3 reasons Sixers will sweep Raptors after another blowout in Game 2 (ClutchPoints)

The Sixers have absolutely dominated the Toronto Raptors so far. Here are 3 reasons they will complete the sweep....

They were seventh in the Association during the season with a 36.4% three-point clip but through the first two games, the Sixers are shooting nearly 50% from deep. It’s been a key part of their success so far in the series. The Cameroonian big man was limited to just 19 points in Game 1, but Tyrese Maxey went off and destroyed Toronto. Nevertheless, Embiid bounced back with authority on Monday night, despite the Raptors playing extremely physical defense on him. While the Raps did come out firing in Game 2, Philly quickly slowed them down and started to dominate, with Joel Embiid’s 31 points leading the way for Doc Rivers’ squad. With a 2-0 lead heading up North, the Sixers are in a prime position to keep rolling. The Philadelphia 76ers took a firm stranglehold on their first-round series with the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, blowing them out for the second straight game.

Through two games, that has not been the case for Toronto and Nurse is going to have to figure out ways to stop Philadelphia or this series will be quick. The adjustment I saw was we’re going to be super physical in the first 10 minutes of the game and we’re gonna be more aggressive trying to get to the basket and create pass and kick opportunities. In terms of how they’re guarding Philly, though it’s a bunch of guys in gaps against James Harden, and a bunch of guys in a dig position against Joel Embiid. Those guys are going to put up numbers, but what that has allowed the Sixers to do is just make target practice passes for target practice shots. Going into this series, I thought this was going to be one of the most fascinating first-round series. Heading into this first-round series between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors, a lot of people thought this would be an interesting drag-out type of series. Philadelphia won Game 1 by 20 points and led Game 2 by as many as 29 points on its way to an easy win on Monday to take a 2-0 series lead.

Danny Green appears revitalized at the perfect time for the Sixers (Liberty Ballers)

It happened with 4:20 left in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 112-97 Philadelphia win over Toronto: Danny Green dunked the basketball.

But I just made sure I got to the rim. So, when you go to the rim against them, you’ve got to make sure you get to the rim. But you can forgive his Sixers teammates if all they wanted to talk about was the dunk and to get off some jokes at the veteran’s expense. Health had been an issue for Green this season, dealing with hamstring and hip injuries, a COVID-19 health and safety protocols stint, and the reality of now being 34 years old in a profession where your window usually begins to close rapidly at such an age. He’s shooting the ball well, he’s playing well, his defense is back, and we need it.” But Danny Green does not dunk very often — only 71 times total (regular season and playoffs) across his 13-year NBA career — so his willingness to do so was a meaningful indicator for the Sixers in one important way: the three-time NBA champion is healthy.

Tobias Harris Talks Success Guarding 'Tough Matchup' Siakam (CalBearsMaven)

Through their first two playoff games, the Philadelphia 76ers have found success on both sides of the ball against the Toronto Raptors. During their Game 1.

While Siakam could make better adjustments for himself ahead of Game 3, so far, Harris has proven he's up for the challenge of guarding the All-Star. "Just really reading some of the things that he wants to do and make every look that he gets a tough look," Harris added. He’s a good player getting downhill as well, so just trying to beat him to the spot and making him take tough twos." He's gotten the best of Harris at times, making shots even when the Sixers veteran defended him well, but for the most part, Harris has kept the star big man in check through two games. As the veteran has proven he could not only create open looks for himself, he's also known to make tough shots with a defender in his face. In Game 1, he scored 24 points in 39 minutes, draining under ten of his 18 shots.

Joel Embiid, Sixers push back as Raptors spotlight free throws (NBC Sports)

Officiating and free throws have become major storylines for the Sixers' first-round series against the Raptors. The team hasn't minded talking and pushing ...

I was like, ‘Well, if you’re going to be physical, I’m going to come back with power and make you foul me — and make it more obvious, if the refs don’t want to call it.’ So I think it’s all about having self-awareness, and I think (the coaches) just do it because they have to, but they don’t actually believe in that. But I knew that was their game plan; I knew that was going to be their adjustment. He let it be known now that we’re not going to take the bullying, we’re not going to take the BS … making a stand and just getting physical out there, letting it be known we’re not going to be punked out here. Embiid said after the game he told Nurse to “stop bitching about the calls.” But I wanted to make sure I was the first one to bring the physicality.” That’s why I picked up that first early technical foul — because I felt like there was a missed call on the other end and I just wanted to make sure the refs let us know how physical they wanted the game to be. His pre-series rhetoric about trusting teammates and making the right plays out of double teams was surely sincere, but that’s not what the Sixers asked for in Game 2. “I have a lot of respect for all these coaches,” Embiid said. Predictably, the Sixers trading for James Harden enhanced a strength and further aggravated opponents. “He’s the most dominant player in this league to me physically, and that’s what we told him,” Sixers head coach Doc Rivers said. “ … We don’t know what adjustments they’re going to make in Game 3,” Green said, “but we know they’re complaining about the fouls, so there’s going to be a wave of change there, probably. We know the whistle may not be in our favor for a couple of games there.

Sixers: No Matisse Thybulle, no problem in Toronto (The Sixer Sense)

The Sixers now head to Toronto for Games 3 and 4 of their first round playoff series. No Matisse Thybulle, no problem.

Yes, a Sixers starter (for much of the regular season) will not be available, but if the last two games are any indication, and they should be, the Sixers do not need Thybulle to beat the Raptors. Now the team heads to Toronto and Thybulle will not be available, but he has not really been a factor in the first two games anyway. The Philadelphia 76ers now head to Toronto for Games 3 and 4 of their first-round playoff series against the Raptors. They will notably be without Matisse Thybulle as he cannot enter Canada due to his vaccination status.
