Memphis Grizzlies vs. Boston Celtics Game Preview (Grizzly Bear Blues)

While the Grizzlies have every reason to rest their main contributors, they simply may decide to go after history.

The Grizzlies have continued to improve their decision making and passing as a whole as the season as progressed, and every bit of that ability will be needed to find the best shot possible on each possession. However, for a team that seems to rewrite history every time they play, getting the franchise record for wins in a season seems like enough motivation to win. As a result, the Celtics will likely be treating this as a regular game, with a clear need to win. They will also get to witness a coaching matchup between two of the most legitimate candidates for Coach of the Year in Ime Udoka and Taylor Jenkins. It is not much of a debate that the Boston Celtics have basically been the NBA’s best defensive team since January. Even without Robert Williams, the Celtics lead the NBA in points allowed per game and 2PFG% allowed. For one, they will be attempting to set a new franchise record for regular season wins, surpassing the total of 56 set by the 2012-2013 Grizzles. And for how special this season has been so far for Memphis, if the roster wants to go all out, within reason, to achieve that record, they certainly should be given a chance to do so.

Celtics vs Grizzlies Odds, Spread & Picks (Sports Betting Dime)

Odds, analysis and best best bets for the Boston Celtics vs Memphis Grizzlies at 7pm ET on Sunday, Apr 10 in Memphis. Can the Grizzlies upset the odds?

Since the Grizzlies don’t have much to play for, Boston will likely come out with more of a sense of urgency to win the game and it should be able to do just that. Sunday’s game features teams in two different mindsets on the final day of the regular season. With some players still getting fully healthy and the Grizzlies already wrapping up the second seed, we could see some players sit out and rest to prepare for the playoffs. Going into Sunday, Boston is tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the third seed in the conference and just one game back of the second seed Milwaukee. On the other side, the Grizzlies rank fifth in the league in offensive rating and are third in points per game. Since the All-Star break, Memphis holds a record of 15-6 and are 13-4 over the last 17 contests.

However, the Celtics have hit supreme form having won seven of their last 10 outings and have too much firepower defensively to win this game. Coming into the season, the Boston Celtics were expected to make some serious noise in the East, with the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in their ranks. They are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league with their youthfulness and vigor that has seen them beat the Los Angeles Lakers three times already. Led by Ja Morant, the Grizzlies have been one of the surprise packages this season and are a major threat in the West. They currently possess the best defense in the league, though their offense is only ranked 14th. The Boston Celtics are having an incredible season so far despite there being rumors of potential unrest between the players.

Three things to watch for against the Memphis Grizzlies (CelticsBlog)

According to the Celtics injury report, everyone except for Robert Williams and Nik Stauskas is available for tonight's game, while the Grizzlies are yet to ...

The Grizzlies have a top-5 defense and rank 1st in rebounds per game, so the Celtics will need to be disciplined in their offensive execution tonight because second chance opportunities will be limited. The Grizzlies are a well-balanced roster with limited weaknesses, and in order to limit their effectiveness, the Celtics will need to limit the space in the mid-range that we usually see created by drop defense, while also ensuring they limit mismatch opportunities on the low-block. But, if you want to be an NBA champion, you have to beat the creme de la creme sooner or later, so I would expect to see Boston come out hot tonight, as they bid to show the world they’re genuine contenders in the upcoming playoffs. Both the Celtics and the Grizzlies are guaranteed a spot in the postseason, and neither is in danger of sliding into a play-in position. Sometimes, Boston will go supernova from deep, and other times, they can’t buy a bucket on the perimeter and need to attack the rim with reckless abandon, that’s just how it is. With Robert Williams healthy, the Celtics can combat the Grizzlies quite well, but if Jenkins decides to field a full-strength roster, playing a bunch of drop defense could be the Celtics' undoing.

The Celtics own tiebreakers over both Milwaukee and Philadelphia, and thus can climb to No. 2 with a win over the Grizzlies and a Bucks loss. Morant is averaging 27.6 points per game, but the Grizzlies' offense continued to hum in his absence. "The physicality, the speed, it's a great tune-up. While the Grizzlies had locked up their playoff position, coach Taylor Jenkins said that he viewed this as an opportunity to get Morant back into form for the playoffs. A Sixers win over a lowly Pistons team and a Milwaukee win combined with a Celtics loss relegates Boston to No. 4. "That right there alone speaks for itself," Smart said.

I like Boston winning this, but the Houdini is hesitant to lay the 5.5 points. Celtics vs. The over/under for the game has been placed at 227.5 points. It’s been a long journey, Boston Celtics fans. It isn’t likely Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins will be having his core group play two nights in a row, though. That wouldn’t be ideal considering the Toronto Raptors sit in the No. 5 slot, and visiting Canada could potentially mean some unvaccinated Celtics won’t be eligible to play.

Don’t expect to see many of the Memphis regulars on Sunday night. If the Celtics lose and the Philadelphia 76ers win, Boston drops to the fourth seed. If they win and the Bucks lose, Boston will be the second seed. They have the second-best record in the NBA, only trailing the Phoenix Suns. Boston fell to the Bucks their last time out, although they were without three of their five regular starters. Boston is still engaged in a tight playoff race for seeding, while the Grizzlies have locked up the second seed out West.

Ja Morant made his return and led the Grizzlies to a 141-114 blowout of the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. The All-Star guard scored 21 points and added nine assists. The Memphis Grizzlies have made notable lineup decisions ahead of their road game against the Boston Celtics.

Ahead of today’s game between the Grizzlies and Celtics, Memphis o fficially ruled out seven players due to either minor injury concerns or injury management. On the other hand, the Celtics do head into today’s matchup with a chance to finish the season as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. A victory for the Celtics against Memphis coupled with a Cleveland Cavaliers win over the Milwaukee Bucks would gift Boston the No. 2 seed. For the Memphis Grizzlies, they have already locked up the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Following their road matchup against the Boston Celtics, they will keep a close watch on the upcoming NBA play-in tournament to see on which team will end up being slotted in as the No. 7 seed.

Boston Celtics (50-31) at Memphis Grizzlies (56-25) Game #82 4/10 ... (CelticsBlog)

The Celtics face the Memphis Grizzlies in their final regular season game with playoff seeding on the line.

They need to stay focused on defense and play the kind of smothering lock down defense that has gotten them to the third seed in the East. The Celtics must stay focused and take care of the ball, focus on taking and making good shots, and focus on playing tough team defense. Will the Bucks go for the win or rest their players? They have to be the team that plays harder and that wants the game more. The Grizzlies play fast and play hard and the Celtics have to match that energy if they want to win this game. They have to go after every loose ball, every rebound and play harder than the Grizzlies on every possession. The Celtics are 5th in the league, grabbing 45.9 rebounds per game but the Grizzlies are 1st, with 49.2 rebounds per game. No players are listed as out for rest and so the Celtics can choose to go all out to win this game. They currently sit 1 game behind 2nd place Milwaukee and 3 games behind first place Miami. They are half a game ahead of 4th place Philadelphia. The Bucks game should be over by the time the Celtics play but the Sixers play at the same time as the Celtics. If the Bucks lose and the Celtics win, the Celtics will move up to 2nd place. As of Saturday night, the Celtics should mostly be healthy with just Robert Williams (knee) and Nick Stauskas (ankle) listed as out for this game. If the Bucks and Sixers both win but the Celtics lose, then the Celtics will slide all the way down to 4th place. The Grizzlies are locked into the 2nd seed in the West and so winning or losing this game doesn’t matter to their standings.
