Baker Mayfield's time in Cleveland came to a sudden and ugly end this offseason. Unsurprisingly, he isn't happy about how it all happened.
"I really, truly, honestly have no regrets of my time in Cleveland of what I tried to give that place," Mayfield said. Mayfield's arrival in Cleveland signaled a significant change for the franchise, which had cycled through an incredible number of quarterbacks since returning to NFL action in 1999. "I would love to show up to somebody's cubicle and just boo the s--- out of them," Mayfield said. There's simply no other scenario in which the two parties proceed productively, regardless of how Stefanski and Browns general manager Andrew Berry position themselves publicly. Then again, few teams, if any, will be anxious to strike a deal with Cleveland, which has Watson and Mayfield on its roster and, thus, zero leverage in negotiations. Once seen as a Super Bowl contender, the Browns finished 8-9 and out of the playoffs, and Mayfield was painted as both a scapegoat and a massive question mark for the team moving forward. I know I have this one year to do as much as I possibly can. I have one year wherever I go, and it's my next interview. The future seemed bright for Cleveland and Mayfield, and after the 2019 season ended in massive disappointment, the quarterback ended up delivering the Browns both their first playoff appearance since the 2002 season and their first postseason victory since the 1994 season. He's had the same head coach for each of his last two campaigns (Kevin Stefanski), but has produced vastly different results in that span. The first-overall pick of the 2018 draft saw his first NFL action in Week 3 of his first season, replacing an injured Tyrod Taylor and leading the Browns to their first win in over a calendar year. "I feel disrespected," Mayfield said.

It sucked because I knew what I could be doing, but I physically wasn't in a state to do it." But then when it started hindering my play and going downhill, that's when I was like, oh s---. "When I wasn't performing on the field, that's when it really started to go downhill. "I really, truly, honestly have no regrets of my time in Cleveland of what I tried to give to that place," Mayfield said. After quarterbacking the Browns to their first playoff victory in 26 years in 2020, Mayfield struggled last season while playing through a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder. Though Mayfield remains on the Browns' roster, the team is actively looking to trade him.
The franchise traded for quarterback Deshaun Watson on March 18 and is expected to officially move on from Mayfield this offseason. The Watson deal was executed ...
I came in and had fun in the back half of the year. When one of the podcast's co-hosts explained he had become a Browns fan because of Mayfield, the quarterback said, “You might not have to do that anymore. “I really, truly honesty have no regrets of my time in Cleveland of what I tried to give that place," Mayfield said. I know what I need to do to be the best version of me and be able to lead an organization. If the Browns were to hang onto Mayfield for a while, he would not be contractually obligated to report to team headquarters until mandatory minicamp June 14-16. The next day, the Browns agreed to a trade with the Houston Texans for Watson, who received a record-setting contract from the Browns for five years and $230 million fully guaranteed. That was probably the most eye-opening thing when I first got into the league. Mayfield stressed on the podcast he's ready for his next opportunity. Jimmy Haslam said March 25 that Mayfield thought the comment did not come from Browns ownership. But on the whole, we had been pretty candid in terms of where we stood at the quarterback position really since very early in the offseason.” The news got out before I was able to make that call. OK. I got my taste of it because I’ve had four different head coaches in four years, a bunch of different coordinators.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported in March that the Browns were looking to get a first-round pick for Mayfield, but it has appeared to be too steep of an asking price after he had an injury-plagued 2021. The team has struggled to find a trade partner and could very well keep Mayfield on the roster for next season. Not soon after that, Mayfield requested a trade, and the day after that the team officially traded for Watson. Watson is facing 22 active civil lawsuits concerning sexual harassment and assault during massage therapy sessions. In March, Browns general manager Andrew Berry told reporters he regretted how the trade took place. During an interview on the YNK: you know what I mean?
Despite public support from team brass after an injury-riddled 2021 season, the former No. 1 overall pick is primed to be traded or released after the Browns' ...
"And true Clevelanders and true Browns fans know that. But even then, I have no idea." Mayfield confirmed Wednesday that he's lost faith in the organization and is prepared for his inevitable departure, telling the " Ya Never Know" podcast that he "100 percent" feels disrespected by the Browns. ... I'm just looking for stabilization right now." When pressed to predict his 2022 landing spot, he offered a few thoughts: "Oh man, if this would've been about a week and a half ago, I would've said Indianapolis. Um ... Seattle? I mean it'd probably be the most likely option. "I feel disrespected," he said.
As long as Seattle's quarterback situation is what it is and Mayfield remains available, speculation will linger.
But the Browns also have signed Jacoby Brissett as the apparent backup to Watson and more likely is that the Browns would eventually release Mayfield if no deal develops. He’ll have a new head coach and coordinator again in 2022. But the Browns might hope that maybe a QB-needy team would get more interested during the draft depending on how the draft itself unfolds. Then there’s the matter of what a team would have to give up to get him. I’ve had four different head coaches in four years. The Seahawks aren’t thought to want to give up much as they want to give Lock a legitimate shot at the starting job — meaning, they don’t want to invest so much in another QB that it basically makes him the starter ahead of Lock.
Mayfield says he has no clue where he'll end up this year, but that the Seattle Seahawks are "probably the most likely option."
I didn't start in the beginning I came in and got to have fun the back half of the year. I know what I need to do to be the best version of me and be able to lead an organization. "I’m ready for the next chapter, the next opportunity," Mayfield said. "That's why I can walk away from the whole situation feeling like I did it." The Browns reportedly denied Mayfield's request, and then soon after traded for Watson. Mayfield remains on the roster. He added that he is unsure where he will play next after the Browns traded for former Texans QB Deshaun Watson.

Things have obviously changed following the blockbuster acquisition of Watson, and while it hasn’t been explicitly stated, there’s no way the Browns enter next season with Mayfield still on the roster. OK. I got my taste of it because I’ve had four different head coaches in four years, a bunch of different coordinators. After being bumped to the trade block following the Browns’ acquisition of Deshaun Watson, Mayfield stated that he’s felt disrespected throughout the whole ordeal.
No one does at this point. He called Seattle “the most likely option,” and he acknowledged that the Colts would have been a possibility. (They traded for Matt ...
Ideally, then, he’ll go to a place where he can play and play well in 2022. That’s what I’m in the middle of right now.” The real question is whether Mayfield will cooperate with efforts to trade him or take the position that he should be cut, so that he can choose his next team.
Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield shared his side of things in a new podcast appearance. He believes he was lied to and much more.
Mayfield obviously appreciates the mentoring and advice he received from him The jokes about the arrest will either come off as playful and funny or minimizing his poor choices depending on your thoughts on his maturity His ‘manifest positivity’ seemed the opposite of some of his rabbit ears toward social media, fans and his Napoleon comment “Hitting the reset button everyone and awhile” seems like what he looking to have happen once the Browns started pursuing Deshaun Watson Very vulnerable to talk about his fear of public speaking in relation to his Heisman Trophy speech The connection to his family is clear throughout many of his stories The midsession ads were on-brand for the vibe of this podcast Interesting that he believes that players should decide/lead the culture “True Clevelanders, true Browns fans” comment feels like an attempt to draw lines but he was also just speaking freely and it didn’t seem preplanned in anyway “Control what I can control” is a great mindset if he is able to live it out That he had his people take his social media accounts and change the passwords is a strong statement of how important that was to him but interesting that he was able to Hinting that the coach that got the best out of him also didn’t understand the locker room dynamics is not a way to build trust in him as a future leader on another team. Confirmation bias will reign and strengthen what people already think Mayfield seems comfortable in who he is even if that is in things that make him uncomfortable From both sides, Not surprising, as it can be true for anyone, that Mayfield is impacted by what he reads on social media. It is unlikely that his appearance changed anyone’s opinion of him but, as noted in our initial piece, may impact how he is seen around the NFL: Given the concerns following his post to Cleveland and requesting a trade when Watson had already ruled out the Browns, something Joe Thomas called “overplaying his hand,” what he says will be scrutinized by fans, media and NFL teams.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield said plenty during his lengthy appearance on the YNK Podcast, including that he felt disrespected by the Browns.
But I know how to do it. I know how to do that. But I have to have their respect. But when I step on the field and I play as confident as I am and what I think I’m going to do on the field the next time I get a chance to do it, I’ll earn the respect of the guys who didn’t appreciate it from the beginning. The quarterback made it clear that his process isn’t going to be about trying to get guys to like him. I’m going to be myself,” Mayfield said.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield broke his silence since the team traded for Deshaun Watson. Mayfield said he feels disrespected and much more.
A co-host mentioned how they have to root for the Browns, Mayfield said maybe not much longer. True Cleveland-ers and Browns fans know.” Mayfield said he never wanted to leave Texas Tech, but they didn’t want to give him a scholarship, even after starting five games.
Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule and general manager Scott Fitterer have both expressed the same sentiment about finding a quarterback this offseason ...
“That’s why they’ve been opening up that cap space—to give them room so they can possibly trade for a quarterback if that’s what they want to do and I think that’s what they’re gonna end up doing.” “I do think one of the Panthers quarterbacks, when it’s all said and done, is going to be either Jimmy Garoppolo or Baker Mayfield,”Alexander said. He told hosts John Ellis and Billy Marshall that even despite all the hubbub leading up to the draft and its polarizing quarterback class, the Panthers will probably wind up with either one of two veteran passers who have been left on hold.
The backlash from Baker Mayfield's latest interview continues to mount after the Browns quarterback said he would "love" to boo fans at their jobs.
Indianapolis later signed veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, who was traded by the Falcons. Fans don’t owe you adoration.” That certainly doesn’t warrant hate speech or any form of violence, but shut up with the whining about fans booing. You are showcasing a skill to entertain. Mayfield appeared on the “Ya Never Know” podcast Wednesday and said, “I would love to show up to somebody’s cubicle and just boo the sh-t out of them and watch them crumble.” The backlash from Baker Mayfield’s latest interview continues to mount after the Browns quarterback said he would “love” to boo fans at their jobs — much like he was last season during a sluggish campaign in Cleveland.
However, his most viral quote was about the fans. Mayfield wondered out loud what it would be like to heckle fans at their own jobs. “I would love to show up at ...
“This past year was rough,” he said. Mayfield mentioned how grateful he was to have his degree and not necessarily need football, but that’s not the case for every player. “Guys that are paycheck-to-paycheck and are trying to earn a spot, that’s not an option.”
The Seattle Seahawks signed Geno Smith to return which could limit their interest in trading for Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield.
With Pete Carroll’s run-heavy offense, Mayfield may have found a soft landing spot to rehab his reputation after a difficult 2021 season. The Seahawks were reportedly looking into Mayfield as a possible solution at quarterback. His request came before the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson and the team seems ready to move on but have not done so.
It makes too much sense for the team and for the player. Which is why the Browns need to come up with a solution that results in Mayfield landing in another ...
Regardless of when the deal gets done, it won’t be easy for the Seahawks and Browns to find a middle ground. That’s where the Seahawks can squeeze Cleveland, holding out for a deal that is aimed not at getting value for Mayfield but at ensuring the Browns won’t have to deal with him in the AFC North, in 2022 or beyond. Which is why the Browns need to come up with a solution that results in Mayfield landing in another division in a different conference. He would be better than Mitchell Trubisky or Mason Rudolph, and coach Mike Tomlin quite possibly would be able to nudge Mayfield into becoming the best version of himself that he can be. Sure, the Browns could just cut Mayfield and let him sign with Seattle for $1.035 million. The Seahawks, if they want Mayfield, know the Browns are stuck.
