Chelsea vs. Arsenal live score, updates, highlights & lineups from Premier League showdown (Sporting News)

FA Cup finalists Chelsea will look to return to winning ways at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as they seek to dent the hopes of a top-four Premier League finish for Arsenal. Thomas Tuchel's side reached the FA Cup showpiece on Sunday at Wembley as goals ...

On examination, this could be a high-scoring affair, with Chelsea keen to sew up Champions League qualification as soon as possible and Arsenal desperate to stay in the race. From being in a strong position suddenly they must win tonight simply to get back on level terms with fourth-placed Tottenham with both sides having six games to go. 70 minutes to KO: Not long now until the teams are announced but Arsenal will be wearing black armbands tonight. 60 minutes to KO: We have the Arsenal team for tonight. 100 minutes to KO: Arsenal must wish that they could press rewind and start April again. 40 minutes to KO: The teams will be out warming up shortly. 30 minutes to KO: The build-up on UK television is well under way with Sky Sports previewing the game. Chelsea have been the better side and did not deserve to be behind and they hit back immediately after Christensen's blunder had gifted Arsenal the lead. "There is nobody here" they sing in what seems to be a non-stop chant designed to mock their opponents. He leads their attacking statistics with 10 goals and eight assists and he has created 41 chances over the course of the season. Arsenal are looking a threat on the flanks when they do get the ball forward. Dream start for Arsenal and it is a real gift.

Eddie Nketiah double hands Arsenal vital win amid Chelsea chaos (The Guardian)

Eddie Nketiah scored twice to give Arsenal a crucial 4-2 win over Chelsea as they chase a place in the top four.

The left wing-back found Nketiah and, when Silva, Sarr and N’Golo Kanté failed to clear, the striker prodded the ball past Mendy. Arsenal appealed for a foul on White; in truth the defender was not strong enough. After 32 minutes Mount hounded Ben White off the ball and crossed for César Azpilicueta, who escaped Tavares and prodded the ball home. The goal summed up Chelsea’s difficulties without Thiago Silva and Rüdiger at the back. The problem, however, was that the opening period summed up the contradictions in this Arsenal team. Two goals from Eddie Nketiah, his first in the league this season, were enough for them to go level on points with Tottenham in fourth place with six games left.

Four-goal Arsenal grab huge win at Chelsea (DAZN News US)

It was a Premier League match that felt more like a prize fight at times, as Arsenal traded blows with Chelsea en route to a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge ...

The goal-filled first half gave way to a cagier closing 45 minutes, with Nketiah's second of the night coming just before the hour mark to put Arsenal up for good. The result puts Arsenal on equal footing with North London rivals Tottenham, with both teams sporting identical 18-3-11 records. Four of the game's six goals were scored in the opening 45 minutes, with Arsenal striking first via Eddie Nketiah in the 13th minute only to see Timo Werner pull the hosts level just four minutes later.

Nketiah proves Arteta wrong, gives Arsenal new life in top-four race ... (ESPN)

Both Eddie Nketiah and Romelu Lukaku are out of favour, yet the former fueled an unlikely Arsenal win as Chelsea's record signing's slump continued.

Cesar Azpilicueta showed a striker's touch to poke home Mason Mount's cross to send the teams in level at the break, but Arsenal made the most of more defensive uncertainty, not eradicated by Thiago Silva's half-time introduction for Christensen. But still, we had the same mistake against Real Madrid that cost us the next round of the Champions League, and this one cost us the next match. Perhaps Arteta's shift to a three-man defence surprised Tuchel somewhat but, not for the first time, it was individual errors that cost them dearly. Lukaku looked off the pace in attack and provided a reminder of what Chelsea lose in their pressing game when Kai Havertz is not leading the line. Contrast that with Lukaku, who gave a more incendiary interview in December that prompted Blues boss Thomas Tuchel to drop the Belgium international in a move from which his individual form has never recovered. Both are out of favour and may well be playing their football at different clubs next season after publicly voicing concerns about how they are being utilised, yet Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah -- the 22-year-old making only his 13th top-flight start -- outshone pedigree heavyweight Romelu Lukaku to breathe fresh life into the Gunners' top-four hopes with a brace in Wednesday's 4-2 win at Chelsea.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has claimed the Stamford Bridge pitch was partially to blame for Wednesday's 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.

But again, as I said before, when that happened to Bukayo it happened for a reason and he learned so much and matured so much which is why he's having the season he's having." "To say the pitch is difficult to play here it maybe sounds like an excuse, but it is a very, very difficult pitch that we have here. Eddie Nketiah's brace led Arsenal to a 4-2 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a crucial win for their top-four aspirations.

Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal) - Was this the birth of new Arsenal striking hero? Their vastly superior goal difference means the North London duo would have to finish a point clear of them, and of course there is one North London derby remaining in the season. Timo Werner's improved form is very welcome, but with the exception of Mason Mount he seems the only player playing at his best in the business end of the season. They were far from their best against Crystal Palace at the weekend and may be feeling the repercussions of the dramatic Champions League exit eight days ago. Chelsea are five points clear in third. The keeper was rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the woodwork. Saka was hauled down in the box by Azpilicueta, and stepped up himself to thump in goal number four. But within four minutes it was Nketiah’s turn to give the ball away, and Chelsea levelled. At the other end Nketiah bobbled a shot just wide after wonderful work from Saka just inside the area. Chelsea had had the better of the opening ten minutes. But two goals without reply after the break – another from former Chelsea academy striker Nketiah and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot - were enough to give us a much-needed victory.

Arsenal 4 - Chelsea 2: WHAT A WIN (The Short Fuse)

Don't let the helter-skelter, sloppy at times nature of the match fool you. Arsenal “deserved” to beat Chelsea. The Gunners were the better team. Per Scott ...

All the Arsenal players wanted a foul given for Werner’s challenge on Ben White that led to the second goal. Yes, Arsenal were sloppy in possession and gave the ball away, but a shot from there with a double deflection on an unsighted keeper? By the way, quite the composed finish on the breakaway from Eddie. Got a second on a broken play that I’m going to put down to his instincts, willingness to muck it up, and motor. The ball bounced kindly for Eddie on the second, too (but credit to him for his persistence on both). Bukayo Saka earned / sold the penalty call for the clincher. Y’all are probably tired of all the talk about bounces, calls, and luck, but Arsenal finally got a handful of all three, and look what happens. Miss me with the whining about the quality of the pitch and the bounces after the match. Looked much more fluid (which was a trend across the pitch for the Gunners — it felt like everybody was moving better and faster) and had more space in which to operate, which is a credit to how his teammates were playing around him and also Chelsea being strangely open and stretched at the back. But when the Arsenal attack is humming, there’s a good chance it’s because MØ is greasing the wheels, which is what he did on the evening. He kept on the ball, got a bounce, and scored. The cherry on top of his evening was beating Lukaku on the dribble, then nutmegging Marcos Alonso to start the move for the Arsenal second goal. Absolutely. And good for him for slotting the penalty away too, after his disappointment in the Euro final. It was more than Arsenal could have asked for from him, especially with his lack of match time for the club.

Richarlison finally forced a save from Kasper Schmeichel in the 67th minute but he wasted several good chances before redeeming himself with a scuffed shot in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the game to grab a point. Harvey Barnes put the visitors in front in the fifth minute, poking home a pass from James Maddison from close range as Everton struggled to find their feet, and the home side did not register a shot on target in the first half. At the bottom end of the table, Everton needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Richarlison to scrape a point at home to Leicester City and move four points clear of the relegation zone.

Awakened Arsenal push creaking Chelsea to the brink of disaster ... (Eurosport.com)

With a little help from the bouncing ball, Arsenal keep the race for fourth alive, while Chelsea's miserable home form continues.

A big twist of the neck, a firm— hang on. But let's pause for a moment and imagine the scene, as the referee strides back onto the pitch and tells the assembled teams that, yes, him there bit him there. They gently uncoupled from the title race over the winter, and have since slowly drifted back into the reach of the rest of the league; not a collapse, but a slow deflation. The opposition are there to turn up, provide a backdrop for each side to exercise against, and then go home. But the energy's the same: not yet a crisis, but all the conditions are there. The Premier League likes to pretend that anybody can beat anybody, but here at the sharp end of the season, we can see that the superclubs bend reality around themselves. With Manchester United debasing themselves on Tuesday evening, it's tempting to assume that the race for fourth is down to Spurs and Arsenal. But we do have to wonder if Chelsea are being dragged down into the scrap. they came out and they won the thing? Obviously the impending north London derby to end all north London derbies is going to make everybody at Premier League headquarters extremely happy, but it's going to make a fair few people in north London pretty upset. The first half was a mortal insult to the very concept of defending: the strikers worked hard to make goals happen and the defenders worked even harder. They came out and controlled the thing? Or, and this speaks for most of the nation, you're hoping that something daft will happen.

LIVE Transfer Talk: Arsenal, Spurs, Man United in race for ... (ESPN)

Youri Tielemans could be available for around £40m this summer and there's a top-four battle for his signature. Transfer Talk has the latest.

Juventus have also been in contact with the 29-year-old's representatives, with the Bianconeri looking to negotiate a deal that includes a lower salary than the £290,000-per-week he earns at Old Trafford. The Serie A club would like to compromise on Matic's deal that currently sees him earn a €7m yearly salary, though he is keen to work under Jose Mourinho again for a third time. - Barcelona have made a contract offer to Sergi Roberto, with hopes of extending the defender's deal at Camp Nou, reveals Sport. The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and after postponing talks in December, manager Xavi Hernandez has this week decided to resume negotiations. The Sweden international can be signed by Spurs this summer for a transfer fee off £24.9m, which is in addition to the £8.3m loan fee already paid. Phillips has started just 12 games for Leeds in the Premier League this season, having sustained injury problems throughout the campaign, though he has also remained on the radar of Manchester United too. Sources cautioned that Vela hasn't signed the deal just yet, but now the former Mexico international looks set to remain in Los Angeles through the end of the 2023 campaign, if not beyond. The Belgium international wants to play Champions League football, which ninth-placed Leicester won't be able to offer this season, but there are a host of interested clubs. It was during that campaign that he scored a league record 34 goals. Vela, 33, has been LAFC's marquee player since arriving ahead of the club's inaugural season in 2018. Nemanja Matic is open to moving to AS Roma, reveals Calciomercato. Matic revealed on Friday that he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season, bringing an end to his five-year spell at Old Trafford. Matic, who is under contract at United until 2023, has made 26 appearances across all competitions for the club this season. Paul Pogba is open to joining another Premier League club when his contract expires in the summer, according to Sky Sports. The Manchester United midfielder looks almost certain to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, and it is reported that he hasn't ruled out a potential move to domestic rivals. ESPN reported in early April that United were set to finalise the appointment of Ten Hag and the Dutchman has agreed a three-year deal to take over at Old Trafford, with the option of another year.

Mikel Arteta leaves celebration to Bukayo Saka and Arsenal players ... (CBSSports.com)

A late penalty from Bukayo Saka secured a 4-2 win for Arsenal away to Chelsea.

So it was that the first notable contribution of Thiago Silva, brought on to add some composure to a defense awkwardly anchored by Christensen, saw him execute a perfect slide tackle on Nketiah only for the ball to cannon around his other center backs before the Arsenal striker turned it past Mendy. It did, however, offer Arsenal's No. 7 with the perfect moment to move on from the most trying moment of his fledgling career, missing the decisive spot kick at the final of Euro 2020. When that happened to Bukayo, it happened for a reason. "With the rollercoaster we had out there, it was difficult to predict what could happen," Arteta said. Arsenal refused to turn the most favorable of breaks to their favor. Tuchel, meanwhile, so often a bundle of rage on the Stamford Bridge sideline, was serenity writ large. And yet his side have hurled back into the Champions League race and ended a three-game losing streak that was threatening to be terminal for their hopes of finishing fourth. They had diced with fire in their own box before Granit Xhaka nutmegged Alonso to get Arsenal fizzing up the pitch on the counter. From there, the goal was a picture, Martin Odegaard teeing up Emile Smith Rowe to roll the ball into the bottom right corner. Not for the first time in recent weeks, it was Thomas Tuchel's side that ended the game with more critical errors to its name. Even when his side was taking the lead, they seemed to be giving their manager a stress headache. The pitch is difficult to play here.

Stamford Bridge cheekily 'renamed' after Emile Smith Rowe's goal ... (Football.London)

Latest Arsenal news includes reaction to Wednesday night's 4-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge where Emile Smith Rowe was on the scoresheet once again.

"An incredible season for a No 10 of Arsenal means he needs to score 15 goals and give 10 assists," the Spaniard said last season. As a result, some Arsenal fans have cheekily decided to 'rename' Chelsea's home ground to reflect what the 21-year-old has done on his last two trips there. Although the taunting didn't stop there as it crossed over to social media during and after the final whistle.

There's a training boost for United, ahead of Saturday's game with the Gunners in north London.

Thomas Partey departed the pitch at Selhurst Park with a thigh problem, just before the Eagles scored their final goal of a 3-0 win, and both he and Tierney may have played for the last time this season. The trio were all pictured working at Carrington this morning (Thursday), and we expect interim manager Ralf Rangnick to provide a further update in his Friday press conference, which you can watch live on MUTV, ManUtd.com and in the United App. Meanwhile Varane has been absent for each of our last three games since the 1-1 draw with Leicester at the beginning of April.

But first up is Manchester United, who they welcome to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. However, one defender that looked assured was Brazilian star Gabriel, who produced a solid display - making a goal-line intervention to save his side on two separate occasions. However, they were able to steady the ship and produce an excellent display in west London, with Hale End academy graduates Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka scoring four goals between them to clinch all three points for the first time since last month's 1-0 victory against Aston Villa.
