The recall involves six models of GE-brand French Door Refrigerators with bottom freezers in fingerprint resistant stainless steel, which were manufactured from February 2020 through August 2021. The firm is contacting all known purchasers directly. GE Appliances is recalling around 155,000 of its refrigerators in the U.S. to repair a problem with the freezer drawer handles, which can detach when a consumer tries to open the drawer, posing a fall hazard.

GE Appliances announced in a statement Thursday that it has recalled six models of refrigerators due to 70 reports of handles detaching from freezer doors.

If the handle is loose, open the freezer by gripping the edge of the freezer door where the rubber sealing gasket meets the metal freezer door. The recalled models include: GFE26JYMKFFS, GFE26JYMNFFS, GNE27EYMKFFS, GNE27EYMNFFS, GNE27JYMKFFS, and GNE27JYMNFFS. They noted that the recall includes models with bottom freezers in fingerprint resistant stainless steel, which were manufactured from February 2020 through August 2021.
