Here's What Dansby Swanson Said Before The Braves Played the ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Atlanta Braves took the field on Thursday evening to face off with the Cincinnati Reds for their first game of the 2022 MLB season.

"You have to understand and recognize the accomplishment and the achievement that we had last year," Swanson said. Their 2021 title was the first for the franchise since the 1995 season when they had Chipper Jones. "You have to be able to really compartmentalize; the banner, the ring ceremony, the Battery walk-through and then understand that you still have a job to do, and you still have to go out there and compete."

As has also become custom for defending championship teams in recent season openers, each Braves player sported white home uniforms which had gold piping around the letters and numbers. Reds at Braves, Game 1: Preview, Lineups, Pitching Matchups (Red Reporter)

Due to the owners locking out the players for months, this season is starting a little later with a slightly different schedule. Most notably to us Reds fans, ...

For me, I’m going to root for the players and hope they are as competitive as they can be given the limitations of the roster. I’m going to enjoy the twilight of Joey Votto’s career, watching Jonathan India continue to build off of his stellar 2021, Luis Castillo’s nasty change-up (for however much longer we get to enjoy that, and a hopefully healthy and resurgent Nick Senzel. It’s baseball time in Cincinnati, and that makes everything just a little bit better. He made 28 starts and put up a 3.05 ERA. He doesn’t strike out people at the rate that Mahle does but he is still incredibly effective at keeping guys off the bases. He made 33 starts and put up a 3.75 ERA, striking out 210 batters in the process and amassing a 4.8 bWAR. His opponent, Max Fried, was also fantastic in 2021. Most notably to us Reds fans, it’s only the third time since 1890 that the Reds are beginning the season on the road. That being said, it’s the baseball that brings us here so baseball we will watch.

That can't happen in the playoffs, can't happen in the regular season." "When you put on a Braves uniform in that organization, there's organizational rules. Ronald Acuña Jr. spoke in the Braves clubhouse re: his Instagram live comments. Whether or not that proves to be the right decision on the field is to be seen -- Olson did outhit Freeman last season and is several years younger -- but there's now reason to think clubhouse dynamics could have played a role in their decision-making process. Acuña added, "what should I miss about someone who's on another team?" Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. did an Instagram live interview on Wednesday night with Dominican journalist Yancen Pujols in which he addressed Freeman's departure.

The Braves hope Acuña can return in May. "I think he’s great for the game of baseball.” When Atlanta would not offer more than five years, the first baseman signed a $162 million, six-year deal with Los Angeles. But Freeman acknowledged during an interview Thursday with MLB Network that he did scold Acuña for his eye black and sunglasses. I’m not saying I’m a veteran today, but no one is going to come and take something off my face today.” You put your eye black, your sunglasses, your hat a little crooked.

The Atlanta Braves will wear gold-accented uniforms throughout their season-opening homestand to celebrate their '21 World Series title.

Our past and the number of world championships that we have won as a franchise (four) and how many seasons we have been in existence (151) -- those are hints of how some of this is reflected in the ring." Schiller: "We’ll have a video, (which is) already produced, that tells all the facts of the ring and explains it all in a visual form. The experience of attending an event starts far before the main event begins. The Braves will "unveil the World Series pennant before Thursday’s game," while championship rings "will be given to players during a ceremony at Saturday’s game" ( MARIETTA DAILY JOURNAL, 4/6). During her interview with SBJ’s Abe Madkour, she talks about making the most of and learning from every opportunity, handling tough negotiations, and how an obsession with the NBA shaped her career journey. The left sleeve of the jersey includes the Roman numeral “IV” in gold above a star, “signifying the franchise’s four World Series championships” ( ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 4/7). In Marietta, Hunter Riggall notes jerseys and caps from the Gold Collection "will be available for fans to purchase, as will a World Series-themed jewelry collection."
