April 13, 2022 - The 2023 Kia Telluride's feature upgrades are welcome, but the styling changes seem to be controversial.
The Editorial department is independent of Cars.com’s advertising, sales and sponsored content departments. That and some traction control changes with the X-Pro’s 18-inch wheels and all-terrain tires isn’t much for off-roading. I’m less impressed with the X-Pro and new X-Line (in absentia) than I am with the features added for 2023.
Take one hugely popular three-row SUV, make it even better and add rugged-looking X-Line and X-Pro models, and where do you think demand will go?
A version of that left-turn feature that responds to cross traffic, oncoming traffic during a passing maneuver, and side-swipe events is newly available, as is a Highway Driving Assist 2, a more capable version of the standard HDA 1.5 system that can even handle automated lane changes. It also swaps the Pro's 18-inch wheels for 20s on normal tires and the X-Pro labeling for—you guessed it—X-Line badging. The X-Line gets the same gear except for the tires and the towing upgrade. That's right, Kia has found a way to make the already deeply appealing Telluride even more so for 2023, sharpening up the exterior styling and adding new X-Line and X-Pro trim levels for a little more rugged energy. The X-Pro also ups the Telluride's towing limit by 500 pounds to 5,500 total, adds a 110-volt household power outlet in its cargo hold, and gaining snappy X-Pro badging and labels on the front seats. Now entering its third model year, the Telluride is about to get easier to find and cheaper to acquire—nah, we're just messing with you.
The award-winning three-row SUV also sees slight styling tweaks.
The 2023 Telluride goes on sale this fall. Also retained are knobs for volume, tuning, and temperature, as well as a real shift lever. Both of the new trims are AWD exclusively. The standard speed-limit recognition system can automatically adjust the cruise control set speed when the speed limit changes. The rear appearance and lower body-side molding have also been tweaked. Following the lead of the redesigned 2023 Sportage, the Telluride adds a rugged-looking X-Pro trim level and also a less intense X-Line model.
Kia's largest SUV gets a nice technology upgrade, too.
Look for the updated Telluride to hit Kia dealers in the coming months. All 2023 Tellurides get restyled headlights and taillights, new bumpers, a new grille and different wheel designs. The X-Line has an 0.4-inch higher ride height, resulting in very slightly improved approach and departure angles, as well as new roof rails, unique 20-inch wheels, revised traction control settings and a towing mode that alters the transmission's shift logic and incorporates trailer sway control.
The Kia Telluride three-row midsize SUV has been an enormous success. It won numerous automotive awards, and consumers buy it in droves.
For the interior, the biggest change for the 2023 Telluride is the massive curved dual 12.3” display screens. However, the new Telluride X-Pro trim has a towing capacity of 5,500 pounds. The 2023 Kia Telluride has the same 3.8-liter V-6 engine as the 2022 Telluride. Mated to an eight-speed transmission, it generates an output of 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 Telluride still has a standard towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. However, Kia is not resting on its laurels for the Telluride, as the new 2023 Telluride made its debut at the New York Auto Show. For the 2023 model year, the Telluride has a new design, greater capabilities, and new technologies, as well as new off-road-focused X-Line and X-Pro trims. The 2023 Telluride will be available to buy at Kia dealerships throughout the United States.

A microphone system projects the driver's voice across the second and third rows, and a quiet mode shuts off the audio to the back seats. A 12.3-inch touchscreen display is standard, and a 12.3-inch gauge cluster is available. Kia redesigned the steering wheel, bringing the new Kia corporate logo and a friendly 2-spoke design. The new dashboard features an available dual 12.3-inch screen system and a new panel with controls for the HVAC system. For 2023, Kia updated the Telluride's cabin with new tech and a redesigned dashboard, but the SUV retains its family-friendly standard 8-passenger seating arrangement. Inside, the Telluride gets a new set of displays, one for the instrument panel and another for the infotainment display, both measuring 12.3 inches. Perhaps most obvious of all will be what Kia has done to the car's front end. The Kia Telluride is our favorite SUV in the crowded three-row segment.
