The new addition of live baseball games is a good experiment for Apple to see if it can garner enough interest to expand its sports offerings on Apple TV+ down the line, as others like Netflix keep avoiding live sports programming. Meanwhile, the dystopian workplace drama "Severance" turned into a sleeper hit this year, with critics raving and Apple ordering a second season. Apple picked up the best picture Oscar last month for "CODA" and several Emmys for "Ted Lasso," including outstanding comedy series. And while no one at Apple would complain if TV+ racked up Netflix-level subscribers, that's not the ultimate goal.

In 2020, WarnerMedia acquired a technology company called You.i that has helped power the refreshed versions of the HBO Max app for various platforms. “Apple users are very used to that ecosystem and how that ecosystem behaves,” Lyons said. The refreshed app includes a full “My Stuff” experience for Apple TV users that will allow customers to update their content queue with ease. “That decision was made back then, and I think [it was] the right one, because it got us out there and got us to scale quickly,” Lyons said in the interview. Apple TV+ live baseball games will be available to watch to customers in eight countries; the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and South Korea. In the US, TV+ will also host MLB Big Inning, a weeknightly live show featuring highlights and analysis across all games of the regular season.
