the duo of Brunson and Dinwiddie to carry the load. Utah outscored Dallas by nine with the 25-year-old at the five. The Jazz also found success in going small in Game 3, putting Eric Paschall at center. On paper, Utah should really be the favorite in this series, especially considering Dallas’ injury situation. But the Jazz stormed back and inched to as close as one point. Meanwhile, the Jazz lost back homecourt advantage after winning Game 1 and failed to take advantage of Doncic’s absence. But the Slovenian Sensation was a full participant in practice and admitted he felt good, per Landon Thomas.

Mavericks vs. Jazz - Game Recap - April 23, 2022 - ESPN (ESPN)

SALT LAKE CITY -- — Rudy Gobert gave Utah the lead with an alley-oop dunk with 11.0 seconds left and the Jazz held off the Dallas Mavericks 100-99 on ...

Jazz: Mitchell was held to three baskets over the final three quarters. “It didn’t start with the free throws. “If you’re on the road in the playoffs and it comes down to the last play, you can’t ask for a better situation.” Mavericks: Finney-Smith scored all 11 of his points in the third quarter. The sheer volume of free throw attempts for Utah was unacceptable for Doncic. “The crowd felt it. In Game 4, Bogdanovic made his biggest impact on the defensive end. He was 3 of 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and 9 of 18 overall. We felt it.” Dallas erased the deficit in the third quarter behind hot outside shooting. Dallas made just two baskets through the first seven minutes of the fourth and shot 33% overall in quarter. You can’t just make a spurt and all of a sudden get it back.

Mavericks vs. Jazz predictions: Pick against the spread, over/under ... (DraftKings Nation)

We go over some of the best betting options for Saturday's matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz.

These are two of the slowest teams in the NBA in terms of possessions per game as the Mavericks rank dead last in pace, while the Jazz check in at No. 24 in that category. Physically present in AZ/CO/CT/IL/IN/IA/LA/MI/NH/NJ/NY/OR/PA/TN/VA/WV/WY only. Dallas could potentially get Doncic back on the floor for this contest, but the Jazz will cover this spread regardless. When you combine the motivation factor for the Jazz with the Mavericks’ three-point shooting in Game 3, there’s a lot of value in this contest hitting the under. The Jazz have their backs against the wall and cannot afford a 3-1 series deficit, and we’ll see their best effort in front of the home crowd where Utah played really well during the regular season. The Dallas Mavericks took control of their series against the Utah Jazz heading into Saturday’s Game 4 matchup with a 2-1 lead, and they’ve done it all without Luka Doncic. Jalen Brunson has been the star for the Mavericks, averaging 32.0 points per game in the first three games of this series as Dallas gets ready for Doncic’s return.
