Spy X Family Episode 1 Review (Game Rant)

The hotly anticipated adaptation of Tatsuya Endo's hit manga is finally here, and it has opened with a masterful first episode.

Spy x Family is one of the smartest anime premiering today, and it only takes one episode to see what all the hype is about. The Spy x Family manga is 61 missions in at this point, so once fans get hooked after episode one, there is a ton of great stuff on its way. The show does have a straight action element, and while it takes a while to arrive, it is delivered with the fast-paced impact of a John Wick scene. The spy and the psychic are a fantastic duo from their first moments, and the show has established a beautiful status quo. Spy x Family comes from the mind of Tatsuya Endo, previously best known for Gekka Bijin, and the manga has become a huge success. The first episode of an anime series is hugely important, even when there's a significant fan community awaiting its release.

Spy X Family Episode 1 Review: A Delightful Anime About Family ... (GameSpot)

He finds the necessary child at an orphanage, adopting young Anya, who happens to be telepathic--an ability she keeps to herself. In order to complete his ...

Any parent can tell you that when your child gets to a certain age, it feels like their kid can read your mind--I know from personal experience--so what makes this story work so well is that it truly is one of juggling your work and home life, and when you combine the two, things get exceptionally tricky. This is a show that gets better when you rewatch it as well, as you tend to pick up on more of those work/home life responsibilities. It never feels like an exposition dump--even when you're getting an exposition dump the first five minutes of the show. Getting intel on a target is a paint-by-numbers task for the super spy, but the fun in this show is seeing him change and learn to become a father--and the fact he knows this change is happening as well. Spy X Family is funny yet subtle, with a sense of humor that doesn't go over-the-top to relay a joke to the viewer. In order to complete his mission, Twilight must deal with enemies that want to hurt him, all while raising a telepathic child.

Spy x Family Crafts a Heartfelt Adaptation of Tatsuya Endo's ... (CBR)

The new show brings Tatsuya Endo's award-winning manga to life while retaining all of the laughs and warmth that made the original work so special.

If the rest of the season can keep up the level of quality displayed in the first episode, then anime fans are truly in for something special. It might even be the most anticipated anime debut of 2022. Even within its first episode, it's hard to not feel something when Loid and Anya celebrate their first victories together and show the first hints of a true father-daughter bond. Action isn't the focus of the series, but the first episode makes it clear that the team behind the show is more than capable of choreographing and animating an exciting, impactful brawl for the scenes that require Loid to get his hands dirty. Thankfully, the first episode of the anime lives up to those lofty expectations and may be one of the rare adaptations that manage to improve its source material. Spy x Family is probably the most hyped-up new show of anime's spring season.

Spy x Family: Series Premiere Review - IGN (IGN)

In under 30 minutes, it delivers an impressive premiere episode that introduces a lived-in world and fleshed-out characters you can't help but love, all while ...

Still, Spy x Family has one of the most impressive and memorable anime debuts in a while, one that promises a fun, exhilarating, wholesome, and also action-packed experience. And herein is the other ball thrown into the show's juggling act, because as fantastically wacky and funny as it is to watch Anya instantly see through her new dad's façade and his every lie like a more family-friendly version of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., it’s also a rather wholesome slice of life. Within minutes, this girl, Anya, becomes the standout character of the show, and a strong contender for best character of the spring 2022 season. Twilight, now going as Loid Forger, is completely deadpan and deadly serious about his work, a man with the charisma of Levi from Attack on Titan. And yet, he adopts a 6-year-old girl from a very shady orphanage and she’s his polar opposite – a funny, emotional child who also happens to be a telepath. It is here we meet a Westalis agent codenamed "Twilight," who is the best there is at what he does. Spy x Family is set in the middle of a cold war between two giant superpowers aptly named Westalis and Ostania, where espionage is the only thing keeping the world from armageddon.
